ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Baseball conditioning sessions are taking place at the Chandler Gym on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 a.m. If attending, park or get dropped off on Cottage and enter from the back of the school. Doors will open at 6:15 a.m. You must have athletic paperwork on file in the Athletic Office to participate. Address questions to Coach Collins in the library.
Auditions for the spring musical “TARZAN” will begin December 6th from 3:45-6:00 p.m. All those wishing to audition should come prepared to sing 60 to 90 seconds of a song of your choice. It can be anything! We will have an accompanist, so bring your favorite Christmas carol, fight song, Broadway song or even a hymn and audition after school Wednesday, December 6th. This is going to be another outstanding GHS production!
Congratulations to Caroline Greaser and Katie Herschberger for earning a spot in the 2018 Indiana All State Orchestra! Congratulations also to Cade Fisher and Anton Pham for their spot as an alternate in the All State Orchestra! They all were selected as some of the top string players by submitting a CD to an independent panel of judges.
All GHS students with a current year ID will gain free admission to TONIGHT’S home boys basketball game vs. Mishawaka. Come and cheer on the RedHawks!
The wrestling team hosts Elkhart Memorial on Tuesday, December 7th at 6:45 p.m. in their first home meet of the year. All students are invited to attend this contest for free by showing their current year school ID at the ticket gate. Come support the GHS wrestlers and bring your school ID!
All freshmen in a winter sport who are in their first season of athletics at GHS need to report to the cafeteria immediately after school TODAY for the Be the Best Leadership Program. The session will run from 3:45-4:45 p.m. Thank you, and Go RedHawks!
REMINDER: The Richard Lugar Scholarships are due in Guidance TODAY.
Any current freshmen, sophomore and junior football players should see Coach Weldy this week in 2360 to sign up to work concessions next Saturday, December 9th at the boys basketball game.
Attention Students: Herff Jones will be here on Tuesday, December 12th before school for class ring delivery, and for senior orders for caps and gowns, graduation announcements and other senior items. Extra packets are available in the main office.
With ISTEP testing starting next week, we need to make sure that your laptops are ready. Please see your SRT teacher and they will give you the info to login to the testing accounts on your computers.
Starting next week, December 5th through Christmas break, any student interested in pole vaulting for the boy’s and girl’s track teams can attend open vault sessions in the warehouse on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Coach Place will be there to provide his coaching expertise along with our senior returning letter winner and Conference, Sectional and Regional Champion, as well as State Qualifier Lucas De Moya and other top vaulters from last season. This is a great opportunity to try a challenging event. Please be on time and be ready to participate. Contact Coach Clark or Willis if you have any questions.
IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week: How was your Thanksgiving break? Did you have an opportunity to give your mind and body some rest? If you are playing a winter sport, a free day or two is very useful during this time of year. However, now is the time to buckle down again. Don’t slack in the classroom. Make it a point to pay close attention to your grades, you only have a few weeks until winter break. Is your team off to a good start in November? Don’t slack on the court, in the pool or the wrestling room. Strive to improve daily. The season flies by so quickly and you don’t want to look back when it’s over with any regrets. Preparation today provides positive results tomorrow. Make sure that you are doing your part every day to improve yourself and your teammates. Those that don’t may find themselves falling behind with little or no time to catch up!
Scripts are due back from all actors in the fall play by TODAY. If you wish to purchase your script, you need to bring $10 to room 1400 by TODAY as well.
Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in the media center from 3:45-5:00 p.m. A bus will be available around 5:10 p.m. (5:20 p.m. on Tuesdays) if you need a ride home. It will pick you up at the south end of circle drive by the flag pole. This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.
REMINDER: If you are a student interested in Marine Biology, the down payment and application are due TODAY. Turn these in to Mrs. Weaver in room 3070 or 3030, the Science office.
Goshen Community Schools will host three public meetings to further explain the Strategic Planning Facilities Committee recommendation to the school board. Their recommendation was to proceed with building a new 5-8 Intermediate School on the school-owned property at SR 119 and Greene Road, and to convert the current Goshen Middle School to a 5-8 Intermediate School as well. Please plan to attend one of the meetings listed below to learn more about the rationale that led to this recommendation and to give your input. There will be table group discussions held following the presentation in order to receive feedback from the public. Meetings will be held at these locations and times:
- Monday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m. at the Goshen High School Cafeteria
- Tuesday, December 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the Goshen Middle School Cafeteria
Anyone interested in Ski Club for the 2018 season needs to see Mrs. Clark in room 2280. Forms and money are due by December 15th.
ATTENTION ALL SRT CLASSES: We will have a competition between all of the SRT’s to see who can collect the most bottle caps. Starting this week, there will be bins in each SRT classroom and the caps will be collected every week. The winning SRT with the most caps will get HOMEMADE CINNAMON ROLLS or a PIZZA PARTY! The competition will end before Spring Break. If we collect 400 pounds as a school, we will be able to recycle them into a park bench. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to save the environment and win a prize! If you would like to collect or sort caps during SRT contact Mrs. Swihart in room 2200 or email her at cswihart@staff.goshenschools.org. It will count for NHS volunteer hours and it looks great on college applications!

WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.
Online yearbook sales are set up! All you have to do is go to www.yearbookordercenter.com and enter our school code (14723) to order your yearbook or yearbook ad.
Just a reminder that if you are coming to see Ms. Tovar we have a new procedure. You need to check in with the staff in the main office and fill out a request to see her. She will send a white pass for you as she has time. Please do not cut through the nurse’s office to get to her. You need to enter through the main office.
The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school. This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity. Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner. The cafeteria will stay open until 3:55 p.m. to hand out the snacks.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club will meet every weather permitting Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field across from door M. You can pick up required papers from Lucas Kauffman, Mr. Snyder in the choir office or Mrs. Stealy in the main office. All required papers need to be turned in to Lucas Kauffman by the first time you play.

The freshman boys basketball team won 31-30 at Plymouth. Goshen was led by Reece Fisher’s 12 points, while both Blak Wiess and Colin Turner added six a piece. Goshen won the game on a FT with two seconds remaining, and moves to 1-3 on the season.
IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:
Boys basketball will host Mishawaka. JV plays at 6:15 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:45 p.m.
On Saturday:
The boys varsity wrestling team will compete in the Plymouth Super Dual at 9:00 a.m.
The boys JV wrestling team will compete in the Concord Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
The boys and girls varsity swim and dive team will host the Goshen Relays at 10:00 a.m.
Boys basketball will play at Ft. Wayne Carroll. The freshmen and JV teams both start at 6:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:45 p.m.
Girls basketball will play at Plymouth. JV starts at 6:45 p.m., followed by varsity at 8:00 p.m.
