ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Congratulations to the Crimson Marching Band for an outstanding performance at their home show! The group placed 2nd out of 13 other high schools in attendance. The marching band will perform at the Concord Invitational this coming Saturday at 10:05 p.m. Tickets can purchased in the band office for $7. Exact change is appreciated.
There is a Culver’s Give Back Night TONIGHT from 5-8:00 p.m. A portion of the sales will go to benefit orchestra students. Hope to see you there!
It’s time to register for your IB exams! Please turn in your completed form to Mrs. Haney in the main office. Also, you don’t need to pay in full when you turn in the form. Please take care of this as soon as possible!
Juniors: Tuesday, September 17th, is the BE the Best Leadership Workshop on Conflict Resolution and Sportsmanship. All of you, regardless of the season of your sport, are strongly encouraged to attend if you signed up last week in the athletic office. The program starts at 8:25 a.m. in the auditorium and runs through SRT. You must be there all of 2nd period and both sessions of SRT.
We host unified flag football games tomorrow, 9/17, and next Monday, 9/23. Mr. Kissinger needs Student Athletic Council members to help with donation collections at the gate, running the chains, running the scoreboard, and to cheer on the team. The games start at 6:30 p.m. Gate and concession workers need to be there by 5:30 p.m. – everyone else by 6:15 p.m. Please email Mr. Kissinger at lkissinger@goshenschools.org or let him know at lunch TODAY if you can help at either of these events. Admission is free for these events. Please come see what it’s about!
Come see the Drama Club production of “Lend Me a Tenor”, a show about mistaken identities! Show times are Saturday, September 21st at 7:30 p.m. & Sunday, September 22nd at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.
Boys basketball will be working football concessions on Friday, September 27th. All boys planning to play basketball this season need to see Coach Wohlford to sign up to work that night.
IUSB will be here for on-site admissions on Thursday, October 10th from 9:00 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. Please sign up in the guidance office for a time slot. They will be giving away some $500 scholarships!
On-site admissions from Purdue Fort Wayne will be in the Guidance Office on Friday, October 11th from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please stop by Guidance and sign up for a time slot to meet with the admissions counselor. Please fill out the online application during College Go Week (September 23-29) and this will be FREE! The application needs to be filled out BEFORE you come for your meeting. If you have any questions, please stop in guidance and ask.

Key Club and Environmental Club are collecting caps for benches. We are trying to get enough for two benches. Please deliver CLEAN #2, 4 or 5 caps or lids to your SRT before October 31st. The SRT with the most caps/lids collected will receive pizza. The SRT that comes in 2nd will receive cookies. Please help our school have comfortable places to sit.
The 2018-2019 yearbooks have NOT arrived yet. Continue checking announcements to see when they’re delivered and where they can be picked up.
Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in room 1190 from 3:45-4:50 p.m. You must be in room 1190 by 3:50 p.m. in order to stay for this. You are expected to exit the building through door M where a bus will be available at 5:00 p.m. if you need a ride home. This bus is for students who stay for after-hours help ONLY. This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.
YOU MUST BE STAYING AFTER SCHOOL FOR SOMETHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS – The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school. This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity. Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner. The cafeteria will stay open until 3:50 p.m. to hand out the snacks. All students picking up the healthy snack after school will need to eat their snack in the cafeteria. We appreciate your cooperation with this adjustment that is mandated by the state of Indiana in order to continue this program. Student athletes are expected to get their snack immediately after school. They should change clothes for practice AFTER they get their snack.
REMINDER: Any student driving needs to have a parking tag. You can get this through Mrs. Haney in the Bookkeeper’s office. You need to have a valid license, valid registration, valid proof of insurance (this means that none of these can be expired), and $5. You don’t want to be the proud new owner of a big orange sticker.
You are under no circumstances allowed to lock your bike up to any fence or gate on school property. There has been a problem with students specifically doing this along the fence/gate to the soccer fields. If you continue to do this, your lock will be cut, and your bike will be removed. There are bike racks available, and they should be used. Thank you for your cooperation with this!
After school, it is expected that all students exit the building by 3:50 p.m. If you have an after school activity, you should report to the sponsor’s room responsible for that activity by 3:50 p.m. You are not to remain in the hallways or commons after 3:50 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation with this request.
Free/reduced lunch forms are available in the bookkeeper’s office, in the cafeteria and in guidance. Please pick one up if you need it!
WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.
If you are a student that leaves the building at any time during normal school hours then you must have a sticker on your ID if it’s for a class (PACT, Building Trades, EACC, Merit, shortened schedules, Red Zone, internship, yearbook, etc.) that indicates that or a blue pass from the office indicating that you have permission to leave. GTV and Red Zone students are also required to sign out at the Welcome Center before leaving. You can get this sticker in the main office from Mrs. Wolfe or Mrs. Kuiper.
Just a reminder that if you are coming to see Ms. Tovar you need to check in with the staff in the main office and fill out a request to see her. She will send a white pass for you as she has time. Please do not cut through the nurse’s office to get to her. You need to enter through the main office.
