ANNOUNCEMENTS:
WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.
The Plymouth Ave. and Burdick Street railroad crossings will be closed starting TODAY. Please plan accordingly. ON MONDAY, the Jefferson Street and Beaver Lane railroad crossings will be closed.
Attention Students: Herff Jones will be here on Wednesday, August 30th during lunch and after school until 6:00 p.m, to take Class Rings orders for any grade, and for Senior orders for caps and gowns, graduation announcements, and other senior items. Extra packets are available in the main office.
Picture retakes will be on September 8th! Picture retake forms are available in the Main Office from Mrs. Wolfe if you did not have your picture taken the first day of school. If you did have your pictures taken and you want retakes, you need to bring your other pictures back in to the photographer. Even if you are NOT ordering pictures, if you missed picture day on the first day you MUST get your picture taken!
Just a reminder that if you are coming to see Ms. Tovar you need to check in with the staff in the main office. Please do not cut through the nurse’s office to get there.
The Maple City Multicultural Festival will be held on Saturday, August 26th from noon-6:00 p.m. at Rogers Park. There will be food, music, a scavenger hunt for grades K-5 and basketball skills clinics for K-adult. Please join us for what is sure to be a day of fun!
REMINDER: If you ride a bus, please remember that you are to exit the building out of the doors that face circle drive (the old main entrance doors or the athletic lobby doors) and get to your bus ASAP. The buses leave 5 minutes after the dismissal bell rings and they will NOT wait.
Any student driving needs to have a parking tag. You can get this through Mrs. Haney in the Bookkeeper’s office. You need to have a valid license, registration, proof of insurance and $5. OJ will start tagging vehicles without parking permits after next week, so DON’T delay!
The Teen Health Club meeting is postponed until Thursday, September 21st in The Guidance Office conference room. Wendy Cornell is out on maternity leave and we need a few weeks to get things in place. If you are interested in a health career or healthy life choices, please plan to attend next month and invite others to join us.
Universal Tamal is currently looking to hire a waitress/waiter. You must be 17 years old, speak both English and Spanish and be able to work a maximum of 20 hours per week. For more information please call 534-3736 or stop by in person at 225 S. Main St. in Goshen.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Fall play auditions for All Because of Agatha will now be held on Thursday, August 24th in the auditorium at 3:45 p.m.
The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school. This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity. Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner. The cafeteria will stay open until 3:55 p.m. to hand out the snacks.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club will meet every weather permitting Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field across from door M. You can pick up required papers from Lucas Kauffman, Mr. Snyder in the choir office or Mrs. Stealy in the main office. All required papers need to be turned in to Lucas Kauffman by the first time you play.
MEETINGS DURING SRT:
The Goshen Community Schools’ drug testing policy requires that students attend a drug education session on an annual basis. We will use the following schedule to accomplish this requirement during SRT periods.
- 1st session of SRT on 8/22/17: All sophomores.
- 2nd session of SRT on 8/22/17: All juniors.
Students will report to SRT before 1st session each day. Juniors will report to the auditorium directly from wherever they spent 1st session on 8/22. Any awesome cheer ideas? See Mr. Kissinger! Ra ra ree.
Attention, Freshmen! Key Club will have a call out meeting on Tuesday, August 22nd during the 2nd session of SRT. If you would like to learn what Key Club is all about, join us in the cafeteria. Attendance will be taken there.
Attention Softball Players: There will be an informational meeting for all players during the 2nd session of SRT on August 24th in the main gym. Please attend if you are thinking about playing softball in the spring.
SPORTS SCORES:
The boys tennis team beat a short-handed Bethany Christian 4-1 on Thursday. #1 singles player Wes Beck rebounded from a 0-6 first set to win in 3 while Simon Myers notched a double bagel win at 2 singles and Ryan Harmelink scored the breadsticks victory at 3 Singles. Drake Crowder and Tony Quann improved to 2-0 at 2 Doubles.
The girls varsity and JV volleyball teams both defeated Westview.
In a hard fought battle last night the Goshen girls soccer team tied Elkhart Central 2-2. After falling behind in the first half Goshen completed a furious comeback with two goals by Jill Kissinger in the final 12 minutes of the game. Jhoana Gomez assisted on the tying goal with a just a few minutes left in the game. Madison Rittenhouse had eight saves in goal for the Lady RedHawks. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the girls!
The JV girls soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-0 win over Elkhart Central. Jocelyn Guevara led Goshen with two goals. Priscilla Ramirez also scored for the RedHawks. Lucy Kramer, Maddie Swallow and Priscilla Ramirez assisted on the goals.
The Freshmen RedHawk football team lost a heart breaker to Wawasee 20-19 at GHS. Leading the RedHawks offensively was Colin Turner with one touchdown pass. Carlos Avalos had one receiving touchdown. Drew Worthman had one rushing touchdown. Leading the RedHawk defense was Andrew Pletcher. He had a 55 yard interception returned for a touchdown.
IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:
The boys varsity football team will face off against the Fairfield Falcons at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday:
The girls JV volleyball team will compete in the Plymouth Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
The boys and girls JV and varsity cross country teams will compete in the ECA Hokem Karem at 9:00 a.m.
The boys varsity tennis team will host the Goshen Round Robin at 9:30 a.m.
The girls varsity volleyball team will compete in the LaPorte Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
The boys JV and varsity soccer teams will play at West Noble. JV starts at 5:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 6:45 p.m.
