GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2016 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Welcome back!

REMINDER:  If you were invited to attend the Rotary luncheon, please make sure that you get your information sheets to Mrs. Stealy in the main office THIS WEEK.

There will be a brief meeting TODAY after school in Coach DuBois’ room for all cross country team members.

Stay In Bounds ambassadors will make their first visits to elementary schools this week.  Please check your school email to verify your visit day, time, teacher and school.  You should check in with Mr. Kissinger at the welcome center on Tuesday and Thursday immediately after 2nd period.  Be prepared to make a positive first impression!

All GHS girls soccer players need to meet in the teacher’s lounge TOMORROW after school to turn in your bag, warm ups and locks and to vote for team awards.

Winter season cheerleading tryout practices for girls will start TODAY from 4:00-5:30 p.m. and tomorrow from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the warehouse.  Judged tryouts will be on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.  Any guys interested in G-men, please plan to come on November 2nd from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the warehouse.  Everyone trying out must have an up-to-date physical and concussion/cardiac paperwork completed and turned into the athletic office.  For more information go to cheer.goshenschools.org and look under “winter season” or contact coaches.

GHS present the “Crimsonaire Fall Preview Concert” TOMORROW at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $3 at the door.  Enjoy a great hour of music, dance and special duets and ensembles!

Don’t forget to order your senior shirt this week.  Order forms and money should be turned into Mrs. Clark in room 2280.  The deadline is Friday.

Little Saints Child Care, a daycare center in Middlebury, is hiring for both a full time and part time position starting immediately.  If you or someone you know is interested, please contact the director, LaDonna Wright, at 574-825-9683 or daycare@stpaulsmiddlebury.org.

Members of the girls swim/dive team that need a ride to GMS after school should take bus #78 from the circle drive after school.  There will not be a separate bus for swim/dive this year.  Bus #78 runs a normal after school route and will drop off on Plymouth just north of the Aquatics Center.  See Mr. Kissinger if you have any questions.

Goshen High School’s annual Month of Compassion is October 24th through November 22nd.  These four weeks of philanthropy allow GHS students and staff to help others through their donations of coats, hats, gloves, canned foods and other non-perishable items.  All donations will benefit students of Goshen Community Schools.  Donated items can be brought to SRT classrooms, and weekly prizes will be awarded to the SRT with the most.  Thanks, GHS, for your giving!

Ivy Tech will be here on Thursday for an onsite admissions visit.  Sign up in guidance.  Space is limited.

Starting TODAY, we will no longer be issuing Temporary IDs.  Every student must be wearing a plastic ID card at all times.  New cards will be sold for $1 each.  If you do not have $1, your name will be added to a list.  You will still be responsible for paying that $1 within a week of receiving it to Mrs. Wolfe in the Main Office, otherwise you must serve a detention.  Mrs. Wolfe will notify those students who have not paid for their ID’s the day before their scheduled detention.  Lanyards will still be $1 if they wish to purchase one.  If not, your ID will be given to you on a piece of string.

Super Mileage Club will meet from 3:40-5:00 p.m. TOMORROW.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field.  If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Mr. Brubaker, Lucas Kauffman, or Mrs. Stealy in the main office.  The paperwork should be turned in to Lucas Kauffman the first time you attend.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

The Key Club Board of Directors will meet in the cafeteria TOMORROW during the 2nd session of SRT.  This meeting is for all Club Officers and newly-elected Class Representatives.

There will be an informational call-out meeting for all girls interested in playing tennis this spring on Tuesday, November 8th during the 2nd session of SRT in the main gym.  If you are hoping to play tennis this spring, you must be at this meeting or make other arrangements with Coach Love.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The boys varsity football team defeated the Wawasee Warriors, 41-34.  The RedHawks finished the regular season, 7-2 – their best record since 2002!

The boys JV football team lost to Wawasee, 20-18.  Drew Marlow had a rushing touchdown. Liam Morales had a rushing touchdown.  Hewitt Nafziger had a touchdown reception from Jack Immel.  Thad Hershberger had one interception.  Preston Hershberger had one interception.  Will Koshmeider had two quarterback sacks.  Noah Shively had a tackle for the loss.

The boys cross country team finished 6th place at regionals missing a semi-state birth by seven points.  Jason Barahona placed 9th, followed by Zach Oyer 20th, Felix Perez-Diener 26th, Brian Crain 52nd, Jonathon Snyder 53rd, Irving Suarez 63rd and Sergei Culp 73rd.  Jason and Zach qualified as individuals for the semi-state meet.

Ariana Perez-Diener and Kirsten Graves competed at the cross country Regionals.  Ariana qualified for semi-state while Kirsten narrowly missed advancing.

The boys freshman football team lost a heartbreaker to Wawasee.  Kechemy Elias rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns.  David Rodriguez had 20 yards rushing and one touchdown. Rodriguez also had one passing touchdown of 40 yards.  Tomas Fuentes had one receiving touchdown.  Leading the RedHawks defensively was JT Denk, Tyler Chalk and Bryant Grewe with multiple tackles.  Robert Smith had one fumble recovery.

The varsity girls volleyball team lost to Concord 0-3 in sectionals.

Congratulations to Ariana Perez-Diener who competed at the cross country semi-state on Saturday finishing 63rd.

Congratulations to Zach Oyer and Jason Barahona who both competed at the cross country semi-state on Saturday.  Jason finished 59th while Zach finished 103rd, missing the advancement to the state meet.
