GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2017

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Congratulations to the Lady RedHawk bowlers for shutting out Memorial 20-0 last night!  Katie Kercher, Kailie Hurst and Ebony Jessen led the way.  Good luck at sectionals ladies!

GHS Choirs will present their Winter Concert “A Festive Noel” on Friday.  The choirs will perform the same concert twice, first at 6:00 p.m. and again at 8:15 p.m.  Tickets are $4 per person and can be purchased in the choir office (cash and carry) or at the door.  Tickets are reserved seating.  Choirs performing will include Crimson Women’s Chorus, Crimson Choir, Advanced Crimson Chorale, Crimson Men’s Choir, Advanced Crimson Choir and the Crimsonaires.

Please join us for Culver’s Night and show your support for the GHS band on Monday, December 18th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Both dine in and drive through orders count!

The lost and found at the Welcome Center will be cleaned out over Christmas and all items that are left will be donated to Goodwill.  There is an abundance of water bottles, clothing of all types, coats and gloves that have lost their owners.  Please claim them before it is too late!

If you are a student that leaves the building at any time during normal school hours then you must have a sticker on your ID if it’s for a class (PACT, Building Trades, EACC, Merit, shortened schedules, Red Zone, internship, etc.) that indicates that or a blue pass from the office indicating that you have permission to leave.  Building Trades, EACC and Red Zone students are also required to sign out at the Welcome Center before leaving.

REMINDER:  Students, please do NOT park in visitor’s spots!  This is continuing to be a problem.  OJ will write ordinance violation tickets to students caught parking illegally on school property.  The minimum fine in Goshen City Court is $165 for each violation.  Also, remember that you MUST have a parking permit on file with Mrs. Haney in the bookkeeper’s office to park on school property.  Requirements are a VALID license (not a permit), VALID proof of insurance, a VALID registration and $5.

Winter coats are here courtesy of the United Way and Goshen Community Schools Winter Coat Give-Away!  If you need a coat for the winter or know someone who does, stop by the Goshen Schools Administration Building at 613 E. Purl St. from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.  If you are unable to come during those times, call 971-4149 to arrange a time.

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week:  Popular television star Chip Gaines from the show Fixer Upper was quoted in People Magazine as saying, “I’d rather be missed than the idea of someone tiring of me.”  This has been his philosophy in life.  This quote might be a good way for a student-athlete to have a teacher or coach view his/her time spent in the classroom and on the court or field of play.  In other words, you want to make the type of impact on your classmates and teammates that leaves a long and lasting positive impression – not one where people tire of you and want you to go away.  Think about your actions on and off the field.  Make the right choices and leave your school with a legacy you will be proud of.

On Tuesday, January 9th all sophomore student-athletes are strongly encouraged to attend the Be the Best Leadership Workshop in the auditorium.   The workshop begins at 8:25 a.m. and concludes at 10:55 a.m., so all attendees can make their 2nd session of SRT commitments.  Besides sportsmanship, there will be activities on integrity and prevention of bullying and hazing.  Please sign up in the GHS athletic office before Christmas break or with Mr. Kissinger on Monday lunch duty.  This is for ALL sophomore student-athletes, not just winter sport kids.  Go Big Red!

The Ceres Solutions Scholarship is available in the Guidance Office and on the Guidance Department’s web page.  Eligibility Requirements are that you are a student who has been involved in four years of 4-H.

Due to testing, the Student Senate Faculty meeting is rescheduled for TOMORROW at 7:45 a.m. in the media center.

Yearbook is looking for photos of you and your GHS friends!  Please email them to slong@staff.goshenschools.org.  You will need your name and grade plus the name and grade of any friends in the photos.  Don’t delay, send them today!

Girls’ Golf will hold open gym in the warehouse on Thursdays from 7:45-8:30 p.m.  Bring your clubs and make sure to dress warm if the temperature outside is cold!  Contact Coach Walesa or Coach Pecenka if you have any questions.  We hope to see you there!

Sign-ups for intramural basketball will continue through Friday, December 22nd. The cost is $8 per person, and you must have a concussion form on file with the athletic office. Individual sign up forms, and team sign up forms can be picked up from Lucas Kauffman, or the athletic office.  All forms and money must be turned in to Mr. Kauffman before December 22nd. If you have questions, please e-mail Lucas Kauffman.

Baseball conditioning sessions are taking place at the Chandler Gym on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 a.m.  If attending, park or get dropped off on Cottage and enter from the back of the school.  Doors will open at 6:15 a.m.  You must have athletic paperwork on file in the Athletic Office to participate.  Address questions to Coach Collins in the library.

Any student interested in pole vaulting for the boy’s and girl’s track teams can attend open vault sessions in the warehouse on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. through Christmas break. Coach Place will be there to provide his coaching expertise along with our senior returning letter winner and Conference, Sectional and Regional Champion, as well as State Qualifier Lucas De Moya and other top vaulters from last season.  This is a great opportunity to try a challenging event.  Please be on time and be ready to participate.  Contact Coach Clark or Willis if you have any questions.

Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in the media center from 3:45-5:00 p.m.  A bus will be available around 5:10 p.m. (5:20 p.m. on Tuesdays) if you need a ride home.  It will pick you up at the south end of circle drive by the flag pole.  This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.

Anyone interested in Ski Club for the 2018 season needs to see Mrs. Clark in room 2280.  Forms and money are due by FRIDAY.

ATTENTION ALL SRT CLASSES:  We will have a competition between all of the SRT’s to see who can collect the most bottle caps.  Starting this week, there will be bins in each SRT classroom and the caps will be collected every week. The winning SRT with the most caps will get HOMEMADE CINNAMON ROLLS or a PIZZA PARTY!  The competition will end before Spring Break.  If we collect 400 pounds as a school, we will be able to recycle them into a park bench.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity to save the environment and win a prize!  If you would like to collect or sort caps during SRT contact Mrs. Swihart in room 2200 or email her at cswihart@staff.goshenschools.org.  It will count for NHS volunteer hours and it looks great on college applications!

Just a reminder that if you are coming to see Ms. Tovar we have a new procedure.  You need to check in with the staff in the main office and fill out a request to see her.  She will send a white pass for you as she has time.  Please do not cut through the nurse’s office to get to her.  You need to enter through the main office.

Please stop by the commons area (either by the cafeteria or outside the main office) during lunch if you are interested is speaking to the following:

  • Stay Tuned

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

The Student Athletic Advisory Council meeting has been rescheduled for TOMORROW during the 2nd session of SRT in the main gym.  Christmas cookies will be available and we will start planning for Unified Track & Field.  All kids interested in being Unified Track & Field partners in the spring are welcome to attend to participate in the leadership activities.   Also, we are trying to see if there is interest in the RedHawks putting together a team for the Unified Bowling Championship in January.  If any students are interested in finding out more information on this, please join us for Student Athletic Council.

Do you think you’re smart enough, and want to prove it to the world?  Then come on out for the Academic Super Bowl 2018 Team!  The Social Studies squad is currently looking for new members to join our battle hardened veterans in the white-knuckled thrill of academic one-upmenship.  This year’s theme is World War I, which is far more accessible and interesting than last year’s debacle, The French Revolution.  The time commitment is minimal, and the fun is immeasurable.  There will be a callout meeting TOMORROW during the 2nd session of SRT in Mr. Gardner’s room, 2380.  There will be candy!
