Traffic/Construction Update
From the City of Goshen offices: Construction updates
The following roads/railroad crossings will be closed for construction:
Cottage avenue closed Aug. 14
HRP construction will close down Cottage Avenue at the railroad tracks, to prepare for the installation of a water main under the railroad crossing.
This closure will be similar to the previous closures on Cottage Avenue, with access to LaCasa and the Work Release Center being from the north (Crescent and Bridge streets). Cottage Avenue will be closed for about six to eight weeks during this construction period.
Railroad Crossing Improvement Scheduled on U.S. 33 in City of Goshen (from INDOT)
The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that U.S. 33, between 9th and 10th streets in the City of Goshen, is scheduled to close at 6 a.m. on the morning of Monday, August 21, weather permitting. The closure will allow Norfolk Southern to rebuild the railroad crossing.
Drivers are reminded to follow the posted detour signage. The work, which will improve the driving surface for motorists, is anticipated to be completed by 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, weather permitting.
From Goshen Community Schools:
Goshen students, staff, and parents, please take special notice of the railroad crossing to be closed Monday, August 21. This is the crossing by Penguin Point. The last time that particular crossing was closed, there was a significant increase in the number of vehicles using the streets around GHS and the GCS Administration Center. At times, cars and trucks drove down 10th street the wrong way, and did not stop at the corner of 10th Street and Purl Street because there is no stop sign at that intersection (if vehicles are going south/the wrong way). Goshen Schools is working with the city, INDOT, and Norfolk Southern to post proper, temporary signage to route traffic in safe patterns. However, please use extra caution during the railroad closure. Walk, bike, and drive defensively; we want you to be safe!
