GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THURSDAY, MAY 12, 2016

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Graduation tickets can be picked up TODAY during SRT from 8:25-10:25 a.m. outside the main office.  If you are in a senior SRT, please check with your SRT teacher about your designated time to come down.  If you are a Merit student or a junior graduating early you can come any time between 8:25-10:25 a.m.  If you cannot make it during SRT please see Mrs. Stealy in the main office starting tomorrow. If you have graduation tickets that you will not be using please turn those in to the main office as soon as possible.  

Extra Graduation Tickets:  We are running very low on extra tickets this year, so please check with friends first to see if maybe they have extra tickets that they will not use.  If you cannot find any from friends, e-mail Mrs. Stealy at fstealy@goshenschools.org and you will be put on a waiting list.

All are invited to attend the Centennial Orchestra concert on Sunday, May 22^nd at 3:00 p.m. in the GHS main gym.  This free concert will feature all orchestra students and be a celebration of the 100 years of our orchestra program.

Attention football players:  Your permission slips for the weightlifting competition at Wawasee are due this week to Coach Park.  Please drop those off to him in room 1160.

Any student planning to participate in graduation must attend graduation marching practicing on the last day of school on Friday, May 27^th from 2:15-3:35 p.m. in the main gym.  This is a mandatory rehearsal for all students participating in graduation.

Crimsonaire auditions will be next week on Wednesday, May 18^th and Friday, May 20^th after school.  This is a show choir group that has a great time performing throughout the community and beyond.  You do not need to currently be in a choir to audition.  Auditions are open to all! There is also a need for instrumentalists in our back up band.  If you are interested in playing in the back-up band talk to Ms. Yost in the choir office.  Sign up for an audition time in the choir room.  To audition, bring a solo to sing – we will have a piano accompanist available or you can sing with a track.  Plan now to audition for this fun opportunity to become a Crimsonaire!

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week:  Last week was the NFL draft.  As always, there were some surprises as to where the college stars landed and which teams would select them.  But regardless, there is always competition.  The draft assures nothing.  New Denver Broncos quarterback Mark Sanchez said it best.  “If you are confident in your ability, you have no problem helping a guy.”  If you are an upperclassmen, take this suggestion to heart.  Always be of help to the young players on your team and encourage them constantly.  Your leadership and attitude will truly affect their growth as a player and student-athlete!

Football open gyms will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15-8:00 a.m. in Whiteman gym for the next two weeks.  See Coach Park for more details.

The Drama Club will take their annual one day trip to Chicago on May 29^th.  We will see the play, One Man, Two Guvnors at the Court Theatre.  We will also go to the Chicago Art Museum, dine on the Hyde Park Square and ride in a Cardinal Coach.  Anyone interested can purchase a ticket for $65.00.  Drama Club participants can get a $15.00 discount if they purchase their ticket this week.  See Mrs. Long in room 1400 to purchase tickets, or if you have further questions.

All senior student-athletes who participated in a spring sport can stop by the commons area and see Mr. Kissinger during lunch on Thursday, May 26^th for some ice cream and to write thank you notes.  Thank you for your hard work this season!

The guidance office has just received the Indiana Latino Institute Scholarship.  Stop in to pick up an application.

Seniors: If you need your final transcript sent to the college you are attending in the fall or have received any scholarships, please let Ms. Hollinger know in the guidance office.

Join us for the art show TONIGHT from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the media center.

Students who plan on attending Merit summer school:  Enrollment started this week and will continue until spots are filled.  Sessions will run Monday, June 6^th thru Thursday, June 30^th.  You must attend ALL sessions until your class is complete.  Morning or afternoon sessions are available.  The cost is $50, and you will only be able to complete one class.  You must meet with your Guidance counselor to do the on-line enrollment.  A bill for payment will be emailed to you.  Information forms are now available in the Guidance office, so don’t delay!

Attention Juniors and Seniors:  Prom tickets are now on sale during lunches Tuesday-Friday through May 13^th for $35 each, payable by cash or check.

