GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, MAY 9, 2016

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Graduation tickets can be picked up this week on Tuesday and Thursday during SRT from 8:25-10:25 a.m. outside the main office.  If you are in a senior SRT, please check with your SRT teacher about your designated time to come down.  If you are a Merit student or a junior graduating early you can come any time between 8:25-10:25 a.m.

The Drama Club will take their annual one day trip to Chicago on May 29th.  We will see the play, On Man, Two Guvnors at the Court Theatre.  We will also go to the Chicago Art Museum, dine on the Hyde Park Square and ride in a Cardinal Coach.  Anyone interested can purchase a ticket for $65.00.  Drama Club participants can get a $15.00 discount if they purchase their ticket this week.  See Mrs. Long in room 1400 to purchase tickets, or if you have further questions.

All senior student-athletes who participated in a spring sport can stop by the commons area and see Mr. Kissinger during lunch on Thursday, May 26th for some ice cream and to write thank you notes.  Thank you for your hard work this season!

The guidance office has just received the Indiana Latino Institute Scholarship.  Stop in to pick up an application.

Seniors: If you need your final transcript sent to the college you are attending in the fall or have received any scholarships, please let Ms. Hollinger know in the guidance office.

There will be an informational parent meeting for all girls in Goshen Community Schools currently in grades 5-11 who are interested in playing basketball at Goshen High School or Goshen Middle School next year.  The meeting will take place TONIGHT at Goshen High School in the Cafeteria.  Girls do NOT currently have to be members of the Goshen Girls All-Star teams or the Goshen High School basketball team to attend.  The parent meeting for girls currently in grades 5-7 will take place at 5:30 p.m., while the parent meeting for girls currently in grades 8-11 will begin at 6:30 p.m.  Summer calendars, team camp information, fundraiser information and all necessary paperwork will be handed out during this meeting.  If you have any questions regarding this meeting please contact Coach Krebs at lkrebs@goshenschools.org.

Join us for the art show on Thursday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the media center.

Students who plan on attending Merit summer school:  Enrollment started this week and will continue until spots are filled.  Sessions will run Monday, June 6th thru Thursday, June 30th.  You must attend ALL sessions until your class is complete.  Morning or afternoon sessions are available.  The cost is $50, and you will only be able to complete one class.  You must meet with your Guidance counselor to do the on-line enrollment.  A bill for payment will be emailed to you.  Information forms are now available in the Guidance office, so don’t delay!

Attention Juniors and Seniors:  Prom tickets are now on sale during lunches Tuesday-Friday through May 13th for $45 each, payable by cash or check.  They will also be available the following times:

  • Today after school until 4:15 p.m.
  • Tuesday before school and after school until 4:15 p.m.
  • Friday before school

After hours homework help for any class is now available!  On Mondays and Wednesdays you can meet in the media center after school until 5:00 p.m.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field.  If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Lucas Kauffman, Mr. Brubaker, Mr. Snyder in the choir office or from Mrs. Stealy in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

Congratulations to the Advanced Crimson Choir for their 3rd place finish in State Finals this weekend in Indianapolis.  Also, congratulations to the Wind Ensemble and the Crimson Men’s Choir for being named State Finalists for their fine work on Saturday.  Getting to the Indiana State Music Finals means our groups compete against ALL Indiana high schools regardless of size to be named among the top groups that perform in the State Finals.  Kudos to our music students for their fine work in representing GHS on and off the stage on Saturday!

Congratulations to Connor Glick and Cheyenne Kalb for advancing to the state finals in the 2016 Indiana High School Architectural Design Competition.  The state finals awards ceremony took place Friday night at the Indianapolis Arts Garden where their boards have been displayed for the last two weeks.  Seventy boards advanced to the state final round of judging where awards were then given to the top 11 entries.  Congratulations to Cheyenne for earning one of the Judge’s Distinction Awards!

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Calling all GHS girls:  The girls golf team begins a new dynasty this fall with a new name and a new head coach, Greg Hire.  There will be an informational meeting for all interested girls tomorrow during the 2nd session of SRT in the main gym balcony.  For any girl that cannot make then, there will be an alternate meeting at 8:00 a.m. in the faculty lounge on the same day.

French Club will meet for the last time this year tomorrow during the 2nd session of SRT in room 2430.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The girls varsity softball team defeated Warsaw 6-4.  Kate Atkinson pitched a great game with seven strike outs.  The RedHawks collected nine hits for the night while AnaMaria Ramirez and Jordan Nemeth each had two.

