GHS Announcements for Friday, April 23, 2021
PROM:
Summer School Registration is open now until May 14th. All summer classes will be offered in-person either at GHS or Merit Learning Center. There will be on APEX and teacher-led courses available, as well as PE. There will be no options to complete classes virtually from home.
Students interested in completing a class this summer should contact their counselor to get more information or follow the steps on the 2021 GHS/Merit Summer School information page to get access to the Summer School Enrollment form.
TUTORING
We are adding another night of tutoring after school. In addition to Tuesday and Thursday nights, we will now be offering help on Wednesdays. So now students can get tutoring on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights from 3:45-5:00 in the cafeteria. A snack and transportation home (within the district) will be provided.
Cap and gown delivery is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11th. Jostens will be here for both sessions of SRT, so if a student is assigned one session, they should go to pick up materials at the beginning of the other session. For students who are not assigned, SRTS should go down to the athletic concession area at the following time:
10:00 – all career center students, juniors graduating early, students assigned both sessions
10:10- B Kaufman, Hershberger, C Wohlford/Weaver

*** ROA students can come anytime during SRT. If you are unable to make it during that time, Mrs. Clark will have the leftovers.
It is time for the annual GHS Prom Dress Drive. The purpose of this drive is to provide free dresses for students who want to go to the prom but may be in financial need. We have several dresses in various styles and sizes to choose from. If you are in need of a prom dress or if you wish to donate a gently used dress, please contact Mrs. Hershberger in Room 3260 (rrhershberger@staff.goshenschools.org) or Mrs. Shakley in Room 2255 (tshakley@staff.goshenschools.org). You may also email or ask one of your teachers to help you get in contact with one of us.
SPORTS:
Spring sports have started and the fan attendance plan is by venue. At track & field at Foreman Field, tennis, golf, JV baseball at the Little League and V/JV softball at Shanklin, there are no capacity limits but all Covid protocols must be followed to attend, including wearing a face covering at all times. For baseball played at Phend Field, we do have to restrict to 4 fans/rostered player.
Boys’ soccer limited contact/skills development for this spring will start today from 7:00-9:00 PM. This is open to any students who is interested in trying out for boys soccer next season. You must have a physical on file in the athletic office to participate. These limited contact/physical development sessions will take place very Monday and Thursday from 7:00-9:00 PM. This will take place at the soccer practice field. And you must have a face mask with you. If you have any questions, please contact one of the coaching staff.
Any boy interested in playing football next fall should attend a call out meeting on Tuesday April 27th during 2nd session of SRT in the main gym. Please bring your laptop and something to write with. We will be gathering information and discussing the spring and summer workouts and competition days.
Girls Soccer has “limited contact” training sessions on Mondays and Wednesday’s from 4:-5:45 starting April 12. Contact coach Myron Bontreger for any questions
SPORTS RESULTS:
The RedHawks JV baseball team suffered a lop-sided defeat to Northridge on Thursday evening. Northridge scored 32 runs on 19 hits, while Goshen’s defense had seven errors in the field and RedHawks’ pitchers hit four batters and walked 17 more. RedHawk batters failed to get a base hit and struck out in 8 of their 16 at bats.. Goshen will look to improve their play at Mishawaka’s Baker Park Friday evening at 5:30pm and then plays South Bend Adams at GHS Phend Field on Saturday at 10am.
The Goshen RedHawks Varsity Softball team watched the game slip away and couldn’t recover in an 8-1 loss to Northridge. The score was 2-1 in the 4th inning when Northridge rallied to score 4 runs. Goshen had 4 hits for the night while Tyra Marcum had 2 ,Kareena Ulfig and Reghan Yoder had 1 a piece. Tyra Marcum also went 2 for 2 with a triple and the lone run scored. The RedHawks are in action on Friday against Mishawka for a 5:30 start.
Goshen saw athletes in the top 3 for: high jump, long jump, discus, shot put, and pole vault. For the running events, top 3 finishes were in the: 4×800 relay, 100, 1600, 4×100 relay, 400, 300 hurdles, 800, 200, 3200, and 4×400.

The Goshen Baseball team was doomed by the big inning on Thursday night against NLC foe, Northridge Raiders. The RedHawks surrendered a 5 run 2nd inning and a 10 run 6th inning in route to a 15-3 loss to drop the season record to 5-5 (1-1 NLC).
Although he struggled with control at times, Mitch Daniels pitched an excellent game for the RedHawks. He surrendered only 3 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 strikeouts, keeping the RedHawks in the game when he exited in the 6th inning.
The RedHawks fell behing 5-0 but were able to bring the score to 5-3 after 5 innings before the Raiders erupted for a 10 run 6th inning to put the RedHawks away. The RedHawks were held to 5 hits from 5 different players. Noah Alford and Noah Meikle each had an RBI to lead the offense. Reece Fisher, Thomas Castillo, Noah Alford and Mitch Daniels (2) all stole a base as well.
The RedHawks continue the NLC season Friday when they head to Mishawaka to face the Caveman for their 3rd conference game in as many days. The game is slated to start at 5:30pm.
The RedHawks came away with a hard fought win against the Plymouth Pilgrims 74.33-57.66. The meet came down to a couple of events at the end of the meet. The Goshen boys won two of the three relays and swept the scoring in 3 events. The scoring summary for the RedHawks:
