The good news:  Next year students from GHS will be visiting Italy and Spain over Spring Break.  The better news is that there is still room for a few more adventurers!  If you will be a junior or senior next year, and you’re interested in exploring the Vatican as well as the streets of Rome, Florence and Barcelona, see Mr. Zuber in room 8080 for more information.

Are you taking the SAT Saturday morning?  If you are, don’t forget your calculator, #2 pencils and most importantly your College Board Admission Ticket and a photo ID.  Your school ID or your driver’s license will work.  Check in begins at 7:30 a.m., so plan to wake up early and eat a good breakfast.  Room assignments will be posted TOMORROW.

Please join us for ADEC’s Walk, Run or Ride a Bike on May 20th at 7:30 a.m. at Northridge High School.  You can register online at www.adecinc.com/bike.  On-site registration is also available.  The ride starts at 9:00 a.m.  Ride, walk or run and raise funds to support people with disabilities in Elkhart County!  The fee is $30 for adults and $15 for youth.  This year we are pitting local students against each other for a chance to win cash for their school.  The school with the highest participation rate will receive $500 to be used on its fitness program.  Simply register online as a “youth” participant.  When you pick up your packet you will find a ticket to cast your vote for your school.  May the best school win!

Any student interested in Quarterback training, please visit the athletic department for registration forms for the “Top Gun Quarterback Training”, which will be held at Foreman Field on Tuesday, May 9th, May 16th and May 23rd from 7-8:00 p.m.  This training is done by Coach Bill Reagan, former head college football coach and former Notre Dame football staff member.  Visit the athletic department this week for more details!

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week:  “Your next opponent doesn’t care about last week’s victory,” was a quote I read recently that makes so much sense.  It is so true.  In athletics, yesterday doesn’t matter near as much as tomorrow does.  Are you able to move on after a sweet win?  What about a tough loss?  Does it hang with you or are you able to brush it off after a couple of days?  It has been said that the best athletes have short term memory.  They don’t dwell on wins or losses or personal performance.  Instead, they concentrate on improvement and trying to get better every day.  There is no doubt that a well-earned victory can be satisfying and self-serving, but in most cases it is forgotten about shortly.  Successful players and coaches are always looking to the future and use the past as a gauge on how to make that successful!

A vote will be taken for the Goshen City Council Youth Advisor position on Tuesday, May 23rd.  If you are interested you MUST be a senior during the 2017-18 school year and you will be expected to attend at least one city council meeting per month (1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month starting at 7:00 p.m.).  The candidate will be elected by the GHS student body and will be non-partisan (no political party affiliation).  The voter registration office will be here to set up voting machines that will be used for the election.  Please see Mr. Weldy in room 2360 for information packets, questions and to find out when information is due.  PACKETS MUST BE PICKED UP THIS WEEK!

The Goshen Unit of the Boys & Girls Club of Elkhart County has operated in four different sites this school year – Grace Community Church, First Baptist Church, Chamberlain Elementary School and North Goshen Mennonite Church.  We thank you all for your assistance and patience during this process!  We will begin our summer programs on June 12th in a beautiful, newly renovated and much larger club!  To give our staff time to prepare the newly remodeled club for summer programs we will end our school year programs on May 12th.  You are all welcome to join us in celebrating our opening during our Community Open House on June 10th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at 306 Crescent St. in Goshen.  If you have any question feel free to call our office at 533-4793.  Thank you so much for your assistance and cooperation during the clubs transitional period!