The guidance office has just received the Elkhart County Farm Bureau Scholarship.  Stop in for an application.

After hours homework help for any class is now available!  On Mondays and Wednesdays you can meet in the media center after school until 5:00 p.m.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field.  If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Lucas Kauffman, Mr. Brubaker, Mr. Snyder in the choir office or from Mrs. Stealy in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Stay In Bounds Ambassadors are invited for breakfast TODAY during the 2^nd session of SRT as a thank you for your hard work.  Please leave door M and report to Foreman Field.  See you then!

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The boys JV golf team traveled to Warsaw to take on Warsaw and Concord.  The team was led by freshman Allan Garratt with a 60.

The boys varsity golfers traveled to Warsaw on Wednesday to take on the Tigers and Concord.  Goshen was led by senior Matt Truex and sophomore Peyton Cripe with 41’s.

The boys track team concluded its NLC season with another runner-up finish. The RedHawks started the meet with a large lead scoring 71 points in five field events.  The boys competed spectacularly but in the end, Warsaw outscored the RedHawks 176 to148. Other scores included: Northwood 118.5, Northridge 110, Concord 58.5, Plymouth 50, Elkhart Memorial 36.5 & Wawasee 35.5.  Top Performances: Jordan Holley celebrated his birthday by becoming a double NLC Champion winning the shot put (new personal best of 50’9) & the discus (154’6) Brock Tauteris was 2nd in the shot put (new personal best of 49’0) Andy Wang was 2nd in the discus (148’9) Brenn Mckee was also an NLC Champion by pole vaulting (13’4) & Hudson Kay followed in 2nd 13’0) Rummel Johnson and Simon Myers both placed well in the high jump with Rummel jumping (6’3 -3rd place) and Simon (6’0-5th place) The 4×800 Relay team were also NLC Champions -the team of Juan Perez, Jason Barahona, Colton Potter & Zach Oyer (8:16.69) Josuel Sanchez was runner-up in the 110 high hurdles (15.26) & also placed 3rd in the 300 hurdles with a time that improves his school record now at (39.89) Other top 5 finishers for the Redhawks: Ronaldo Garcia -3rd in the 100 meter dash (11.45) Juan Perez -4th in the 1600 meter run (4:37.58) The 4×100 relay team was 5th -team of Tyler Brinson, Rene Gutierrez, Brandon Holley & Jeff Stoll (44.95) Ronaldo Garcia -4th in the 300 hurdles (39.89) Ronaldo Garcia -4th in the 200 meter dash (23.46) The 4×400 relay team was 4th -the team of Jacob Grewe, Rummel Johnson, Ronaldo Garcia, Rummel Johnson & Cam Kline (3:31.65) Jeff Stoll 5th in the long jump (19’4.75)

The girls varsity softball fourth inning rally sparked a win.  Kate Atkinson only allowed four hits and had nine strikeouts.  The offense was led by AnaMaria Ramirez with three hits.  Emily Castillo, Kate Atkinson and Ashton Darnell each added two hits apiece.

The girls JV softball team dropped an NLC match on the road against the Plymouth Pilgrims by a score of 8-6. This drops the season record to 9-9 (5-4).  Breanna Boocher hit a three run home run and pitched a complete game for the RedHawks.  This was Boocher’s first home run of the season and gave the RedHawks a brief 6-5 lead in the 5^th inning.  The Pilgrims scored three runs in the bottom of the 6^th to take an 8-6 lead that held throughout the rest of the game.

The boys varsity baseball team lost a well-played back and forth game against Plymouth 6-8. Joey Peebles took the loss on the mound.  Michael Pinarski threw two innings of scoreless relief. Robbie Riegsecker and James Paetkau had two hits and CJ Detweiler a double.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The girls varsity tennis team will compete in NLC prelims at 4:30 p.m.

The boys JV and varsity baseball teams will compete at Elkhart Central at 5:00 p.m.

The boys JV and varsity golf teams will host Plymouth at 5:00 p.m.

The girls varsity team will play at Northridge at 5:00 p.m.
