ANNOUNCEMENTS:

WORK PERMITS:  When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit.

REMINDER FROM THE CAFETERIA:  You are no longer able to charge to your lunch account.

Reminder for Graduates of 2017:  Your school Gmail account will be closed soon after graduation…..probably by August.  If you want to save any files out of your Google Drive or Gmail you will need to copy or move those before August.

Congratulations to the Goshen Wind Ensemble on a musical performance this past weekend at the ISSMA State Concert Band Finals in Indianapolis!  The band placed 5th, which ties our highest finish ever at the Concert Band State Finals.  Each student is to be congratulated on this memorable accomplishment!

This year is the first year that summer PE will be offered to high school students.  You have until May 26th to enroll.  Summer PE runs from June 5th through the 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The cost to enroll is $80.  Students must provide their own transportation.

The good news:  Next year students from GHS will be visiting Italy and Spain over Spring Break.  The better news is that there is still room for a few more adventurers!  If you will be a junior or senior next year, and you’re interested in exploring the Vatican as well as the streets of Rome, Florence and Barcelona, see Mr. Zuber in room 8080 for more information.

MasterBrand Cabinets will be at the Elkhart County Job & Internship Fair on May 16th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the RV/MH Hall of Fame.  Graduating seniors are invited to attend!

Please join us for ADEC’s Walk, Run or Ride a Bike on May 20th at 7:30 a.m. at Northridge High School.  You can register online at www.adecinc.com/bike.  On-site registration is also available.  The ride starts at 9:00 a.m.  Ride, walk or run and raise funds to support people with disabilities in Elkhart County!  The fee is $30 for adults and $15 for youth.  This year we are pitting local students against each other for a chance to win cash for their school.  The school with the highest participation rate will receive $500 to be used on its fitness program.  Simply register online as a “youth” participant.  When you pick up your packet you will find a ticket to cast your vote for your school.  May the best school win!

All boys interested in playing boys basketball next season need to be present for a meeting before school TOMORROW morning at 8:00 a.m. in Mr. Wohlford’s classroom, 2310.  We will discuss our summer schedule at this meeting.  Please see Coach Wohlford if you cannot make the meeting tomorrow morning.

The Goshen Unit of the Boys & Girls Club of Elkhart County has operated in four different sites this school year – Grace Community Church, First Baptist Church, Chamberlain Elementary School and North Goshen Mennonite Church.  We thank you all for your assistance and patience during this process!  We will begin our summer programs on June 12th in a beautiful, newly renovated and much larger club!  To give our staff time to prepare the newly remodeled club for summer programs we will end our school year programs on May 12th.  You are all welcome to join us in celebrating our opening during our Community Open House on June 10th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at 306 Crescent St. in Goshen.  If you have any question feel free to call our office at 533-4793.  Thank you so much for your assistance and cooperation during the clubs transitional period!

Prom tickets are on sale now during all lunches!  Sale dates are Tuesday-Friday of this week.  Morning ticket sales will be on May 12th from 7:45-8:15 a.m. Tickets are $40 each and will increase to $45 starting TOMORROW.

Seniors:  If you still need to order a cap and gown you can visit their web site at www.highschool.herffjones.com to place your order.  If you ordered items and missed the cap & gown delivery day, please contact Mrs. Gardner to make arrangements to pick up your items.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field.  If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Mr. Brubaker or from Lucas Kauffman.  The paperwork should be turned in to Lucas Kauffman the first time you attend.

It’s time for the annual GHS Prom Dress Drive!  This purpose of this drive is to provide free dresses for students who want to go to the prom but may be in financial need.  We have several dresses in various styles and sizes to choose from.  If you are in need of a prom dress or if you wish to donate a gently used dress, please contact Mrs. Hershberger or Mrs. Shakley.  You may also ask your SRT teacher for more information.

Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in the media center from 3:45-5:00 p.m.  A bus will be available around 5:20 p.m. if you need a ride home.  It will pick you up at door M.  This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

TOMORROW during the 2nd session of SRT anyone interested in information about the new “Shinning Voice Club” can meet in the cafeteria.

There will be a boys tennis meeting TOMORROW in Whiteman gym during the 2nd session of SRT. We will discuss off-season opportunities and expectations for the summer and for the rest of the spring.  All players hoping to play next fall should attend.

Any boy interested in playing football in the fall should attend a call out meeting TOMORROW during the 2nd session of SRT in the auditorium.  Updated calendars will be passed out, expectations will be laid out and we will go over some important info regarding the summer.  Please plan to attend!

