ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Students who did not pick up senior products last week will have one additional chance. Jostens will return tomorrow from 7:45-8:25 a.m. Once again only cash or money orders will be accepted as payment. Congratulations to the GHS Wind Ensemble for qualifying for the Indiana State Concert Band Finals! They will perform this Saturday in Indianapolis at 10:15 a.m.
Key Club would like to thank all of the staff and students who donated soaps and shampoos for Riley Hospital. In total, 334 items were collected for the families of patients. Thanks for your support!
Students who plan on attending Merit summer school: Enrollment begins TODAY and will continue until spots are filled. Sessions will run Monday, June 6th thru Thursday, June 30th. You must attend ALL sessions until your class is complete. Morning or afternoon sessions are available. The cost is $50, and you will only be able to complete one class. You must meet with your Guidance counselor to do the on-line enrollment. A bill for payment will be emailed to you. Information forms are now available in the Guidance office, so don’t delay!
The 2017 Distinguished Young Woman of Elkhart Scholarship program awards over $13,000 in cash and college scholarships. Any junior girl from the class of 2017, who has plans for college, is eligible. For more information, please stop by and talk to a representative tomorrow during all lunch periods in the commons area. See Mrs. Kroening in Guidance for more information.
Attention Juniors and Seniors: Prom tickets are now on sale during lunches Tuesday-Friday through May 13th for $35 each, payable by cash or check. The price will increase to $45 the week of prom, so get your tickets now!
The Animal Aid Clinic South has openings for part-time kennel attendants. The position entails a lot of cleaning, but also provides an opportunity for education in patient restraint, medication administration, etc. This is a great “foot in the door” opportunity for any student interested in a career in veterinary medicine. Kennel attendants work 2-3 days per week, including holidays and weekends. Those interested can drop by the Animal Aid Clinic South and fill out an application, or can contact Dr. Stacey Dean at animalaidclinicsouth@gmail.com.
The guidance office has just received the Elkhart County Farm Bureau Scholarship. Stop in for an application.

After hours homework help for any class is now available! On Mondays and Wednesdays you can meet in the media center after school until 5:00 p.m.
The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Lucas Kauffman, Mr. Brubaker, Mr. Snyder in the choir office or from Mrs. Stealy in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.
MEETINGS DURING SRT:
All students possibly interested in IB/AP art may attend a call out meeting tomorrow during the 2nd session of SRT in room 1450. We will be addressing exactly what IB and AP art are, students will speak about the class and we will show examples of finished work.
The final Key Club meeting will be on Thursday during the 2nd session of SRT.
Calling all GHS girls! The girls golf team begins a new dynasty this fall with a new name and a new head coach, Greg Hire. There will be an informational meeting for all interested girls on Tuesday, May 10th during the 2nd session of SRT on the main gym balcony.
SPORTS SCORES:
The JV boys baseball team won their 2nd straight NLC game defeating Wawsee 14-2 on Friday night. Jacob Haimes got the win allowing only three hits in five innings pitched. Trenton Scott went 3-3 with two doubles. Tyler Colpitts hit his 2nd home run of the season and Braxton Kincaid also added a double for the RedHawks.
The boys varsity baseball team lost to Wawasee 2-0. Philip Wertz and Charlie Collins both had two hits.
The girls varsity softball team lost to Wawasee 0-9 to go 3-3 in the NLC.
The boys track team won the John Reed Relays held at East Noble High School on Saturday. Team scores: Goshen 133, Columbia City 85, Lakeland 85, East Noble 65, Dekalb 67.5, Wawasee 51 & Ft. The boys varsity golf participated in the annual Wawasee Invitational at South Shore GC in Syracuse. Goshen posted a team score of 394. Homestead HS won the invite with a team score of 301. Senior Matt Truex and sophomore Peyton Cripe led the RedHawks with 90s. Junior Taylor Cordell shot 104. Junior William Troyer had a career best 110 and Junior Will Gaby shot 140.
The boys varsity baseball team lost to Dekalb 12-10. James Paetkau was the winning pitcher with Andrew Weddle providing an inning of relief and Conner Glick a two inning save. Michael Pinarski was 3-4 with a HR and a double. Paetkau homered and doubled as well.
The boys baseball C team lost to Plymouth 14-3. Drew Marlow had a hit and Nick Horner played some solid emergency 2nd base.
The girls track team placed 3rd as a team at the John Reed Relays at East Noble High School. They were led by Jill Kissinger’s 2nd place finish in the 100m Hurdles, Douchee Nozile’s 7th place finish in the 100m dash, a 3rd place finish in the 4×100 (Douchee Nozile, Morelia Capuchino Diaz, Brandi Smith, Mikayla Burkhead), a 3rd place finish in the 4×800 (Jill Kissinger, Maggie Gallagher, Hannah Kurtz, Nora Rangel), Monse Rodriguez’s 4th place finish in the High Jump, Kim Ground’s 1st place finish in the Pole Vault, and Kassandra Rodriguez’s 4th place finish in shot put.
The girls JV softball improved to 8-6 (3-2) on the season by defeating the Wawasee Warriors by a score of 10-3. Nicole Abbs was the winning pitcher once again for the RedHawks. The bats struggled early but the RedHawks made some great plays defensively including a 6-4-3 double play courtesy of Sara Breniser and Josie Walters. Shelby Yoder and Nicole Abbs each had two hits for the RedHawks.
IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:
The girls varsity softball team will host Northwood at 5:00 p.m. The JV game has been canceled.
The boys JV and varsity baseball teams will play at Northwood at 5:00 p.m.
