This Friday, Goshen hosts 13 schools in a Unified track & field meet.  We need timers and field event workers.  If any students would like to work this event, please notify Mr. Kissinger by email or see him at lunch on Wednesday.  Your commitment would be from roughly 5 PM – 8 PM, based on your assigned duty.

The Color Guard Spring Training and Auditions for ALL STUDENTS will begin on May 11th at Goshen MIDDLE School.  Auditions will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from May 11th – May 26th from 4pm-6pm.  Meet in Mrs. Stoll’s room, 509.  Dress in athletic clothes including tennis shoes with socks.  Bring water.  No prior experience necessary.

French Club and German Club are having a combined meeting today during the 2nd session of SRT in room 1535. Any French or German student is invited to come and join in some fun competitions! If the weather is nice we will also be going outside. Hope to see you there!

Drama Club One Acts performances will be on Saturday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the GHS auditorium! Tickets will be $5 at the door. Come see short student-directed performances that GHS students have spent a lot of time on!

PROM:

SENIORS: The State of Indiana is extending the FAFSA filing deadline beyond the original deadline of April 15, 2021. There is no set end date for the extension. Funding will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, so students are encouraged to file as soon as possible.

Volleyball has started limited contact, times are M/F
6:00am-7:45am. There are information sheets in the weight room and athletic office for those interested in volleyball. There are also Summer League sign up sheets for anyone interested in playing this summer.

Goshen City Council Youth Advisor voting for Thursday, 5/20   

If you are a current junior and interested in politics or government and would like to serve alongside the Goshen City Council, please contact Mr. Weldy via email at jweldy@staff.goshenschools.org about running for the 2021-22 Goshen City Council Youth Advisor position.  Feel free to contact Hazany Palomino with questions, as she is the current representative for GHS or reach out to Josh Scrock, Jake Smith, or Misleny Moreno as they were involved in the 2020/21 election and currently serving in other roles with Goshen city.

TUTORING 
We are adding another night of tutoring after school. In addition to Tuesday and Thursday nights, we will now be offering help on Wednesdays. So now students can get tutoring on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights from 3:45-5:00 in the cafeteria. A snack and transportation home (within the district) will be provided.

Cap and gown delivery is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11th. Jostens will be here for both sessions of SRT, so if a student is assigned one session, they should go to pick up materials at the beginning of the other session. For students who are not assigned, SRTS should go down to the athletic concession area at the following time:
10:00 – all career center students, juniors graduating early, students assigned both sessions

It is time for the annual GHS Prom Dress Drive.  The purpose of this drive is to provide free dresses for students who want to go to the prom but may be in financial need.  We have several dresses in various styles and sizes to choose from.  If you are in need of a prom dress or if you wish to donate a gently used dress, please contact Mrs. Hershberger in Room 3260 (rrhershberger@staff.goshenschools.org) or Mrs. Shakley in Room 2255 (tshakley@staff.goshenschools.org).  You may also email or ask one of your teachers to help you get in contact with one of us.

SPORTS:
Spring sports have started and the fan attendance plan is by venue. At track & field at Foreman Field, tennis, golf, JV baseball at the Little League and V/JV softball at Shanklin, there are no capacity limits but all Covid protocols must be followed to attend, including wearing a face covering at all times. For baseball played at Phend Field, we do have to restrict to 4 fans/rostered player.

There are about 20 Boys Goshen Relays tee shirts left that the athletic department will sell to boys and girls track & field team members for our cost of $10. If you would like to buy one, please see Mrs. Schrock or Mr. Miller in the athletic office. If we have any left after this week, we will open up sales to all. They are a beautiful orange long sleeve tee with the competing schools listed on the back.

SPORTS RESULTS:
The boys Varsity Goshen RedHawks (9-7, 5-2 NLC) fell to the Northwood Panthers 9-0 on Monday night. The game was tied at 0 after 4 innings when the Panthers were able to push a run across to take a 1-0 lead in the 5th. In the 6th, the Panthers opened it up with a 5 run inning to all but put the game away.
Noah Meikle started on the mound for the RedHawks and took a no hit game into the 5th inning and only allowed 2 hits on the evening. Unfortunately, the offense was not able to get anything going to provide support for Meikle on the mound.
The RedHawks had 5 hits offensively. Colin Turner and Noah Alford each had 2 hits to lead the otherwise quiet offense on the evening.
The RedHawks will travel down SR15 to play Bethany Christian in a non conference game on Tuesday evening at 5pm.

The girls Varsity softball team got things going early scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning and beat NorthWood 5-2 on Monday. Olivia Koshmider and Emma Detwiler each had 3 hits while Tyra Marcum added 2. Koshmider and Kareena Ulfig each had a double with Ulfig driving in 2 runs. Tyra Marcum earned the win pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 8 strikeouts, and 0 earned runs. The RedHawks are now 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the NLC. Goshen returns to action on Wednesday when they host Northridge for a 5:00 game
