GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 21, 2017                                 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.

Attention Students:  Herff Jones will be here on Wednesday, August 30^th during lunch and after school until 6:00 p.m, to take Class Rings orders for any grade, and for Senior orders for caps and gowns, graduation announcements, and other senior items. Extra packets are available in the main office.

Picture retakes will be on September 8^th! Picture retake forms are available in the Main Office from Mrs. Wolfe if you did not have your picture taken the first day of school. If you did have your pictures taken and you want retakes, you need to bring your other pictures back in to the photographer. Even if you are NOT ordering pictures, if you missed picture day on the first day you MUST get your picture taken!

Just a reminder that if you are coming to see Ms. Tovar you need to check in with the staff in the main office. Please do not cut through the nurse’s office to get there.

Maple City Bowl will host tryouts for the RedHawk girls and boys bowling teams on Tuesday, September 5^th from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Any questions may be directed to girls coach Terry Kercher at 534-7790.

The Maple City Multicultural Festival will be held on Saturday, August 26^th from noon-6:00 p.m. at Rogers Park. There will be food, music, a scavenger hunt for grades K-5 and basketball skills clinics for K-adult. Please join us for what is sure to be a day of fun!

REMINDER: If you ride a bus, please remember that you are to exit the building out of the doors that face circle drive (the old main entrance doors or the athletic lobby doors) and get to your bus ASAP. The buses leave 5 minutes after the dismissal bell rings and they will NOT wait.

Any student driving needs to have a parking tag. You can get this through Mrs. Haney in the Bookkeeper’s office. You need to have a valid license, registration, proof of insurance and $5. OJ will start tagging vehicles without parking permits next week, so DON’T delay!

The Teen Health Club meeting is postponed until Thursday, September 21^st in The Guidance Office conference room. Wendy Cornell is out on maternity leave and we need a few weeks to get things in place. If you are interested in a health career or healthy life choices, please plan to attend next month and invite others to join us.

Fall play auditions for All Because of Agatha will be held on Thursday in the auditorium at 3:45 p.m.

The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school.  This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity.  Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner.  The cafeteria will stay open until 3:55 p.m. to hand out the snacks.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club will meet every weather permitting Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field across from door M. You can pick up required papers from Lucas Kauffman, Mr. Snyder in the choir office or Mrs. Stealy in the main office. All required papers need to be turned in to Lucas Kauffman by the first time you play.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

The Goshen Community Schools’ drug testing policy requires that students attend a drug education session on an annual basis.  We will use the following schedule to accomplish this requirement during SRT periods.

• 1^st session of SRT on Tuesday:  All sophomores.
• 2^nd session of SRT on Tuesday:  All juniors.

Students will report to SRT before 1^st session each day.  Juniors will report to the auditorium directly from wherever they spent 1^st session on Tuesday. Any awesome cheer ideas?  See Mr. Kissinger!  Ra ra ree.

Attention, Freshmen!  Key Club will have a call out meeting on Tuesday during the 2^nd session of SRT.  If you would like to learn what Key Club is all about, join us in the cafeteria.  Attendance will be taken there.

Attention Softball Players: There will be an informational meeting Thursday for all players during the 2^nd session of SRT in the main gym.  Please attend if you are thinking about playing softball in the spring.

French Club will hold its first meeting of the school year this month on Thursday, August 31^st during the 2^nd session of SRT in room 2430. The club is still looking for a freshman representative, junior representative and a secretary. If you are interested in any of those positions please contact Miss Mack before Friday, September 8^th.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The varsity football team lost to Fairfield 19-0.

The varsity tennis team won the Goshen Round Robin without losing a single match on Saturday. Simon Myers had 2 bagels, which means he won 24 games while losing 0. Austin Peeler, Carlos Lichty, Drake Crowder and Josh Haimes also bageled their opponent. Ryan Harmelink dropped only one game in his two matches, including at #1 Singles.

The RedHawk cross country teams competed at the ECA Hokum-Karem Saturday. The girls team placed 5^th and was led by Kayleigh McKee and Yadira Sanchez’s 9^th place finish. Sydney Pener and Elena Meyer-Reimer placed 14^th, Kassidy Bestul and Julie Walton Clark 16^th and Abigail Garcia and Morgan Chupp 18^th. The boys team finished 4^th and was led by Jason Barahona and Felix Perez-Diener who placed 9^th, Sam Miller and Chris Sanchez placed 17^th, Griffin Hetler and Jonathon Snyder 19^th and Jocsan Barahona and Shawn Gulec 21^st.

The boys varsity soccer team defeated West Noble in a classic, non-conference rivalry, 7-1. Goals for Goshen were: Ciro Aguilar (1), Lucas Bontreger (3), Alex Martinez (1), Junior Argueta (1), and Ricardo Vargas Ortiz (1). Assists for Goshen were: Chris Garcia (1), Ciro Aguilar (1), Alex Martinez (1), Junior Argueta (1), Marcos Hernandez (1), and Diego Loera (1).

The boys JV soccer team defeated West Noble 7-1. Goal Scorers for Goshen:  Eduardo Rodriguez (3), Chris Losano, Isaac Sensenig, Max Flores, Cruz Garcia. Assists for Goshen: Diego Romo, Max Flores, Franco Hernandez.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The boys JV and varsity tennis teams will play at Elkhart Central at 5:00 p.m.

The boys JV football team will host Fairfield at 6:00 p.m.
