GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2016                                  

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

REMINDER:  If you were invited to attend the Rotary luncheon, please make sure that you get your information sheets to Mrs. Stealy in the main office THIS WEEK.

GHS Choirs will perform their first concert of the school year tonight at 7:30 p.m.  This concert will feature all choirs and a variety of selections.  The concert will conclude with all choral groups combining to sing a medley from the Broadway Show  “Big River”.  Tickets are available at the door for $3 each.

Beginning after Fall Break, we will no longer be issuing Temporary IDs.  Every student must be wearing a plastic ID card at all times.  New cards will be sold for $1 each.  If you do not have $1, your name will be added to a list.  You will still be responsible for paying that $1 within a week of receiving it to Mrs. Wolfe in the Main Office, otherwise you must serve a detention.  Mrs. Wolfe will notify those students who have not paid for their ID’s the day before their scheduled detention.  Lanyards will still be $1 if they wish to purchase one.  If not, your ID will be given to you on a piece of string.

Varsity boys soccer players:  Today’s meeting will take place out in the team room at 4:00 p.m.  Please bring a pen or pencil to the meeting.

All marching band members are reminded about rehearsal right after school today from 3:35-6:30 p.m.

On Thursday, the volleyball team hosts West Noble for Fan Appreciation Night and Senior Night.  Our seniors will be honored before the varsity game and all student fans in attendance will be offered two free slices of pizza between games 1 and 2 of the varsity match.

Congratulations to the Crimson Marching Band for placing 2nd and taking the best visual caption this past weekend at the Elkhart Memorial Marching Band Invitational.  The band and guard start ISSMA State Qualifying this weekend at Lafayette.  Best of luck to each student!

In order to be able to vote in this year’s election, you must:

  1. Be at least 18 years old on or before November 8th, 2016
  2. Be a United States citizen
  3. Have lived in your current precinct for at least 30 days
  4. Not currently be in prison after being convicted of a crime

Do you want to experience being a college student for a day?  Sign up for a visit to Goshen College on November 4th.  Permission slips are located from Ms. Gomez in room 2370 or from Ms. Tovar in the main office and are due by Friday!  Limited space is available.  Students will be picked on a first come, first serve basis with priority to juniors and seniors.

Super Mileage Club will meet from 3:40-5:00 p.m. TOMORROW and on October 25th.  We will not meet on October 18th during fall break.

GHS will host a Red Cross blood drive Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the main gym.  Thank you to all who have signed up to donate.  Please check your email for important reminders.

Reminder:  IB students, please get your registration forms completed and returned to the bookkeeper in the main office.

We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month through Friday!  There will be a small exposition in the Commons area with detailed posters appreciating and recognizing each Hispanic country’s culture, traditional foods, geographical landmarks and more!  Be sure to stop by and learn something new!

If you missed Herff Jones, they will return Thursday morning from 7:45-8:15 a.m. to take cap and gown/graduation orders.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field.  If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Mr. Brubaker, Lucas Kauffman, or Mrs. Stealy in the main office.  The paperwork should be turned in to Lucas Kauffman the first time you attend.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

We will have a meeting TOMORROW during the 2nd session of SRT on the upper deck of the main gym for any boy interested in wrestling this year.  If you plan on wrestling and cannot make the meeting please see Coach Pickard prior to Tuesday.

There will be a meeting TOMORROW for all girls who plan to try out for basketball during the 2nd session of SRT in the main gym.  Players in fall sports should plan to attend this meeting as well in order to pick up a practice schedule and other tryout information.  Please see Coach Krebs if you have any questions.

Stay in Bounds Ambassadors will meet Thursday during the 2nd session of SRT in the main gym.  This is a mandatory meeting that all ambassadors must attend…no exceptions, as we are making our final plans for October visits the week after fall break.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The boys varsity football team beat the Plymouth Rockies, 7-2.

The boys JV football team lost to the Plymouth Rockies, 22-14.  Drew Marlow had one rushing touchdown.  Hewitt Nafziger had one touchdown reception thrown by Conner Kulp.  Kaleb Nine had a 2 point conversion reception thrown by Conner Kulp.  Nate Galloway had one quarterback sack.  Will Koshmeider, Preston Hershberger and James Troyer all recovered fumbles.

The girls JV volleyball team lost to Jimtown 0-2 and to South Bend Adams 0-2.

The girls soccer team secured the first sectional championship as RedHawks Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Northridge.  In a close battle all afternoon an Aniya Hartzler free kick with three minutes left in the game was the difference.  Goshen’s defense secured their 3rd consecutive shutout in sectional play with another outstanding performance from keeper Kassandra Rodriguez who broke a school record for saves in a game with 18 saves.  The GHS girls are now 14-3-2 and have a chance to play in their own Regional Wednesday night.  The girls will take on St. Joseph High at 5:30 p.m.  Don’t miss another great soccer Regional battle on the GHS campus!

The boys varsity soccer team lost to Concord 3-1 in the sectional final.  The goal scorer for GHS was Lucas Bontreger.
