GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, MARCH 28, 2016                                 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Reminder: After Spring Break cash WILL NOT be accepted in the cafeteria. This includes the al la carte line. If you need to put money on your account, please see Mrs. Haney in the bookkeeper’s office or go to www.myschoolbucks.com.

The girls tennis team will be doing a Give Back Night at Culver’s restaurant in Goshen on April 11th, the first day back after Spring Break. Bring your family and friends for a meal that night to support the girls tennis team, who will be serving your food and cleaning your tables.

All students signing up for Internship class for next year need to have their applications submitted to Mr. Bechtel by Wednesday, prior to leaving for spring break.  Applications may be turned in after the deadline but applications that meet the deadline will be given preference when assigning internship sites.

Seniors, please check the due dates on your scholarships.  Many of them are due during spring break.  Please bring any completed scholarship applications that you want sent to Ms. Hollinger in the guidance office no later than TOMORROW.

Key Club will be collecting personal care items for the Parent Comfort Cart at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis the week of April 11th-15th.  Staff and students who are traveling over Spring Break are encouraged to bring their travel-sized soap, shampoo and conditioner to the Guidance Office for donation.  Other items being accepted include travel-size deodorant, lotion, shaving cream, toothpaste, mouthwash and contact lens solution.  Key Club appreciates your support of Riley Hospital!

Goshen Animal Clinic is currently looking for evening and weekend kennel staff starting as soon as possible through the summer. Hours would be some weekdays from 5:00 p.m. until finished, which could range from 1-4 hours. Weekends would be Saturday and/or Sunday from 7:00 a.m. until finished and/or 5:00 p.m. until finished. Starting pay is $8/hour.  Please stop in at 2806 S. Main St. to fill out an application. You must be 16 years of age or older.

If you are interested in becoming a lifeguard there will be a lifeguarding course offered at the GCS Aquatic Center. The cost of the course is $35. There will be an online portion that you will need to complete yourself before coming to the water skills sessions. Water Skills sessions will be held on Tuesday (4/12), Thursday (4/14), Saturday (4/16) and if needed, on Sunday (4/17). The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Lucas Kauffman, Mr. Brubaker, Mr. Snyder in the choir office or from Mrs. Stealy in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

United States Senator Dan Coates and Congresswoman Jackie Walorski invite you to attend the Indiana Service Academy Day on Saturday, April 23rd from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Miami County Fairgrounds 4H Community Building in Peru. The Goshen Public Library doesn’t just lend books! We also offer FREE activities for young adults. Stop in on Thursdays after school from 4:00-6:00 p.m. to hang out, study, find an independent reading book, play a board game, color or just chillax at the teen café! We’ll also have hot chocolate and coffee. Our two NEW clubs are continuing in March! Weebz Anonymous, our manga club, meets first and third Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. and Courageous Pages, our creative writing club, meets fourth Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the teen area. Our regular programming will conclude this month with the Crafty Bandits, which will meet up on Monday, March 28th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to have snacks and learn how to play with electricity to “hack” art and book cover prints to decorate the teen area. Physical Night will take place on Monday, April 18th at Goshen Orthopedics & Sports Medicine from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Physicals are available to current 6th graders through 11th graders for only $20 and are by appointment only. For an appointment, go to the GHS Athletic Office and sign up with Mrs. Schrock. You must have the completed/signed paperwork (which can be picked up from Mrs. Schrock) and the $20 to reserve your appointment. MEETINGS DURING SRT:

If you are interested in trying out for boys soccer next year, there is a meeting tomorrow during the 2nd session of SRT in Whiteman gym.

Any boy interested in playing football next fall should attend a call out meeting tomorrow in the main gym during the 2nd session of SRT. We will be discussing the expectations of being a RedHawk football team member, the spring and summer calendar, and gathering player information.  Please see Coach Park with any questions or let him know if you will be unable to attend the meeting, but plan on playing.

The girls track team beat Elkhart Central 77-46 with a whole team effort. Goshen was led by Jenny Bustos’ 1st place finish in the 100m dash; Jill Kissinger and Karla Hernandez-Walton’s 1st and 2nd place finishes in the 100m hurdles; Jenny Bustos’ 2nd place finish in the 200m dash; Jill Kissinger and Karla Hernandez-Walton’s 1st and 3rd place finishes in the 300m hurdles; Nora Rangel’s 1st place finish in the 400m dash; Hannah Kurtz and Maggie Gallagher’s 1st and 3rd place finishes in the 800m run; Ashley Sanchez and Annelise Wiebe’s 1st and 2nd place finishes in the 1600m run; Annelise Wiebe, Kirsten Graves and Jacque Fernandez’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the 3200m run; Kyrie Potter and Hannah Rose’s 1st and 2nd place finishes in the high jump; Suzette Rodriguez and Kassandra Rodriguez’s 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the shot put; and Suzette Rodriguez and Jayshelle Booker’s 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the discus. Goshen also won the following relays: 4x100m Relay with Douchee Nozile, Morelia Capuchino Diaz, Brandi Smith, and Jenny Bustos; and the 4x800m Relay with Jillian Kissinger, Maggie Gallagher, Hannah Kurtz, and Nora Rangel. Goshen is now 3-0 on the season.

Four members of the boys track team competed at the indoor Hoosier State Relays on Saturday at Purdue University. Brenn Mckee placed 8th in the pole vault to make the podium and to receive a medal. Josuel Sanchez finished 15th/24 and improved his 60m hurdle time to 8.62. Jordan Holley placed 17th/24 with a shot put of 46’5″. Rummel Johnson did not make the opening height of 6’2″ in the high jump. Great indoor season everyone!

The girls varsity softball team defeated West Noble 13-10. Ana Maria Ramirez’s bat was hot and she went 3 for 5 with 4 RBI’s in the RedHawks win!