All juniors need to attend a class meeting TOMORROW in the auditorium during the 1st session of SRT.  This meeting will be to discuss an opportunity you have to earn a Work Ethic Certification during your senior year.  The Work Ethic Certification is a county wide initiative to promote attendance, good behavior and civic duty amongst all senior students.  Other expectations will be discussed as you embark on your senior year!  Please report to SRT first to take attendance, and then your teacher will escort you down.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The boys varsity baseball team defeated Warsaw 3-0.  Joey Peebles threw a complete game, three hit shutout on 87 pitches.  Michael Pinarski singled, doubled and homered for the RedHawks.  Charlie Collins and Austin Bontrager each chipped in with two hits apiece.

A short-handed girls tennis team fell to Fairfield Friday night.  Lineth Alvarez won at 2 singles and the 1 Doubles duo of Claire Penner and Elsie Koop Liechty fought to a 3rd set, but came up short.  JV came away with a 3-3 tie thanks to victories from Katia Gutierrez, Sophia Kirkton, Sage Christner, Courtney Sloop and Sophia Kellenberger.

The boys JV baseball team dropped an NLC matchup against conference leading Warsaw High School with a final score of 11-1.  Joseph Good and Jack Immel led the RedHawk offense.  Good had two hits and Immel recorded a double.

The JV softball team defeated Warsaw 2-1.  Grace Vance threw her first no hitter with nine strike outs.  She also added two hits with one RBI, while Alexis Navarro added two hits.  Sarai Rodriguez also added a hit and one RBI.

The girls varsity softball team out hit the Warsaw Tigers 12-7, but just made too many mistakes on defense.  Jordan Nemeth had three hits with a double and a homerun while adding three RBI’s.  Kate Atkinson, AnaMaria Ramirez and Ashton Darnell all had two hits apiece.

The boys JV golf team competed at the Warsaw JV Invitational in Warsaw.  The team was led by Derrick Stotts with a 119, Joseph Narayan 124, Ben Yonts 138, Zack Barker 145 and Zane Barker 161.

The boys varsity golf team competed in the Concord Invitational and shot a team score of 427.  The RedHawks were led by Peyton Cripe with a 99.  William Troyer shot 101, Jake Jennette 108, Ben Schneider 119 and Gabe Yoder 125.

The boys varsity baseball team lost to the Warriors in a back and forth game Saturday morning. Robbie Riegsecker’s two run homerun in the 5th tied the score at 3 and a Trenton Scott pinch hit, two out, RBI single gave the RedHawks the lead, but lead off walks in both the 6th and 7th innings scored and the final score was 9-6.  Austin Cain started and was relieved by Philip Wertz, Chase Knoblock and Eric Newell.  Charlie Collins had two singles and Robbie Riegsecker had a single to go with his homerun to lead the offense.

Goshen held off Northridge to claim the title of the Kelly Relays for the 5th time in a row. Goshen once again started off strong in the field events, winning the shot put, discus and high jump relays. The JV girls tennis team competed at the Warsaw invitational on Saturday.  Sage Christner and Sophia Kirkton went 2-1 at 1 Doubles.

The boys JV baseball team and Westview passed the lead back-and-forth on Saturday, but eventually Westview prevailed 9-7.  The RedHawks collected seven hits, but unfortunately could not overcome the defensive errors.  Drew Marlow and Eric Newell each collected two hits for the RedHawks in the loss.

The girls track team tied for 2nd place at the Goshen Relays on Saturday. Goshen was led by a 1st place finish in the Hurdle Shuttle Relay (Monse Rodriguez, Kyrah Fletcher, Kayleigh McKee, Jillian Kissinger), 2nd place finishes in the Shot Put Relay (Kassandra Rodriguez, Suzette Rodriguez, Berenice Rodriguez) and Discus Relay (Kassandra Rodriguez, Suzette Rodriguez, Riley Martin), and 3rd place finishes by the Distance Medley Relay (Kirsten Graves, Kassandra Rodriguez, Jocelyn Valderrama, Ariana Perez Diener), 4×400 Relay (Brandi Smith, Alayna Yoder, Kyrah Fletcher, Jillian Kissinger), 4×200 Relay (Morgan Chupp, Mikayla Burkhead, Alondra Sanchez, Alexia Chacon Reina), 4×800 Relay (Ariana Perez Diener, Kirsten Graves, Yadira Sanchez, Jocelyn Valderrama), and Pole Vault Relay (Kayleigh McKee and Mikayla Burkhead).
