GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2015

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Lucas Kauffman, or in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

Super Mileage Club Purpose: To develop super mileage cars that will travel as far as possible on one gallon of fuel.  Members will assist Engineering Design and Development students with the design and construction of vehicles and assist with other technology and maintenance. The first meeting is today from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in room 8010. See Mr. Holsopple for further details.

Line 1, 2 and 3 in the cafeteria will now be cashless.  This means you will need money on your account to purchase food in that line.  You will be able to deposit money in the mornings or online at myschoolbucks.com. This is a free service.

Starting today, if you have a negative balance in your lunch account you could be offered an alternate lunch.

All GHS students and especially GHS student-athletes not in a fall sport are encouraged to take place in off-season workouts.  In addition to open fields/open gyms that your head coaches may be offering, the GHS athletic department is offering sports performance, under the supervision and expertise of Mr. Jim Whittaker, every Monday and Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. All students are welcome but you must have a current physical exam on file in the athletic office as well as the state mandated concussion and cardiac arrest awareness form. The first session will be tomorrow and all should meet at the track!  Excellence vs. Excuses, who is winning?

Any boy interested in playing basketball this year and is not involved in a fall sport should stop and see Coach Bechtel, or any assistant coach (Wohlford, Davis, McLaughlin), to pick up a fall workout schedule.  Fall workout schedules are also located at www.goshenbasketball under the Schedules tab.  Workouts will begin this week.  All participants will need an IHSAA physical before participating.  If you need that paperwork stop by the athletic office.

Rule the Road  This is a free teen driving event complete with a road course with instructors and a pizza lunch on October 10th (note the date change) from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Dept.  This is open to students with a learner’s permit, or in their first year of having their license.  You can pick up a form packet in the main office which must be turned in to Mrs. Stealy with a copy of your learner’s permit or driver’s license by September 28th.

The volleyball team will be having Hacienda night on Monday, September 14th. A percentage of their sales will go to the volleyball team for each ticket that has a coupon with it. You can also purchase gift cards to support the team.  Stock up now on your gift cards for Christmas and birthdays! If you are unable to attend on the 14th and would like to purchase a gift card, stop by the athletic office and see Mrs. West or email her at kwest@goshenschools.org. Coupons for this event can be found at the Welcome Center, in the athletic office or by asking any volleyball player. Come enjoy a night out at Hacienda and support our volleyball team!

Boys and girls bowling practice/try-outs will start on Monday, September 14th and Wednesday, September 16th at 4:00 p.m. Please contact Maple City Bowl at 533-8564 for more information. If you like to bowl come and tryout at no cost to you. Any skill level will be considered.

Jostens representatives will be here on Thursday, September 17th during SRT to take senior orders for cap/gown/tassel units and graduation products in the commons.  A $75 deposit is required.  Announcement packets are available in the main office or check out all Jostens products at jostens.com.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Attention GHS Spellers!  There will be a Spell Bowl call-out meeting during the 2nd session of SRT today. Meet in Lisa Caskey’s room, 3130.  Spell Bowl is open to any GHS student.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The girls cross country team competed at the Harrison Invite and placed 14th. Nora Rangel paced the ladies placing 46th followed by Ariana Perez Diener 58th, Annelise Wiebe 75th, Jacque Fernandez 90th, Kirsten Graves 99th and Paola Rangel 110th.

The boys cross country team competed at the Harrison Invite and placed 12th. Juan Perez was Goshen’s first harrier to cross the line placing 30th. He was followed by Jason Barahona 55th, Sergei Culp 81st, Erik Villegas 82nd, Zach Oyer 86th, Angel Arrelo 88th and Brian Crain 103rd.

In a rain downpour Saturday morning the girls varsity soccer team defeated Wawasee 7-0.  Both Aylissa Trosper and Alyssa Hershberger had hat tricks for the Lady Redskins.  Alyssa Hershberger set a school record by scoring all three of her goals with her head.  Hannah Kurtz also had a great game scoring a goal and assisting on three of the goals. The varsity girls are now 5-2-1 on the season.

The JV team defeated Wawasee 5-0. Kim Ho, Karina Pimentel, Hannah Rose, Maritza Ramos and Sandra Mondragon all scored goals for the Redskins.  Kim Ho, Monse Urzua, Evelyn Santos and Maritza Ramos assisted on the goals.  The JV girls moved their record to 6-1 on the season.

The Goshen Redskins beat the Elkhart Memorial Chargers 17-14 on Friday night.

The JV football team defeated Elkhart Memorial 13-0 Saturday morning. Tyrell Staton scored a rushing touchdown. Sergio Cervantes had an interception returned for a touchdown. Tyler Brinson kicked the extra point. Joseph Burkheimer had an interception. Adrian Murrillo had a fumble recovery.

The boys tennis team claimed all five courts against Fairfield. The one doubles team of Luke Rush and Logan Troyer didn’t drop a game, winning 6-0, 6-0. Hudson Kay closed out his first set in a tie breaker and won the second set as well. Wes Beck and the doubles team of Bobby Sessa and Nathanael Wertz both won 8-1 matches for the JV squad.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The boys JV and varsity tennis teams will host Wawasee at 4:30 p.m.

The boys JV and varsity soccer teams will host Concord. The JV game starts at 5:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 6:45 p.m.

The girls JV and varsity golf teams will host West Noble and Concord at Maplecrest at 5:00 p.m.

The girls freshman, JV and varsity volleyball teams will host Elkhart Memorial. The freshman and JV teams play at 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:00 p.m.

The boys and girls JV and varsity cross country teams will travel to compete against Plymouth and Northridge at 5:30 p.m.
