GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2015

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

REMINDER: Students, you are expected to stay in the commons area each morning until 7:45 a.m. Mondays you need to stay in the commons until 8:45 a.m.

Students, you are reminded NOT to park in the administration building parking lot. They have trainings, conferences, etc. that they need that space for. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Lucas Kauffman, or in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

Super Mileage Club Purpose: To develop super mileage cars that will travel as far as possible on one gallon of fuel.  Members will assist Engineering Design and Development students with the design and construction of vehicles and assist with other technology and maintenance. The first meeting is on September 8th from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in room 8010. See Mr. Holsopple for further details.

The Apex Lab in room 1060 is open from 7:15-8:15 a.m. Tuesday-Friday and 3:45-5:45 p.m. Monday-Thursday for anyone needing to finish up work from this summer or get ahead this fall. Contact Mr. Wolf for more information. If your Apex summer course is not completed by this Friday your incomplete will turn into a F.

Line 1 and 2 in the cafeteria will now be cashless.  This means you will need money on your account to purchase food in that line.  You will be able to deposit money in the mornings or online. Starting Monday, line three will also be cashless. Also, there is a menu change for Friday. Line 1 will have cheeseburgers instead of sub sandwiches.

Rule the Road  This is a free teen driving event complete with a road course with instructors and a pizza lunch on September 10th from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Dept.  This is open to students with a learner’s permit, or in their first year of having their license.  You can pick up a form packet in the main office which must be turned in to Mrs. Stealy with a copy of your learner’s permit or driver’s license by TODAY.

Attention all students: Herff Jones will be here on Thursday, September 3rd during lunch and after school until 6:00 p.m. for class ring orders. This is your last chance to get your custom “Redskin” design on your ring!

All GHS students and especially GHS student-athletes not in a fall sport are encouraged to take place in off-season workouts.  In addition to open fields/open gyms that your head coaches may be offering, the GHS athletic department is offering sports performance, under the supervision and expertise of Mr. Jim Whittaker, every Monday and Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. starting after Labor Day. All students are welcome but you must have a current physical exam on file in the athletic office as well as the state mandated concussion and cardiac arrest awareness form. The first session will be Wednesday, September 9th and all should meet at the track!  Excellence vs. Excuses, who is winning?

Please join the Goshen Band Boosters for Fiesta Night on Saturday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) in the cafeteria. The cost is $8/person or $5/child for ages 5 and under. Children’s tickets are only available at the door. Options are plate A: two chicken tostadas, rice and beans or plate B: steak fajitas, rice and beans. Both options also include chips and salsa, a drink and dessert. La Banda Crimsonera will also be there performing mariachi music.

Spin the Wheel of Surprises at the Redskin Branch this Friday! Everyone who spins the wheel will receive a prize. We hope to see you at the Redskin Branch this Friday!

The guidance office has now received the Horatio Alger Scholarship.  Please stop in for information.

This Friday’s theme at the football game against Memorial is Toga! TOGA TOGA TOGA! We will also be offering five Redzone bucks for the best dressed! Come and show us your best! Again, remember to be school appropriate!

Any boy interested in playing basketball this year and is not involved in a fall sport should stop and see Coach Bechtel, or any assistant coach (Wohlford, Davis, McLaughlin), to pick up a fall workout schedule.  Fall workout schedules are also located at www.goshenbasketball under the Schedules tab.  Workouts will begin after Labor Day.  All participants will need an IHSAA physical before participating.  If you need that paperwork stop by the athletic office.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Do you like planning dances, coming up with themes for homecoming, and doing fundraisers? Are you creative and have lots of fun ideas? Why don’t you think about joining student council? We will meet for the first time tomorrow during the 2nd session of SRT in the auditorium.  If you are interested in joining please contact Mrs. Pierce in the guidance office!

Would you be interested in joining Fusion Latina or Juntos Con Orgullo this year? Please plan on meeting this Thursday, August 27th during the 2nd Session of SRT in Whiteman Gym. If you are interested in joining and can’t attend the meeting, please contact Mr. Medina though email or Ms. Tovar in the main office! ¿Te gustaría ser parte del Club Fusion Latina o Juntos Con Orgullo este año? Entonces ven a nuestra junta el jueves, 27 de agosto durante la 2a sesión de SRT en el gimnasio Whiterman Gym. Attention GHS Spellers!  There will be a Spell Bowl call-out meeting during the 2nd session of SRT on Thursday, Sept. 3rd.  Meet in Lisa Caskey’s room, 3130.  Spell Bowl is open to any GHS student.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The girls varsity golf team lost to Northridge and Warsaw. Sara Rodgers shot 48 and Claire Palczynski 50.

The JV boys soccer team defeated Westview 4-0. Despite excellent goalkeeping from Westview, Goshen was able to find the back of the net four times. Goal scorers were Adolfo Villegas, Junior Argueta, Eduardo Garcia and Bryan Olvera. Assists: Ciro Agular (two) and Franco Hernandez (two).

The varsity boys soccer team defeated Westview 3-0. Westview played a tenacious defense and got some solid goal keeping, but a relentless attack from the Redskins bore fruit by way of three fantastic finishes. Goal scorers were Sebastian Flores and Juan Castaneda (twice). Assists were Alex Martinez, Chris Garcia and Lucas Bontreger. Goshen had 13 shots on goal and Westview had 2.

The girls volleyball C team lost to Concord 0-2 and Warsaw 0-2.

The girls varsity volleyball team defeated South Bend Riley 3-0.

The girls JV volleyball team defeated South Bend Riley 2-0.
