Career and Technical Education

Goshen High School knows that not all students are college-bound, but prefer to enter the workforce directly out of high school.  Indiana State legislation requires all students to have a Diploma, Employability Skills, and a Post-Secondary Competency upon graduation.  What this means is that students leaving high school need to be prepared for either entering college or having job-ready skills.  Students at Goshen High School have many different opportunities to excel and find their path to enter high-paying and technical jobs upon graduation.

Today’s cutting-edge, rigorous, and relevant Career and Technical Education (CTE) prepares youth and adults for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, in-demand careers. The mission of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Indiana is to ensure an education system of high quality and equity for the academic achievement and career preparation of all Indiana students. Students in Indiana’s secondary CTE programs will gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for success in postsecondary education and economically viable career opportunities.

Yes, Goshen High School sends students every year to the Elkhart Area Career Center, the Wawasee Pathways Career Center, and Fairfield High School for their Cosmetology program. Those who attend these locations spend part of their day at GHS and then travel to EACC, Pathways, or Fairfield. Bus transportation is available for students that need it.

Students enrolled in these programs are still Goshen High School students and will graduate with their GHS class.

Elkhart Career Center
In 1971, Goshen Community Schools began partnering with the Elkhart Area Career Center to offer career and technical education to Goshen High School juniors and seniors. This partnership continues today.

The Elkhart Area Career Center offers hands-on training in twenty-two skilled occupations, ranging from business technology to welding. For students planning post-secondary education, most of these programs have articulation and advanced credit agreements with various colleges and universities in Indiana and Michigan. A number of classes also offer industry certification and/or licensing.

Wawasee Career Center (Pathways)
Pathways is a Cooperative between Whitley County Consolidated Schools, Wawasee Community Schools, and Fairfield Community Schools working together to prepare our students with the skills necessary to become successful in college or career.

Fairfield High School
FHS offers students training and certification in Cosmetology starting their Junior year.

Goshen High School works with local employers to provide our students with apprenticeships and internships.  Students who participate in this program spend part of their day at GHS and then travel to their place of employment.  Students will need to provide their own transportation and expect to work from 6-15 hours a week. The following are local employers that have employed our students over the years:
  • The City of Goshen
  • Beacon
  • Goshen Hospital
  • Interra
  • OSMC
  • New Horizons Aviation
  • Weiland Designs
  • Boling Vision
  • Lippert Components
  • Goshen Community Schools