The boys varsity baseball team lost to Warsaw 7-6.  The RedHawks had a two run lead with two outs and nobody on in the 7th but couldn’t close it out.  Corbin Harrison was 3-4 with two doubles, James Paetkau had two hits including a triple, Robbie Riegsecker a double and two RBI’s and Charlie Collins two singles.

The varsity girls tennis team fell to Memorial with the only victory coming from Paulina Medina at 3 Singles.  The JV got their 3rd win of the season thanks to winning efforts from Cheyenne Kalb, Ana Avila, Laura Sanchez, Josie Strader, Katia Gutierrez, Val Proano, Emma Simpson, Pamika Utaka, Cinthia Rios and Bianca Flores.

Goshen’s JV baseball team defeated the Warsaw Tigers on Friday night 5-3.  Austin Cain started on the mound and got the win with Porter Revoir pitching in relief for the save.  The RedHawks offense was led by Will Koshmider, Trenton Scott and Braxton Kincaid, each having two hits apiece.

Congratulations to Logan Holdeman, Courtney Pollock, Ashton Ellis, Austin Hardesty, Kassandra Rodriguez, Alexis Witmer, Chase Brown, Jesse Rhodes, Zach Templeton, Laura Elliot, Austin Peeler, Noah Shively, Kyrie Potter, Jenny Bustos and Jazmin Vargas for competing in the Unified Track & Field meet at South Bend Saint Joseph High School on Friday.  The athletes were up against eight other schools.  Beating their previous personal bests were: Chase Brown, Laura Elliot, Austin Peeler, Courtney Pollock, Jesse Rhodes, Kassandra Rodriguez and Jazmin Vargas.  Their next meet will be the Sectional Meet at Kokomo High School on May 28th.  They truly are “Champions Together.”

The boys baseball team won 7-5 on Saturday.  Conner Glick got his second consecutive win in relief throwing four innings and giving up only one unearned run.  Michal Pinarski had three hits, Corbin Harrison a single and double, James Paetkau two hits and Robbie Riegsecker two hits including his 3rd homerun of the year.

The boys JV baseball team defeated Westview on Saturday by a score of 14-9.  Jacob Haimes started on the mound and Joe Good pitched in relief.  Will Koshmider went 3-3 and Taylor Glasgow added two hits to spark the Goshen offense.  Jack Immel hit a two RBI single in the top of the 7th.

Goshen varsity golf participated in the 1st Annual Concord Invitational at Bent Oak GC.  Their team score was 416.  Peyton Cripe led the RedHawks with a 93, senior Matt Truex shot 94, Taylor Cordell added a 104, William Troyer shot 125 and Even Beck added a 135.

The boys JV golf team participated in the Warsaw JV Invitational held at Rozelle Ford GC in Warsaw.  The team was led by freshman Gabe Yoder with a good 108, Freshman Allan Garratt fired a 113, Junior Will Gaby added a 124 and Junior Ian Shreiner-Barger shot a 126.

The girls JV tennis team finished 6th at Saturday’s Warsaw Invitational.  Cheyenne Kalb at 1 Singles and the 2 doubles team of Cinthia Rios and Katia Gutierrez each finished 4th.

The boys track team won the Kelly Relays Friday night at Concord High School.  The team scored 48 out of a possible 50 points in the field events as well as 50 more points on the track to take the Class A Title.  Scores were Goshen 98, Northwood 67, Elkhart Central 63, Northridge 62, Concord 54, Plymouth 38 & New Prairie 21.  Top Performances: Shot Put -team of Jordan Holley, Brock Tauteris & Thomas Heim (1st) Discus – team of Jordan Holley, Andy Wang & Steven Worlds (1st) Long Jump -team of Cam Kline, Ronaldo Garcia & Jeff Stoll (1st) Pole Vault -team of Brenn McKee, Hudson Kay & Joseph Burkheimer (1st) High Jump -team of Simon Myers, Rummel Johnson & Dave Marshall (2nd) 4×800 Relay -Zach Oyer, Jason Barahona, Juan Perez & Colton Potter (1st)

The girls JV softball team was defeated by the Warsaw Tigers Friday by a score of 11-8.  Sara Breniser was a bright spot for the RedHawks offense going 2-4 with a double and a triple. Breniser also drove in three runs for the RedHawks.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The girls JV and varsity softball teams will host Elkhart Memorial at 5:00 p.m.

The girls JV and varsity tennis teams will play at Warsaw at 5:00 p.m.

The boys JV and varsity baseball teams will play at Elkhart Memorial at 5:00 p.m.
