GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2015

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

SENIORS: If you are interested in taking the first available SAT, it will be offered at Concord High School and other sites in the area on Saturday, October 3rd. The regular registration deadline is midnight tomorrow.  If you need a fee waiver form, please see your Guidance Counselor.

JUNIORS: You will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday, October 14th, so you DO NOT need to take an SAT.  There will be more details at a later date.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Lucas Kauffman, or in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

Super Mileage Club Purpose: To develop super mileage cars that will travel as far as possible on one gallon of fuel.  Members will assist Engineering Design and Development students with the design and construction of vehicles and assist with other technology and maintenance. The first meeting is on Tuesday from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in room 8010. See Mr. Holsopple for further details.

Line 1, 2 and 3 in the cafeteria will now be cashless.  This means you will need money on your account to purchase food in that line.  You will be able to deposit money in the mornings or online at myschoolbucks.com. This is a free service.

Starting Tuesday, if you have a negative balance in your lunch account you could be offered an alternate lunch.  Please check your balance before Tuesday.

All GHS students and especially GHS student-athletes not in a fall sport are encouraged to take place in off-season workouts.  In addition to open fields/open gyms that your head coaches may be offering, the GHS athletic department is offering sports performance, under the supervision and expertise of Mr. Jim Whittaker, every Monday and Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. starting after Labor Day. All students are welcome but you must have a current physical exam on file in the athletic office as well as the state mandated concussion and cardiac arrest awareness form. The first session will be Wednesday and all should meet at the track!  Excellence vs. Excuses, who is winning?

Any boy interested in playing basketball this year and is not involved in a fall sport should stop and see Coach Bechtel, or any assistant coach (Wohlford, Davis, McLaughlin), to pick up a fall workout schedule.  Fall workout schedules are also located at www.goshenbasketball under the Schedules tab.  Workouts will begin after Labor Day.  All participants will need an IHSAA physical before participating.  If you need that paperwork stop by the athletic office.

Rule the Road  This is a free teen driving event complete with a road course with instructors and a pizza lunch on October 10th (note the date change) from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Dept.  This is open to students with a learner’s permit, or in their first year of having their license.  You can pick up a form packet in the main office which must be turned in to Mrs. Stealy with a copy of your learner’s permit or driver’s license by September 28th.

Universal Tamal on Main St. in Goshen is looking for a waitress/waiter that is fluent in English and Spanish and is able to work a maximum of twenty hours a week. If interested, please apply in person.

If you are 18 and looking to work weekend shifts in an industrial setting, Brunk Corporation is looking to hire workers to work 8-16 hours on the weekend (1 or 2 eight hour shifts each weekend).  This job starts at $12.00/hour and requires that you can start and stop a machine as it fills boxes with plastic pellets, move boxes to storage racks and possibly drive a forklift. This position could work into full time work in the future.  If interested, contact Joe McPhilamy at 533-1109 ext. 35.  He is willing to give you a tour of the plant and start training you as soon as possible.

The volleyball team will be having Hacienda night on Monday, September 14th. A percentage of their sales will go to the volleyball team for each ticket that has a coupon with it. You can also purchase gift cards to support the team.  Stock up now on your gift cards for Christmas and birthdays! If you are unable to attend on the 14th and would like to purchase a gift card, stop by the athletic office and see Mrs. West or email her at kwest@goshenschools.org. Coupons for this event can be found at the Welcome Center, in the athletic office or by asking any volleyball player. Come enjoy a night out at Hacienda and support our volleyball team!

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Attention GHS Spellers!  There will be a Spell Bowl call-out meeting during the 2nd session of SRT on Tuesday. Meet in Lisa Caskey’s room, 3130.  Spell Bowl is open to any GHS student.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The boys JV soccer team defeated Plymouth 5-3. Goal scorers for Goshen were Adolfo Villegas (3), Ramiro Weaver and Jr Argueta. Assists for Goshen were Diego Lorea, Adolfo Villegas (2) and Ciro Agular. Adolfo Villegas was involved in every Goshen goal.

The boys varsity soccer team defeated Plymouth 6-0. Early in the second half with Goshen up 2-0, Plymouth picked up a red card on a Goshen break away. From that point on Goshen easily controlled the rest of the match. Goal scorers for Goshen were Juan Castaneda, Sebastian Flores, Aaron Urzua, Marcos Hernandez, Daniel Rosales and Alex Rosales. Assists were Marcos Hernandez (2), Lucas Bontreger (2) and Kevin Arellano. Shots on goal were 15-5 in favor of Goshen and corners were 4-1 in favor of Goshen.

The girls varsity soccer team defeated Laporte last night 4-2.  Aylissa Trosper led the offense with two goals and 1 assist. Kassandra Rodriguez and Maggie Gallagher also scored on assists from Jill Kissinger and Xenia Isaula.  The Lady Redskins are now 4-2-1 on the season.

The girls JV soccer team defeated Laporte 4-0. Maritza Ramos, Hannah Rose, Eveyln Santos and Sandra Mondragon scored goals for Goshen.  Alexia Reina and Hannah Rose assisted on the goals.  The JV team’s record is now 5-1 on the season.

The boys tennis team swept all five courts at Northridge, advancing to 11-0 in their season. The 2 Doubles team of Jacob Grewe and Giovanni Aguayo pulled out yet another 3-set win. Simon Myers and Mitchell Yoder dropped one game each, scoring 8-1 wins for JV. Nathaneal Wertz clinched the JV win in a tiebreaker.

The girls C volleyball team lost to Wabash 0-2, and Warsaw 0-2.

The girls JV volleyball team lost to Warsaw 0-2.

The girls varsity volleyball team lost to Warsaw 0-3.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The boys JV and varsity tennis teams will host Fairfield at 4:30 p.m.

The boys varsity football team will host Elkhart Memorial at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday’s Events:

The boys and girls JV and varsity cross country teams will compete in the Harrison Invitational at 9:00 a.m.

The boys JV football team will travel to Elkhart Memorial at 10:00 a.m.

The girls JV and varsity soccer teams will travel to Wawasee. The JV team plays at 10:00 a.m., followed by varsity at 11:45 a.m.
