GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 2015

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

REMINDER: Students, you are expected to stay in the commons area each morning until 7:45 a.m. Mondays you need to stay in the commons until 8:45 a.m.

Students, you are reminded NOT to park in the administration building parking lot. They have trainings, conferences, etc. that they need that space for. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Lucas Kauffman, or in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

Super Mileage Club Purpose: To develop super mileage cars that will travel as far as possible on one gallon of fuel.  Members will assist Engineering Design and Development students with the design and construction of vehicles and assist with other technology and maintenance. The first meeting is on September 8th from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in room 8010. See Mr. Holsopple for further details.

The Apex Lab in room 1060 is open from 7:15-8:15 a.m. Tuesday-Friday and 3:45-5:45 p.m. Monday-Thursday for anyone needing to finish up work from this summer or get ahead this fall. Contact Mr. Wolf for more information. If your Apex summer course is not completed by this Friday your incomplete will turn into a F.

Line 1 in the cafeteria will now be cashless.  This means you will need money on your account to purchase food in that line.  You will be able to deposit money in the mornings or online. Starting today, line two will also be cashless.

Rule the Road  This is a free teen driving event complete with a road course with instructors and a pizza lunch on September 10th from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Dept.  This is open to students with a learner’s permit, or in their first year of having their license.  You can pick up a form packet in the main office which must be turned in to Mrs. Stealy with a copy of your learner’s permit or driver’s license by Wednesday.

Attention all students: Herff Jones will be here on Thursday, September 3rd during lunch and after school until 6:00 p.m. for class ring orders. This is your last chance to get your custom “Redskin” design on your ring!

All GHS students and especially GHS student-athletes not in a fall sport are encouraged to take place in off-season workouts.  In addition to open fields/open gyms that your head coaches may be offering, the GHS athletic department is offering sports performance, under the supervision and expertise of Mr. Jim Whittaker, every Monday and Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. starting after Labor Day. All students are welcome but you must have a current physical exam on file in the athletic office as well as the state mandated concussion and cardiac arrest awareness form. The first session will be Wednesday, September 9th and all should meet at the track!  Excellence vs. Excuses, who is winning?

All Together with Pride members who ordered a Summer Program t-shirt please stop by Mr. ME’s classroom, room 2130, to pay and pick up your shirt. The cost for a shirt is $8.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Do you like planning dances, coming up with themes for homecoming, and doing fundraisers? Are you creative and have lots of fun ideas? Why don’t you think about joining student council? We will meet for the first time Thursday during the 2nd session of SRT in the auditorium.  If you are interested in joining please contact Mrs. Pierce in the guidance office!

There will be a call out meeting for all girls not in a fall sport who plan to play basketball this winter.  The meeting will take place during the 2nd session of SRT tomorrow on the balcony of the main gym. If you cannot attend this meeting please make sure you stop by to see Coach Krebs to pick up information.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

In a defensive stalemate Thursday night the Goshen girls soccer team tied Elkhart Central 0-0.  Playing in her first official varsity game keeper Kassandra Rodriguez made a spectacular save to keep the game tied in the final seconds of the game.  Defenders Jill Kissinger, Ashton Ellis, Catherine Loera and Priscila Flores played well in securing Goshen’s first shutout of the season. The JV girls soccer team defeated Elkhart Central 3-0 on Thursday night. Evelyn Santos led the lady Redskins with two goal on assists from Kim Ho.  Hannah Rose also scored for the Redskins.

The JV and varsity boys tennis teams continued their winning streak against West Noble on Friday night. Bobby Sessa didn’t drop a game in his 8-0 match, and Nathan Burns sealed the win for the JV team. The varsity team defeated the Chargers 4-1 and the JV won 6-0.

The boys varsity football team defeated the Fairfield Falcons on Friday night 26-7. Go Skins!

The girls varsity volleyball team lost to LaPorte on Saturday 0-2, defeated Hanover Central 2-0, defeated Merrillville 2-0 and lost to West Lafayette 2-1.

The boys tennis team won the Goshen Round Robin on Saturday without dropping any matches. Hudson Kay went 2-0 at 1 Singles, losing only six games while winning 24. Hugh Birky pulled out a 3-set win in his first singles match of the season, and Giovanni Aguayo and Bobby Sessa were victorious in their varsity debuts. Simon Myers also got his first varsity win of the season.

The boys varsity soccer team defeated West Noble on Saturday 6-3. Goshen used a superior possession game to control much of the match. Two of West Noble’s goals came off of penalty kicks. Goshen scorers were Alexis Martinez, Juan Castaneda, Aaron Urzua, Marcos Hernandez, Lucas Bontreger and Sebastian Flores. Assists: Aaron Urzua, Alvaro Romo, Chris Garcia, Alex Martinez and Daniel Rosales

The boys varsity cross country team took 4th place this weekend. Jason Barahona and Juan Perez 6th place followed by Sergei Culp and Erik Villegas 11th, Irving Suarez and Zach Oyer 12th and Nate Ganger and Angel Arrelo 20th. In the JV race Felix Perez-Diener and Jacob Lichty place 6th, followed by Jonathon Snyder and Josh Schirch 14th, Chris Sanchez and Brian Crain 16th, Alex Pressler and Jose Chiquito 20th and Ben Good-Elliott and Daniel Hidalgo 30th.

The boys JV soccer team scored three goals in a four minute span early in the second half to cruise to victory over West Noble. The lone goal for West Noble came on a pk with 30 seconds remaining. Goal Scorers: Ciro Aguilar, Anibal Argueta-Garcia, Eduardo Garcia, Sebastian Palacios, Saulo Luna, Ramiro Weaver and Efren Ortega  Assists: Adolfo Villegas, Franciso Hernandez (twice) and Eduardo Garcia

Nora Rangel and Annelise Wiebe were the top pair for girls cross country in the Hokum-Karem placing 4th, followed by Kirsten Graves and Jacque Fernandez 11th, Paola Rangel and Ariana Perez-Diener 12th and Elena Meyer-Riemer and Montserrat Reyes 21st.

The girls soccer team traveled to Fort Wayne on Saturday coming away with 4-2 victory over Fort Wayne Concordia.  Hannah Kurtz, Xenia Isaula, Aylissa Trosper and Alyssa Hershberger all scored goals for the Lady Redskins.  Aylissa Trosper also had two assists and Hannah Kurtz one.  Congratulations to keeper Alyssa Hershberger in scoring her first varsity goal!  Kassandra Rodriguez had a strong second half in goal with eight saves. The JV team also defeated Fort Wayne Concordia 4-2. Kim Ho and Evelyn Santos each had two goals to lead the offense.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The boys JV and varsity tennis teams will compete at Elkhart Central at 5:00 p.m.

The boys JV football team will host Fairfield at 6:00 p.m.
