GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR TUESDAY, JANUARY 17, 2017                            

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Any GHS student that needs a winter jacket can stop by the administration building.

Sign-ups for intramural soccer in February begin today, and go through Friday, January 27th. Games will be played on Mondays, Tuesdays and on one Thursday evening.  Both team registrations and individual registrations can be picked up from the athletic office, Mr. Wolf (room 2150) or from Mr. Lucas Kauffman, and should be returned to Mr. Wolf or Mr. Kauffman.  You must have a concussion form on file in order to participate.  If you have any questions, please speak with either of them.

The guidance office has received the Indiana Association of Educational Office Professionals Scholarship.  One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a business education student who intends to go into an office related career.  Stop in for an application.

 The Elkhart Area Career Center will hold its Annual Open House on Sunday from 1:30–3:30 p.m.  EACC administrators, teachers and NTHS students will be available to assist you in visiting all of the available programs offered at the Career Center as well as our Annex building.  Afterwards, enjoy a few of the refreshments made by our very own Culinary Arts students.  This open house is open to anyone interested in the Career Center and also gives prospective students and their parents a chance to discover the many opportunities available in career and technical education.  In addition to high school credits, all EACC programs offer options of college credit, industry certifications, job shadowing and/or internships with local companies.  In the event of bad weather, the open house will be rescheduled to Sunday, January 29th from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

All students are welcome to attend a student panel session on Thursday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.  This will be a time for students to ask questions and listen to real stories of college students and recent graduates of various colleges.  Snacks and drinks will be provided!

The Black and White Winter Dance will be on January 28th from 9:30-11:30 p.m. after the boys basketball game in Whiteman Gym.  Tickets will be sold during lunch for $7 or at the door for $8.  The dance is semi-formal, so please plan on dressing up.  If you are planning on bringing a student from another school you must get paperwork from Mrs. Wolfe in the main office and that needs to be turned in by Wednesday, January 25th.

Super Mileage Club will meet from 7:00-8:15 a.m. and 3:45-5:00 p.m. on January 17th and 24th.

Football off-season workouts are under way!  If you are planning on playing football in the fall and are not in a winter sport, you are expected to be there.  We will be done before 5:00 p.m.  Now is the time when you make your biggest gains.  Brick by Brick!

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

If you are a junior or senior and are interested in planning Prom there will be a meeting on Tuesday, January 24th during the 2nd session of SRT in room 8080.

There will be a final girls tennis call out meeting on Tuesday, January 24th during the 2nd session SRT in the main gym.  Any girls interested in trying out are expected to attend.  Contact Coach Love with any questions.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The varsity boys basketball team lost at home to Warsaw, 57-31.  The team was led by Will Line in scoring with nine and Mitchell Walters with six.  CJ Detweiler and Michael Pinarksi led in rebounding with four each.

The JV boys basketball team lost against Warsaw 23-17 to go 1-2 in conference play.  They were led by Porter Revoir with six and Austin Cain and Domonick Swinney with four each.  Revoir led on the boards with seven.

The Goshen Lady RedHawk swimmers and divers finished 5th place this weekend at the NLC Championships. Finishers were: 200 Medley Relay (Jenea Born, Makala Saeger, Zoe Eichorn, Ellie Zehr) 4th, 200 Freestyle (Anna Paetkau) 12th (Rachel Cox) 13th (Sydney Penner) 16th, 200 Individual Medley (Makala Saeger) 11th (Abby Hetler) 12th, 50 Freestyle (Zoe Eichorn) 7th (Karla Hernandez-Walton) 16th, Diving (Karla Hernandez-Walton) 9th (Jacinda Moore) 16th, 100 Butterfly (Jenea Born) 4th (Anna Paetkau) 9th (Carolina Olivo) 14th, 100 Freestyle (Zoe Eichorn) 6th (Rachel Cox) 13th, 500 Freestyle (Ellie Zehr) 9th (Abby Hetler) 12th, 200 Freestyle Relay (Zoe Eichorn, Anna Paetkau, Abby Hetler, Jenea Born) 4th, 100 Back Stroke (Jenea Born) 12th (Ellie Zehr) 14th (Ellie Kercher) 16th, 100 Breast Stroke (Makala Saeger) 4th, 400 Freestyle Relay (Anna Paetkau, Rachel Cox, Ellie Zehr, Abby Hetler) 5th. Overall the girls had 11 season best times! Zoe Eichorn was named All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The Lady RedHawks fought their hearts out on the road but came up short vs. conference foe Warsaw 34-25.  The team was led by seniors Aylissa Trosper and Ashton Ellis with six points, and senior Jordan Nemeth and junior Jill Kissinger each had four points.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The boys JV and varsity basketball teams will host Jimtown.  JV plays at 6:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:30 p.m.

The boys freshman basketball team will host East Noble at 6:00 p.m.

The boys and girls JV & varsity swim and dive teams will host East Noble, Westview and New Prairie at 6:00 p.m.

The girls JV and varsity basketball teams will play at Mishawaka.  JV plays at 6:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:30 p.m.