MEETINGS DURING SRT:
Juniors and Seniors: The first Stay In Bounds Ambassador meeting of the year is Thursday, September 19th during the 2nd session of SRT. All senior ambassadors should notify Mr. Kissinger this week if you do not plan to be an ambassador this year. Interested juniors can email him if you would like to be considered for this role.
Creative Writing Club will meet this Thursday during the 2nd session of SRT in room 2430. Our focus for the year is “Setting” and we would love to hear what you have been working on this past month. See you soon!
The GHS Book Club will be reading Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card for their October 10th meeting. Students and staff will meet during the 2nd session of SRT to discuss the book with yummy snacks! Get your own copy of the book or come to room 3180 to check one out from GHS. Contact Mr. De Kleine, Emily Brugh, or Noemi Vela with further questions or to be included on the e-mail list.
SPORTS SCORES:
Boys varsity tennis narrowly fell 2-3 to Fairfield Friday night. Ryan Harmelink and Carlos Lichty at 1 & 2 Singles were able to pull out their 3-setters. The JV team also narrowly lost, but got wins from Andy Eby, Blaine Miller, Joel Byler, Henric Hathaway, and Soroosh Kermani.
The boys and girls cross country teams competed at the County Clash Invitational Saturday morning. The boys varsity team took 2nd place as Drew Hogan led the team placing 4th. He was followed by Cole Johnston 8th, Tommy Claxton 10th, Ryan Diaz 14th, Adrian Mora 32nd, Isacco D’eila 42nd, and Tyler Wiese 63rd. The boys JV team placed 6th led by Jocsan Barahona 29th, followed by Isaiah Dilworth 33rd, David Dominguez 35th, Oliver Biek 37th, Levi Graber 41st, Seth Kauffman 44th, and Simon Hertzler 45th. On the girls side, the varsity team was 10th led by Sophia Yordy 11th, followed by Sophia Koshmider 29th, Celest Arroyo 57th, Kassidy Bestul 68th, Mara Schrock 75th, and Julie Walton Clark 81st. The JV girls took 2nd place led by Lauren Kauffman 11th, followed by Morgan Chupp 17th, Lindsey Daniels 18th, Yessie Castillo 21st, Rylee Weishaupt 26th, Hazany Palomino 35th, and Sarai Flores.
Boys tennis lost at East Noble Saturday by a score of 2-3. Ryan Harmelink at 1 Singles and the 1 Doubles pair of Carter Schmucker & Brenton Pham prevailed in straight sets.
The boys varsity soccer team traveled to the Penn soccer tournament, and played two tough games against the Crown Point Bulldogs and the Fort Wayne Carroll Chargers, but ended up losing both games. The RedHawks lost to the Bulldogs by a score of 1-2, and the Chargers by a score of 0-1. Nehemias Gallegos scored the goal in the game against Crown Point. The losses put the RedHawks overall record at 5-4, and 3-1 in the NLC.
Boys JV soccer played two games at the Penn Boys Soccer Tournament. Goshen beat Crown Point 2-1. Goshen goal scorers were Alejandro Pedroza and Josh Cruz. Goshen beat Carroll 4-1. Goshen goal scorers were Carlos Casteneda (3) and Josh Cruz. Edgar Mora Gonzalez had an assist. Goshen is now 7-0-2 and 2-0-2 in conference.
Girls varsity golf took on their NLC competition Saturday at Stonehenge golf course. The biggest highlight of the day was freshman, Briza Tayagua-Delgado and her Plymouth opponent, playing the 18 hole round in three hours and 45 minutes, all while Briza got a par on the last two holes, number 18 being a 481 yard par five. The RedHawks fell short of Plymouth by 30 strokes, with a 427. Northwood placed 1st with a 317. Our low scores for the day were Maya Narayan with a 103, McKenna Cripe with a 107, and Briza Tayagua-Delgado with a 108.
Boys varsity football lost to the Northwood Panthers 55-7. Leading the offense for the RedHawks was Wesley VanHooser. He ran for 55 yards and a touchdown. Drew Worthman also contributed 41 yards rushing. Defensively for the RedHawks, Wesley VanHooser had ten tackles. Roman Schrock had eight tackles and Colin Vidmar had seven.
The boys JV tennis team competed at the Plymouth Invitational on Saturday. Josiah Penner, Kaden Priebe, Blaine Miller, Wyatt Hernley, and Aidan Ebright Zehr all got wins on the day.

Boys JV and varsity tennis will host South Bend St. Joe at 5:00 p.m.
Girls JV and varsity golf will host Fairfield and Mishawaka Marian at Black Squirrel at 5:00 p.m.
Girls soccer will host Westview. JV plays at 5:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 6:45 p.m.
Boys JV football will host Northwood at 6:00 p.m.
Girls volleyball will play at Elkhart Christian Academy. JV starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:00 p.m.
Boys C team soccer will play at Elkhart Central at 6:30 p.m.
