Marine Biology Returns to the Keys
The annual Marine Biology Spring Break trip makes a comeback this year, the first since the Pandemic in 2020. A group of 30 students and 21 staff and chaperones will travel to Layton, Florida on March 29 to take part in the 46th Goshen High School trip. Students on the trip are required to take classes prior to the trip and earn high school credit. During their stay in the Keys, students will learn about the abundant marine life and grass beds, snorkel the John Pennekamp Reef, and have many other educational and rewarding experiences. The group is led by GHS science teacher Chris Weaver and former teacher Carl Weaver.
Prior to the trip, the marine biology program and Goshen High School received a generous donation of a pontoon and trailer by Smoker Craft. This is the second time Smoker Craft has donated a pontoon to Goshen Schools. Michelle Kercher, Director of the Goshen Schools Foundation, and Bill Rieth, President of the Foundation have been in discussions this year with Smoker Craft about a possible donation. This week, the foundation and GCS took possession of the boat, which was a special build, constructed to meet the needs of the GHS Marine Biology program.
