GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23, 2016                                 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

All freshmen out for their first sport season at GHS this year who are on the boys and girls track & field teams are to report to the cardio room classrooms after school TODAY.  One of your coaches will be there to facilitate some activities for the Be the Best leadership program for all student-athletes.  Please report straight to the classroom and the coaches will get you access to your locker room when we finish at 4:45 p.m.  Go Big Red!

Seniors, please check the due dates on your scholarships.  Many of them are due during spring break.  Please bring any completed scholarship applications that you want sent to Ms. Hollinger in the guidance office no later than March 29th.

Just a reminder that National Honor Society members need to have their tamale order forms and money turned in to Mrs. Kroening or Mrs. Collins no later than TODAY at 3:45 p.m.

Reminder: The Elkhart Area Career Center will be closed on Friday.

Key Club will be collecting personal care items for the Parent Comfort Cart at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis the week of April 11th-15th.  Staff and students who are traveling over Spring Break are encouraged to bring their travel-sized soap, shampoo and conditioner to the Guidance Office for donation.  Other items being accepted include travel-size deodorant, lotion, shaving cream, toothpaste, mouthwash and contact lens solution.  Key Club appreciates your support of Riley Hospital!

Lakepark Industries in Shipshewana is currently hiring for second shift production workers.  The starting wage is $12.15-14.75 per hour depending on experience.  If you do not have previous experience we are willing to train for all positions.  Interested parties should apply online at www.midwayproducts.com.

If you are interested in becoming a lifeguard there will be a lifeguarding course offered at the GCS Aquatic Center. The cost of the course is $35. There will be an online portion that you will need to complete yourself before coming to the water skills sessions. Water Skills sessions will be held on Tuesday (4/12), Thursday (4/14), Saturday (4/16) and if needed, on Sunday (4/17). The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Lucas Kauffman, Mr. Brubaker, Mr. Snyder in the choir office or from Mrs. Stealy in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.

United States Senator Dan Coates and Congresswoman Jackie Walorski invite you to attend the Indiana Service Academy Day on Saturday, April 23rd from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Miami County Fairgrounds 4H Community Building in Peru. Come shop for a FREE prom dress. The Junior League of South Bend and Ziker Cleaners are partnering together one again to host Princess for a Night on Saturday at the Century Center from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Please arrive by 11:30 a.m. and bring your student ID with you.

The Career Center field trip is tomorrow. The trip is now full. If you signed up, please check the list outside of the Guidance office to make sure that your name is on there.

The Goshen Public Library doesn’t just lend books! We also offer FREE activities for young adults. Stop in on Thursdays after school from 4:00-6:00 p.m. to hang out, study, find an independent reading book, play a board game, color or just chillax at the teen café! We’ll also have hot chocolate and coffee. Our two NEW clubs are continuing in March! Weebz Anonymous, our manga club, meets first and third Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. and Courageous Pages, our creative writing club, meets fourth Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the teen area. Our regular programming will conclude this month with the Crafty Bandits, which will meet up on Monday, March 28th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to have snacks and learn how to play with electricity to “hack” art and book cover prints to decorate the teen area. Physical Night will take place on Monday, April 18th at Goshen Orthopedics & Sports Medicine from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Physicals are available to current 6th graders through 11th graders for only $20 and are by appointment only. For an appointment, go to the GHS Athletic Office and sign up with Mrs. Schrock. You must have the completed/signed paperwork (which can be picked up from Mrs. Schrock) and the $20 to reserve your appointment. MEETINGS DURING SRT:

If you are interested in trying out for boys soccer next year, there is a meeting on Tuesday, March 29th during the 2nd session of SRT in Whiteman gym.

Any boy interested in playing football next fall should attend a call out meeting on Tuesday, March 29th in the main gym during the 2nd session of SRT. We will be discussing the expectations of being a RedHawk football team member, the spring and summer calendar, and gathering player information.  Please see Coach Park with any questions or let him know if you will be unable to attend the meeting, but plan on playing.

The girls track and field team edged out Fairfield by a score of 68-64 in a tight contest. The girls also beat Bethany Christian High School 120-10. Highlights were Jill Kissinger and Kyrah Fletcher’s 2nd and 3rd place finishes in both 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Brandi Smith’s 3rd place finish in the 100 meter dash, Morelia Capuchino Diaz’s 3rd place finish in the 200 meter dash, Brandi Smith and Kayleigh McKee’s 1st and 3rd place finishes in the 400 meter dash, Hannah Kurtz and Maggie Gallagher’s 1st and 2nd place finishes in the 800 meter run, Nora Rangel and Ashley Gonzalez’s 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the 1600 meter run, Annelise Wiebe and Kirsten Graves’ 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the 3200 meter run, Kassandra Rodriguez and Suzette Rodriguez’s 1st and 3rd place finishes in the shot put, Suzette Rodriguez’s 2nd place finish in the discus, Kim Grounds and Kayleigh McKee’s 1st and 3rd place finishes in the pole vault, Brandi Smith and Jenny Bustos’ 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the long jump, Monse Rodriguez’s 3rd place finish in the high jump, and Goshen’s 4×800 relay team of Jill Kissinger, Maggie Gallagher, Hannah Kurtz, and Nora Rangel’s 1st place finish.
