ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Please remember that on 2 hour delay days we start at 10:25 a.m. regardless of the day of the week. This is a change from last year.
SENIORS: If you are interested in taking the first available SAT, it will be offered at Concord High School and other sites in the area on Saturday, October 3rd. The regular registration deadline is midnight tomorrow. If you need a fee waiver form, please see your Guidance Counselor.
JUNIORS: You will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday, October 14th, so you DO NOT need to take an SAT. There will be more details at a later date.
The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field. If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Lucas Kauffman, or in the main office. The paperwork should be turned in the first time you attend.
Super Mileage Club Purpose: To develop super mileage cars that will travel as far as possible on one gallon of fuel. Members will assist Engineering Design and Development students with the design and construction of vehicles and assist with other technology and maintenance. The first meeting is on September 8th from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in room 8010. See Mr. Holsopple for further details.
Line 1, 2 and 3 in the cafeteria will now be cashless. This means you will need money on your account to purchase food in that line. You will be able to deposit money in the mornings or online at myschoolbucks.com. This is a free service.
Starting Tuesday, September 8th if you have a negative balance in your lunch account you could be offered an alternate lunch. Please check your balance before next Tuesday.
Attention all students: Herff Jones will be here tomorrow during lunch and after school until 6:00 p.m. for class ring orders. This is your last chance to get your custom “Redskin” design on your ring!
All GHS students and especially GHS student-athletes not in a fall sport are encouraged to take place in off-season workouts. In addition to open fields/open gyms that your head coaches may be offering, the GHS athletic department is offering sports performance, under the supervision and expertise of Mr. Jim Whittaker, every Monday and Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. starting after Labor Day. All students are welcome but you must have a current physical exam on file in the athletic office as well as the state mandated concussion and cardiac arrest awareness form. The first session will be Wednesday, September 9th and all should meet at the track! Excellence vs. Excuses, who is winning?
Any boy interested in playing basketball this year and is not involved in a fall sport should stop and see Coach Bechtel, or any assistant coach (Wohlford, Davis, McLaughlin), to pick up a fall workout schedule. Fall workout schedules are also located at www.goshenbasketball under the Schedules tab. Workouts will begin after Labor Day. All participants will need an IHSAA physical before participating. If you need that paperwork stop by the athletic office.
The Student Faculty Senate meets the first Thursday of each month in the media center at 7:45 a.m. All club members are welcome to join to give input on fundraisers and to keep us up to date on your club sponsored activities. The first meeting is tomorrow.
Rule the Road This is a free teen driving event complete with a road course with instructors and a pizza lunch on October 10th (note the date change) from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Dept. This is open to students with a learner’s permit, or in their first year of having their license. You can pick up a form packet in the main office which must be turned in to Mrs. Stealy with a copy of your learner’s permit or driver’s license by September 28th.
Universal Tamal on Main St. in Goshen is looking for a waitress/waiter that is fluent in English and Spanish and is able to work a maximum of twenty hours a week. If interested, please apply in person.
If you are 18 and looking to work weekend shifts in an industrial setting, Brunk Corporation is looking to hire workers to work 8-16 hours on the weekend (1 or 2 eight hour shifts each weekend). This job starts at $12.00/hour and requires that you can start and stop a machine as it fills boxes with plastic pellets, move boxes to storage racks and possibly drive a forklift. This position could work into full time work in the future. If interested, contact Joe McPhilamy at 533-1109 ext. 35. He is willing to give you a tour of the plant and start training you as soon as possible.

MEETINGS DURING SRT:
Key Club will have its first meeting tomorrow during the 2nd session of SRT. Last year’s club members plus anyone interested in learning more about Key Club should plan to attend. We will meet in the cafeteria.
The first meeting of the Student Athletic Council will be tomorrow during the 2nd session of SRT in the main gym. This group meets monthly first semester. We develop ideas to promote school spirit at athletic contests, work with the Unified Track & Field program, ring bells for the salvation army and sponsor the fan appreciation nights at ball games. Stop for a cookie, some leadership activities and to talk Mr. Kissinger and other student-athletes about current events in GHS athletics. You must be a junior or senior student-athlete to participate.
Attention GHS Spellers! There will be a Spell Bowl call-out meeting during the 2nd session of SRT on Tuesday, September 8th. Meet in Lisa Caskey’s room, 3130. Spell Bowl is open to any GHS student.
SPORTS SCORES:
The girls cross country team lost to Concord. Nora Rangel finished 2nd followed by Annelise Wiebe 4th, Ariana Perez Diener 5th, Kirsten Graves 12th, Paola Rangel 14th, Elena Meyer-Reimer 16th and Montse Reyes 17th.
The boys cross country team lost to Concord. Juan Perez was the individual winner followed by Jason Barahona 3rd, Erik Villegas 7th, Zach Oyer 11th, Brian Crain 12th, Sergei Culp 13th and Angel Arrelo 15th.
The girls varsity soccer team lost a close battle with Warsaw last night 1-0. Alyssa Hershberger had three saves in goal for the Lady Redskins. The varsity girls record now stands at 3-2-1.
The JV girls soccer team defeated Warsaw 3-0. Lexi Flores scored two goals and Kayleigh McKee one to lead the Goshen offense. The JV team is now 5-1 on the season.
The boys tennis team improved to 10-0 by winning their NLC-opener 5-0 over visiting Warsaw. The 2 doubles team of Jacob Grewe and Giovanni Aguayo completed the sweep with a 3-set victory. Hudson Kay and Evan Beck had strong performances at 1 & 2 singles, dropping only three games in their four combined sets. The JV team got wins from Simon Myers at 1 singles and the doubles tandem of Dirk Oyer and Diego Torres.
Claire Palczynski paced the Lady Redskins with a 48 in girls golf last night. Goshen improved over its last competition but it wasn’t enough for a very solid Wawasee team.
IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:
The girls JV and varsity golf teams will travel to Bent Oak Country Club to compete against Concord and Plymouth at 5:00 p.m. Good luck ladies!
