Yesterday we visited the GHS men’s choir. They w Yesterday we visited the GHS men’s choir. They warmed up by giving each other shoulder massages while everyone arrived. (They meet before school starts.) They were practicing music for the winter choir concert, which prompts me to say that you should go to the concert on Dec. 13!

Edward Jones students of the fall season: Each in- Edward Jones students of the fall season: Each in-season coach nominated three senior athletes with at least a 3.0 GPA and who have made a significant contribution to their teams this fall. The three male and three female winners for the fall season were voted on by all the head coaches. At the end of the school year, GHS will still select one male and one female athlete to each receive a $1,000 scholarship from Edward Jones! Today, GHS students in a pathway spent the day at Today, GHS students in a pathway spent the day at GJH explaining to 8th graders the different GHS pathways available. GHS school counselor Jesselle Schrock also gave an overview of the following pathways, Manufacturing, Digital Design, Early Childhood, Welding, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, and Radio & TV. The GHS students explained their pathways, talked about jobs and professions a person could get in that field, and shared what classes are required before entering a pathway. Mrs. Schrock explained to 8th graders that they will not schedule anything in a pathway for their freshman year, but that the first year of high school is still particularly important. “During your freshman year, you want to do things right, like having good attendance, good grades, and no discipline issues. Spaces in internships and apprenticeships or at career centers are limited, so you want to demonstrate that you are a responsible student. Later on, when employers look at groups of students to decide which student to select, they will look for someone who is dependable and invested in their education.” Mrs. Schrock added, “At GHS, you have opportunities to test-drive careers. If you find something you love, that is excellent. If you try something and realize you don’t care for it, at least you haven’t spent money on college or a trade school for that career. You can still pivot and try something else.” GCS is generating more information for students and parents regarding the GHS pathways and will get that information to families soon.
