GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2016

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

All wrestlers please report to the locker room on your way to the pep session.

All sophomore student-athletes from any season are encouraged to participate in the Be the Best workshop on January 12th in the auditorium during 2nd period and SRT.  Please sign up before break at the athletic office or with Mr. Kissinger on Thursdays when he is on lunch duty.  This is great morning of activities with fellow student-athletes on current events in sports, leadership activities, integrity and bullying/hazing prevention.  Excuses vs. Excellence?  Choose excellence by participating!

Starting TODAY, students and staff will no longer be able to deposit money in the cafeteria at breakfast.  Please see the bookkeeper to deposit your money.  Mrs. Haney can accept cash, check or debit/credit cards. You can also deposit money or check your balance at myschoolbucks.com. After Spring Break, no money will be accepted in the cafeteria.  You will need money on your account to make ANY purchases.

The Goshen Public Library doesn’t just lend books! They also offer FREE activities for young adults. Stop in on Thursdays after school from 4-6:00 p.m. to hang out, study, find an independent reading book, play a board game, color or just chillax at teen café! And, of course, we’ll also have hot chocolate and coffee. We have two NEW clubs starting this month. Manga Club meets first and third Wednesdays from 4-5:00 p.m. and Writing Club meets fourth Wednesdays from 4-6:00 p.m. in the teen area. Our regular monthly programming also begins again on Thursday, January 21st with our Pages & Popcorn Club from 5:30-8:00 p.m. We’ll talk about the book Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and watch the movie. You can still sign up to get a free copy of the book. The Crafty Bandits will meet up on Monday, January 25th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. where we’ll have snacks and learn some simple sewing by turning old sweaters into mittens. Finally, our regular programming will conclude this month with Nerd’s Night Out Fandom Freak Out Party. Bring your friends for tons of activities celebrating your favorite fandoms, plus pizza and prizes. MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Key Club will meet in the cafeteria during the 2nd session of SRT on Thursday.  Members who ordered a t-shirt should bring $9 cash or check to the meeting.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The varsity Lady Redskins lost to the Raiders in a conference matchup on 12/18 despite shooting 77% from the free throw line. The Redskins were led in scoring by Kyrie Potter with 12 points. Olivia Love added ten rebounds. The final score was 54-34.

The varsity Lady Redskins defended their home court and 90+ years of tradition by closing out the storied Redskin era with a thrilling 47-46 victory over FW Carroll on 12/19. A slow start, trailing 12-9 after the 1st quarter and 27-18 at halftime, almost spelled doom for the Lady Redskins. An inspired 3rd quarter, in which Goshen outscored Carroll 18-4 however, propelled the Lady Redskins for the win. With a 2-point lead and only five seconds to go, senior Kyrie Potter calmly sank two free throws to ensure the victory. Those clutch free throws would be needed as Carroll sank a 3 pointer at the buzzer to close out the scoring…with a 1 point Redskin victory! Goshen was led by Tahya Bruce (11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists), Kyrie Potter (10 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals), Aylissa Trosper (8 points, 7 rebounds) and Olivia Love (6 points, 9 rebounds).

The JV Lady Redskins suffered a 45-20 defeat at the hands of a high-powered FW Carroll JV team on 12/19. Leading Goshen was Jordan Nemeth with eight points.

The Lady Redskins C team lost to the Lady Chargers on 12/20, 19-30. Leading scorers were Jazmin Vargas with eight points and Kasey Rodriguez with six points.

The JV boys basketball team lost at home to South Bend Adams on 12/21 in the first round of the NIC-NLC JV tourney, 55-39. Simon Myers led Goshen with ten points and six rebounds. Philip Wertz added eight points.

The JV Boys Basketball team defeated Northridge 35-28 on 12/21 in the consolation game of the NIC-NLC tourney. Michael Pinarski led the 5-2 Skins with eight points and Clayton Litwiller added seven. Domonick Swinney led Goshen with five rebounds.

The varsity boys basketball team lost in the NIC-NLC Shootout on 12/21 against South Bend St. Joseph, 61-48. The Redskins were led in scoring by CJ Detweiler who tallied 17 points and Colton Potter who added 13.

The varsity boys basketball team lost at South Bend Adams 48-33 on 12/23. CJ Detweiler led the Redskins with nine points and Mitchell Walters added six points and eight rebounds.

The Lady RedHawks began a new era with a win over New Haven in the Hacienda Holiday Tournament on Saturday with a score of 72-33. The RedHawks were led in a balanced offensive effort by Jill Kissinger (11 points), Tahya Bruce (12 points), Alyssa Hershberger (11 points) and Olivia Love (14 points). Kyrie Potter led the team in rebounds with seven. Ashton Ellis contributed ten assists for the RedHawks.

The Goshen RedHawks beat Clay Colonials to win the Hacienda Varsity Holiday Championship Saturday night. The RedHawks jumped out to a 17-6 lead at the end of the first quarter before going into halftime leading 26-18. They came out strong in the second half to finish the game and remain undefeated as RedHawks. They were led offensively by Aylissa Trosper with 21 points, 6-8 from the free throw line. Kyrie Potter had 13 points to go with eight rebounds. Olivia Love and Tahya Bruce contributed 11 and 10 points respectively. Ashton Ellis had eight assists for the game.

The JV girls basketball team earned the first win ever as RedHawks Saturday morning, defeating New Haven 44-12. The RedHawks had a balanced offensive attack. The leading scorers for the were Breanna Boocher and Kassandra Rodriguez with eight points each. Josie Walters had seven steals for the game.

The JV Lady RedHawks garnered the first championship of the new era Saturday afternoon against the Dekalb Lady Barons. The RedHawks got into foul trouble early, but were able to recover and have an entire team contribution on their way to winning. They were led in scoring by Maggie Gallagher with ten points and Jordan Nemeth with eight points. Kassandra Rodriguez added six rebounds and four steals while Josie Walters had four steals and three assists.
