GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 2020
WE MISS YOU AND CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!!!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
If you or someone you know is struggling, needing food, or needing additional help with school work, please let your counselor, SRT teacher, or an admin know so you/they can get the help needed!!!
Please note that you will need to be checking your e-mail several times a day as this is the best way for communication during these unprecedented times. It is the easiest way to keep up on new information and any changes.
WELCOME BACK! For those of you new to GHS, these announcements are e-mailed out daily to you. They contain valuable information that you need to know. Please take time to read them!
Books: If you have any books from last school year, please return those as soon as possible! This includes any books from your classes, teachers, or books from the Learning Commons (the old Media Center).
WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.
REMINDER: Students are to wear their IDs at all times. You MUST have your ID to purchase a lunch in the cafeteria. If you forget your ID you can get one at the Welcome Center for $1. If you need a lanyard they are $1, or we can provide string for free.
YOU MUST BE STAYING AFTER SCHOOL FOR SOMETHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS – The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school. This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity. Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner. The cafeteria will stay open until 3:55 p.m. to hand out the snacks.
If you are a student that leaves the building at any time during normal school hours then you must have a sticker on your ID if it’s for a class (PACT, Building Trades, EACC, Merit, shortened schedules, Red Zone, internship, yearbook, etc.) that indicates that or a blue pass from the office indicating that you have permission to leave. Building Trades, EACC and Red Zone students are also required to sign out at the Welcome Center before leaving.
Goshen High School was awarded by the IHSAA for their Sportsmanship Award for the 2019-2020 school year! Out of 412 eligible high schools in Indiana, only 23 qualified for the extremely prestigious award!
Miso Japan Fine Dining on Pike St in Goshen is looking for smiling faces. Open positions: cashier and host, $11/hr for start. Apply walk in 2-4:15 pm daily.
TECHNOLOGY ISSUES:
Students, if you are having trouble with your school laptop, you are welcome to email your school computer support at GHS_TRC@goshenschools.org (Notice there is an underscore after GCS, that is not a blank space.) If you are having trouble with a lesson, please contact your teacher. Contact GHS_TRC@goshenschools.org for things like; it will not power on, the charger is not working, the screen does not work, a computer program will not open (like Chrome or Word), sound or mic not working, things like that.
- PLEASE try to do a full power off, wait at least a minute, then power back on, to see if that fixes the issue. That truly can fix a multitude of issues.
- Please include your full name and email address we can reply to.
- Please describe in detail the issue. Please don’t just say it does not work.
- If there is a pop up message what exactly does it say?
- If you can use the snipping tool to take screen shots of error messages that is very helpful. Just search for the word snip and you should find that.
School Counseling Info:
Welcome! We are glad to have you back in school! We understand that there might be questions about your schedule. Below, you will find instructions on how to access our office to correct your schedule or to check-in with your counselor.
- If you have a missing period or have been placed in the wrong class, please fill out this form:
- If you would like to check in with your counselor, look for a separate e-mail that will contain their Zoom link. There might be a bit of a wait but your counselor will get with you as soon as they can.
SPORTS:
The fall sports teams have formed. If you are brand new to GHS and would like to join a fall team, there must be extenuating circumstances that have kept you from trying out in order for a tryout to be offered. (just moved here, etc…..)
All fall sports athletes are required to be in attendance in classes in order to participate in contests or practices. Coaches and athletic staff will be checking attendance daily.
There is an activity bus that will pick you up for practices on weekdays when you are eLearning. Please see the email from Mr. Kissinger that was sent to you and your parents on Monday, 8/10 with specifics. Riding the activity bus does not excuse you from your 6th and 7th period classes! The bus picking you up has a mifi so you can stay connected. When you arrive at GHS, you are to enter the cafeteria and resume your class connection and stay in the cafeteria until the school day is over. Thanks.
Elkhart County Health Department has published an “order” that no athletic events, except for golf and singles tennis, can have competitions until 8/25. All soccer, cross country, football, and volleyball competitions before 8/25 have been canceled or postponed.
Any person interested in being a football manager this fall, please email Coach Park at kylepark@goshenschools.org.
