GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2015

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

STUDENTS:  You are not allowed to have lunch delivered to you without the prior approval of an administrator.  You either need to bring your lunch or eat in the cafeteria.  Thank you!

If you had free/reduced lunch last year and did not submit an application to renew it this year, it’s due by TOMORROW or you will need to make sure that you have money with you on Monday. If you need a form or want to check to see if you’ve already taken care of this please see Mrs. Haney in the bookkeeper’s office.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Lucas Kauffman, or in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

Line 1, 2 and 3 in the cafeteria will now be cashless.  This means you will need money on your account to purchase food in that line.  You will be able to deposit money in the mornings or online at myschoolbucks.com. This is a free service.

Rule the Road  This is a free teen driving event complete with a road course with instructors and a pizza lunch on October 10th (note the date change) from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Dept.  This is open to students with a learner’s permit, or in their first year of having their license.  You can pick up a form packet in the main office which must be turned in to Mrs. Stealy with a copy of your learner’s permit or driver’s license by September 28th.

Please come out and support our teams as we fight Breast Cancer!

Wear a tropical shirt, a grass skirt or a lei.  Tomorrow we’re going to celebrate the tropical way!  Tomorrow’s theme is Hawaiian, so come to school and/or the game dressed like it’s summer!  Please remember to keep your attire appropriate.

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week: This past week a Texas high school and two of its football players were involved in an ugly exchange with a football referee.  In short, the ref was blindsided and was intentionally run over and attacked by the two players. As a student-athlete, you know that emotions run high when you are competing and trying to win. However, there is never a time to justify bad behavior. Regardless of the circumstance, never lose your cool and composure. Part of competing fairly means respecting all of those involved: the officials, coaches, teammates, opponents and the fans. It’s a fact that only one team can win, but everyone loses when bad behavior and bad decision making becomes the headlines!

The junior class shirt sale has once again been extended until this afternoon!  Please take an order form and money (cash only) to Ms. Poling in 1410 or 8080 by the end of the day.  She also has extra order forms if needed.

Sophomore class t-shirt order forms are now available in all sophomore SRT rooms and in Mrs. Newport’s classroom (3200). The order forms are due by Monday to Mrs. Newport and the shirts will cost $10. Money is due with order form.

The boys tennis team will take on Plymouth today at GMS at 4:45 p.m. The winner of this match will have the inside track to the NLC championship! It is also senior night and fan appreciation night. Student Athletic Council members will give away two slices of pizza to the first 20 students who show up to watch a few games who are NOT on the boys tennis team.

The guidance office has received the Lake Michigan Mailers scholarship for any graduating senior who plans to go to college for business.  Please stop in for more information.

GHS will be hosting a college fair on Tuesday, September 29th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.  Over 70 colleges and members of the Armed Forces will be represented.  There will be a financial aid meeting from 7:00-7:30 p.m.

All junior student-athletes are encouraged to take part in the Be the Best leadership program that will take place during 2nd period and SRT in the auditorium on Tuesday, September 29th.  Please sign up for this workshop in the athletic office by Wednesday. Excuses vs. Excellence…..What’s it gonna be Goshen?

Jim Whittaker from Goshen College is running sports performance every Monday and Wednesday after school from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the GHS track for all GHS student athletes not currently in a fall sport.  This is a great way to improve your athleticism!  You need a current physical exam and concussion paperwork on file in the athletic office to join.  See you at the track!

It’s time to order your 2015-2016 school yearbook. The cost of the book is $45 until December, meaning the best time to buy is now! You can find order forms at the RedZone, in the main office, library and the guidance office. Order before October 30th and you can be entered in a drawing to win a free yearbook. 2nd place will receive $5 in RedZone bucks. We will announce the winners on Friday, October 30th.
