GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 30, 2016                                 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Picture retakes are on September 8th.

Junior student-athletes who have signed up for the Be the Best Leadership workshop today are to report directly to the auditorium to start your day.  Please be there with a writing utensil ready to go by 8:25 a.m. at the very latest.  Thank you!

The Student Faculty Senate meets the first Thursday of each month in the media center.  All club sponsors are expected to attend.  All clubs are to have student representatives attend at least once/semester.  The first meeting of the year will be this Thursday from 7:45-8:15 a.m.  This group approves all fundraisers and new clubs/groups.  See Mr. Kissinger if you have any questions.

Are you a junior or senior who is overwhelmed by the college process or doesn’t have any plans after high school?  If you’ll be the first in your family to go to college, join Ms. Gomez (our new College Prep Coach) TOMORROW at 3:40 p.m. in the cafeteria for information on college readiness and preparation.  Ms. Gomez is prepared to help you apply for schools and scholarships, understand FAFSA and financial aid, find schools that have your major or career interest, and guide and support you along the way.

Students, if you are driving to school you must get a parking tag.  Officer Johnson has started checking vehicles in the parking lot.  Bring your license, current registration, current insurance and $5 to Mrs. Haney, the bookkeeper.

REMINDER: You can buy the 2016-2017 yearbook online at www.herffjones.com for $45, but the price will increase September 5th.  Get yours today!

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field.  If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Mr. Brubaker, Lucas Kauffman, or Mrs. Stealy in the main office.  The paperwork should be turned in to Lucas Kauffman the first time you attend.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

The German Club will meet TODAY during the 2nd session of SRT in Whiteman.

The first French Club meeting for the 2016-17 school year will be held TODAY during the 2nd session of SRT in room 2430.

The Multicultural Youth Alliance will have their first call-out meeting TODAY during the 2nd session of SRT in the main gym.  This is open to everyone!

The Student-Athletic Council meets the 1st Thursday of each month during the 2nd session of SRT in the main gym.  All junior and senior student athletes are encouraged to attend to take part in leadership activities facilitated by Mr. Krebs and Mr. Kissinger, to support the GHS Unified Track & Field team, and to make suggestions on improving the GHS athletic program.  Come down to the main gym this Thursday to see what it’s all about.

Key Club will meet in the cafeteria on Thursday during the 2nd session of SRT.  All new and current members should plan to attend.  Membership applications can be picked up in the Guidance Office, and are due at the meeting along with a membership fee of $18.  Cash or checks (made payable to GHS Key Club) will be accepted.  Please contact Mrs. Dillman if you have any questions.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The boys JV soccer team defeated Northridge 1-0.  Goshen goal scorer: Eduardo Rodriguez Goshen assists: Kevin Cruz

The Goshen JV football team lost to Elkhart Central, 51-0.  Thad Hershberger had an interception.  Hewitt Nafziger was the leading receiver.  Noah Shively was the leading tackler.

The Goshen Lady RedHawks battled Conference opponents, mosquitoes and illness Monday evening at Christiana Creek Country Club in Elkhart.  Short one girl before they left for this NLC match, three more were not able to finish due to illness.  Before the night was over, there were only four girls playing for Goshen.  Those four played well enough though for the Lady RedHawks to post their first victory of the season.  They beat Elkhart Memorial 243-244.  The girls were led by steady Olivia Thomas and her 53 followed by Grace Hernley’s 56 and Olivia Lehr’s 57.  They lost to Concord 190-243.

The girls varsity volleyball team defeated LaVille 3-0.

The girls JV volleyball team defeated LaVille 2-1.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The boys JV and varsity tennis teams will play at Warsaw at 5:00 p.m.

The girls JV and varsity soccer teams play at Warsaw.  JV starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:15 p.m.

The boys and girls JV and varsity cross country teams compete at Elkhart Memorial against Memorial and Northwood at 5:30 p.m.
