GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 25, 2015

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

REMINDER: Students, you are expected to stay in the commons area each morning until 7:45 a.m. Mondays you need to stay in the commons until 8:45 a.m.

Students, you are reminded NOT to park in the administration building parking lot. They have trainings, conferences, etc. that they need that space for. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Lucas Kauffman, or in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

Super Mileage Club Purpose: To develop super mileage cars that will travel as far as possible on one gallon of fuel.  Members will assist Engineering Design and Development students with the design and construction of vehicles and assist with other technology and maintenance. The first meeting is on September 8th from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in room 8010. See Mr. Holsopple for further details.

The Apex Lab in room 1060 is open from 7:15-8:15 a.m. Tuesday-Friday and 3:45-5:45 p.m. Monday-Thursday for anyone needing to finish up work from this summer or get ahead this fall. Contact Mr. Wolf for more information. If your Apex summer course is not completed by this Friday your incomplete will turn into a F.

Line 1 and 2 in the cafeteria will now be cashless.  This means you will need money on your account to purchase food in that line.  You will be able to deposit money in the mornings or online. Starting Monday, line three will also be cashless.

Rule the Road  This is a free teen driving event complete with a road course with instructors and a pizza lunch on September 10th from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Dept.  This is open to students with a learner’s permit, or in their first year of having their license.  You can pick up a form packet in the main office which must be turned in to Mrs. Stealy with a copy of your learner’s permit or driver’s license by tomorrow.

Attention all students: Herff Jones will be here on Thursday, September 3rd during lunch and after school until 6:00 p.m. for class ring orders. This is your last chance to get your custom “Redskin” design on your ring!

All GHS students and especially GHS student-athletes not in a fall sport are encouraged to take place in off-season workouts.  In addition to open fields/open gyms that your head coaches may be offering, the GHS athletic department is offering sports performance, under the supervision and expertise of Mr. Jim Whittaker, every Monday and Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. starting after Labor Day. All students are welcome but you must have a current physical exam on file in the athletic office as well as the state mandated concussion and cardiac arrest awareness form. The first session will be Wednesday, September 9th and all should meet at the track!  Excellence vs. Excuses, who is winning?

All Together with Pride members who ordered a Summer Program t-shirt please stop by Mr. ME’s classroom, room 2130, to pay and pick up your shirt. The cost for a shirt is $8.

Please join the Goshen Band Boosters for Fiesta Night on Saturday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) in the cafeteria. The cost is $8/person or $5/child for ages 5 and under. Children’s tickets are only available at the door. Options are plate A: two chicken tostadas, rice and beans or plate B: steak fajitas, rice and beans. Both options also include chips and salsa, a drink and dessert. La Banda Crimsonera will also be there performing mariachi music.

Spin the Wheel of Surprises at the Redskin Branch this Friday! Everyone who spins the wheel will receive a prize. We hope to see you at the Redskin Branch this Friday!

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Do you like planning dances, coming up with themes for homecoming, and doing fundraisers? Are you creative and have lots of fun ideas? Why don’t you think about joining student council? We will meet for the first time Thursday during the 2nd session of SRT in the auditorium.  If you are interested in joining please contact Mrs. Pierce in the guidance office!

There will be a call out meeting for all girls not in a fall sport who plan to play basketball this winter.  The meeting will take place during the 2nd session of SRT today on the balcony of the main gym. If you cannot attend this meeting please make sure you stop by to see Coach Krebs to pick up information.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

Both boys varsity and JV tennis teams won their match against Elkhart Central, but not without adversity. Hudson Kay at 1 Singles overcame a 1-4 deficit in the 2nd set to win in straights. The 2 doubles pair of Hugh Birky and Jacob Grewe overcame a 1-3 0-40 deficit after being down a set to come back and win the 2nd in a tiebreaker and won the 3rd set 6-1. The JV won 7-4 including wins by Wes Beck, Bobby Sessa, Drake Crowder and Nathanael Wertz.

The JV football team lost to Fairfield last night 0-6.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The boys JV and varsity soccer teams will host Westview. JV plays at 5:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 6:45 p.m.

The girls JV and varsity golf teams will compete against Northridge and Warsaw at Meadow Valley in Middlebury starting at 5:00 p.m.

The girls freshman volleyball team will travel to Concord to compete against Wawasee and Concord at 5:30 p.m.

The girls JV and varsity volleyball teams will host South Bend Riley. JV plays at 6:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:00 p.m.
