GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 2019 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The parent player meeting for softball, girls tennis, boys golf, and baseball is TONIGHT at 6:30 p.m. in Whiteman Gym.  All student athletes are expected to attend with a parent.

SENIORS: Do you need help completing the FAFSA?  GHS is offering an opportunity to get help filing your FAFSA from 6:00-8:00 p.m. TONIGHT in the cafeteria.  GHS is partnering with the INvestEd to offer this opportunity.  If you and your family plan to attend please stop in the Guidance Office to get a FAFSA Checklist so you know what to bring to complete the application.

All spring student athletes currently in their first sport at GHS ever, are to report to the cafeteria on Friday after school for a Be the Best workshop.  Please arrive by 3:45 p.m. (after snacks) with something to write with.  Do NOT get changed for your practice first.

Reminder to all wrestlers – You need to be at the school by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday to set up for our tournament. 

United For Success is a bilingual parent event in which parents are going to learn practical and simple games that support their student’s learning. The event is going to take place on Monday, March 18th from 6-8:00 p.m. in the Goshen High School cafeteria. Snacks, games, and community resources will be available for all. This is a free event. Join us and take home your prize! Conferencia para padres, Unidos para triunfar es una oportunidad para los padres de familia de poder aprender juegos prácticos y sencillos que apoyen el aprendizaje de sus hijos. El evento se llevara a cabo el lunes, 18 de marzo de 6-8pm en la cafetería de Goshen High School. Tendremos refrigerios, juegos e información de recursos en la comunidad disponibles para todos. Este es un evento gratuito. Acompáñenos!!!

Anyone interested in auditioning for the student-directed One Acts should leave their information on one of the sign-up sheets on the auditorium door in the music hall or outside of room 3210. If you have questions, please email ppobocik@staff.goshenschools.org. Auditions are at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19th and Wednesday, March 20th in the auditorium. No prior acting experience is necessary!

There are still open spots for the BLOOD DRIVE on Friday, March 22nd. Contact Mrs. Wohlford at cwohlford@staff.goshenschools.org or in room 3070 if you would like to donate. You must be 16 years old.

You could win a Starbucks gift card just for doing the word search puzzle at the Interra Credit Union RedHawks Branch. Stop by the kiosk to pick up your word search and make sure you return it just in time for Spring Break by Friday, March 22nd. Get all the details from Martha and Tricia at the RedHawks Branch. The winner will be announced on March 25th.

Attention Juniors & Seniors: You are invited to a Multicultural Showcase on Friday, March 29th at IUSB from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. If you are interested in the trip, please email Ms. Villalobos your name ASAP!

The Dee Watson Nursing Scholarship application is available in the guidance office.  You must be majoring in nursing to apply.

Important Information for Seniors – Nurse Wendy wants to make sure that you are aware that some immunization requirements have changed and you may need to update your vaccines before going to college.  Please email Nurse Wendy if you have any questions or are not sure if yours are up to date.  Currently we have just over 300 seniors who will need these shots before going to many colleges, universities, or trade schools.

It is that time of year again for the annual GHS Prom Dress Drive.  The purpose of this drive is to provide free dresses for students who want to go to the prom but may be in financial need.  We have several dresses in various styles and sizes to choose from.  If you are in need of a prom dress or if you wish to donate a gently used dress, please contact Mrs. Hershberger or Mrs. Shakley.  You may also ask your SRT teacher to help you get in contact with one of us.

It’s not too late – yearbooks are for sale for $45!  They can be purchased online at jostensyearbooks.com or you can bring your payment to Mrs. Long in room 1400 in the Whiteman wing/art area.

REMINDER: Any student driving needs to have a parking tag.  You can get this through Mrs. Haney in the Bookkeeper’s office.  You need to have a valid license, valid registration, valid proof of insurance (this means that none of these can be expired), and $5.  You don’t want to be the proud new owner of a big orange sticker. Officer Powell will be checking vehicles!

Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in the media center from 3:45-5:00 p.m. You must be in the media center by 3:50 p.m. in order to stay for this, and dismissal times are at 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. You are expected to exit the building through door FF, which is located by the stairs just down from the media center. A bus will be available around 5:10 p.m. if you need a ride home. This bus is for students who stay for after-hours help ONLY. It will pick you up at the south end of circle drive by the flag pole. This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.

If you need a coat for the winter or know someone who does, stop by the Goshen Schools Administration Building at 613 E. Purl St. from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. If you are unable to come during that time, call 971-4149 to arrange a time. We will be glad to help you!

Attention Seniors:  If you haven’t ordered your cap and gown yet, you can order online at https://highschool.herffjones.com.

You are under no circumstances allowed to lock your bike up to any fence or gate on school property. There has been a problem with students specifically doing this along the fence/gate to the soccer fields. If you continue to do this, your lock will be cut, and your bike will be removed. There are bike racks available, and they should be used. Thank you for your cooperation with this! Bajo ninguna circunstancia se permite que se aseguren las bicicletas a ninguna reja o puerta de sea propiedad de la escuela. Ya hubo un problema con los estudiantes que específicamente están haciendo esto a lo largo de la reja/puerta del campo de fútbol.  Si continúan haciendo esto, el candado será cortado, y la bici será quitada.  Hay bastidores para bicicletas disponibles para ser utilizados.  ¡Gracias por su cooperación con esto!

YOU MUST BE STAYING AFTER SCHOOL FOR SOMETHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS – The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school.  This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity.  Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner.  The cafeteria will stay open until 3:50 p.m. to hand out the snacks. All students picking up the healthy snack after school will need to eat their snack in the cafeteria.  We appreciate your cooperation with this adjustment that is mandated by the state of Indiana in order to continue this program.

After school, it is expected that all students exit the building by 3:50 p.m.  If you have an after school activity, you should report to the sponsor’s room responsible for that activity by 3:50 p.m. You are not to remain in the hallways or commons after 3:50 p.m.  Thank you for your cooperation with this request.

Free/reduced lunch forms are available in the bookkeeper’s office, in the cafeteria and in guidance. Please pick one up if you need it!

WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.

If you are a student that leaves the building at any time during normal school hours then you must have a sticker on your ID if it’s for a class (PACT, Building Trades, EACC, Merit, shortened schedules, Red Zone, internship, yearbook, etc.) that indicates that or a blue pass from the office indicating that you have permission to leave. Building Trades, EACC and Red Zone students are also required to sign out at the Welcome Center before leaving. You can get this sticker in the main office from Mrs. Wolfe or Mrs. Kuiper.

Just a reminder that if you are coming to see Ms. Tovar you need to check in with the staff in the main office and fill out a request to see her. She will send a white pass for you as she has time. Please do not cut through the nurse’s office to get to her. You need to enter through the main office.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Stay In Bounds Ambassadors will meet TODAY during the 2nd session of SRT in the main gym to plan for next week’s visits on excellence.  All Ambassadors must be in attendance.  Notify Mr. Kissinger if you have a conflict you feel is not avoidable.
