ANNOUNCEMENTS:

If you are a senior and looking for full-time employment after graduation, there are two opportunities to earn $14-$15/hour and learn a skilled trade of maintenance on machinery.  Both Benteler and AJP Brunk Corporations will train on-the-job, as well as pay for training to get certified in areas such as electrical and pneumatics.  If you stay with the company you could earn over $20/hour within a couple years.  If you are interested in one of these opportunities see Mr. Bechtel for details.

There is a Give Back night at Ben’s Pretzels in Goshen for the girls tennis team on Thursday, April 21^st from 4-7:00 p.m.  Stop by, grab a pretzel or calzone and let the players clean up after you!

Students who did not pick up senior products yesterday will have one additional chance.  Jostens will return Tuesday, May 3^rd from 7:45-8:25 a.m.  Once again only cash or money orders will be accepted as payment.  Students with questions should contact Jostens directly at Greg.muncy@jostens.com or 260-483-1825.

After hours homework help for any class started this week!  On Mondays and Wednesdays you can meet in the media center after school until 5:00 p.m.

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week:  Most coaches tell their athletes to be careful about their content when it comes to tweeting.  Let’s face it, it’s more fun to tweet about success instead of failure.  However, if you are a high school athlete, chances are you will have more subpar moments than successful ones.  It’s part of being an athlete.  PGA golfer Ricky Fowler had one of those bad moments in the first round of the Masters, shooting a high score and giving himself no chance of winning.  Critics were making fun of his high-top golf shoes.  His tweet said, “I was always taught if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all.”  How do you react to negative comments and subpar games?  Most of us are sensitive and care about how others perceive us.  Can you react in a positive way and make no excuses?  Whether you tweet or not, don’t say anything that you might regret later.  Failure can be a part of any sporting event and it is nothing to be ashamed of!

Attention all GHS students:  The day you’ve all been waiting for has arrived!  The Mr. GHS buckets started this week.  There will be a different category for each day. Instead of voting on the traditional physical features of our contestants, this year you will vote on the following: favorite movie, favorite quote, favorite food, favorite cartoon, ideal superhero duo and best baby picture.  All of the proceeds from the buckets go to the boys’ choice charities.  So throw your spare change in their buckets during lunch!

The Goshen Public Library doesn’t just lend books!  We also offer FREE activities for young adults. Stop in on Thursdays after school from 4:00-6:00 p.m. to hang out, study, find an independent reading book, play a board game, color or just chillax at the teen café!  And, of course, we’ll also have hot chocolate and coffee.  Our next Weebz Anonymous Manga Club meeting will be Wednesday, April 20^th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. and the Courageous Pages Writing Club is on Wednesday, April 27^th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the teen area.  Our regular monthly programming also continues on Friday, April 15^th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with our Nerd’s Night Out program where you can test yourself and your friends with a variety of teen challenges…..pizza party included!  Then, our Pages & Popcorn club meets on Thursday, April 21^st from 5:30-8:00 p.m.  We’ll talk about the classic spooky R.L Stine books and watch the movie, Goosebumps.  Finally, our regular programming will conclude this month with our Crafty Bandits club, where we’ll smash flowers to make cards.  To sign up or for more information about our programs, stop by the library or check out our GPL Teens webpage, Facebook or Twitter.

The spring blood drive will be held on Friday, April 22^nd.  Sign-ups are happening this week in social studies.  See Mrs. Clark in room 2280 with questions.

Key Club will be collecting personal care items for the Parent Comfort Cart at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis THIS WEEK.  Staff and students who traveled over Spring Break are encouraged to bring their travel-sized soap, shampoo and conditioner to the Guidance Office for donation.  Other items being accepted include travel-size deodorant, lotion, shaving cream, toothpaste, mouthwash and contact lens solution.  Key Club appreciates your support of Riley Hospital!

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field.  If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Lucas Kauffman, Mr. Brubaker, Mr. Snyder in the choir office or from Mrs. Stealy in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

Physical Night will take place on Monday, April 18^th at Goshen Orthopedics & Sports Medicine from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Physicals are available to current 6^th graders through 11^th graders for only $20 and are by appointment only.  For an appointment, go to the GHS Athletic Office and sign up with Mrs. Schrock.  You must have the completed/signed paperwork (which can be picked up from Mrs. Schrock) and the $20 to reserve your appointment.  For more information, please visit the GHS Athletics website at athletics.goshenschools.org.

Little Caesars is looking for students 16-18 years of age who want part-time employment during the school year and this summer.  They offer very flexible hours with a maximum of 25 hours per week.  Little Caesars will work around your schedule.  Applicants start at $7.25/hour with opportunities for raises and advancement.  Apply on-line at www.pleaseapplyonline.com/krpizzas.  Students can also stop by and speak with a manager any time.

Shepard Swim School is looking for students who are not involved in after school activities, or students who are staying local for college, to be swim instructors at their Elkhart facility.  They will train and certify you so no swim experience is necessary.  You can stop by the swim school to apply or download their printable application at http://www.shepardswimschool.com/pages/our-staff at submit it at the swim school.

SPORTS SCORES:

The girls varsity softball team lost another tough game against Triton 11-9.  Elkah Devoe went 4 for 4 at the plate while Kate Atkinson also added two hits.

The girls JV softball team defeated the Triton Trojans by a score of 11-0.  The RedHawks offense was hitting on all cylinders.  Josie Walters, Adriana Berger and Gabby Ott all had three hits for the RedHawks.  Nicole Abbs pitched her first shutout of the season.  Defensively the RedHawks were led by a few outstanding plays by Walters at 2B.

The boys varsity baseball team downed New Prairie 12-3 in their 4^th game in four days.  Joey Peebles threw six strong innings with eight strike outs for the win and Andrew Weddle threw a scoreless 7^th.  Robbie Riegsecker had a home run and four RBI’s.  Michael Pinarski and Charlie Collins each doubled and James Paetkau had three singles.

The boys JV baseball team won its 4^th game of the season vs. New Prairie behind the strong pitching of Jacob Haimes, ending with a score of 5-2.  Haimes went the complete game for the win allowing only one earned run on three hits while striking out nine.  Haimes also hit a double with Austin Bontrager adding an important RBI single in the top of the 7^th inning.

The boys JV golf team hosted Marian and Elkhart Central, and wrapped up the evening with a loss.  The team was led by freshman Gabe Yoder who fired a 57.

The boys varsity golf team hosted Elkhart Central and Mishawaka Marian, and ended the night with a loss.  Goshen was led by senior Matt Truex with a 39 capping his round with a birdie on hole #9.

The girls tennis team fell to 2-1 on the season with a 2-3 loss to Wawasee.  Kayleigh Crowder at 1 Singles and Lineth Alvarez at 2 Singles both won in straight sets.  JV got victories from Cheyenne Kalb, Paulina Medina and a come-from-behind win by Val Proano and Laura Sanchez.
