Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz

Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz stopped by two Goshen schools Friday morning, Nov. 15, to meet with teachers and other school staff and hear about some of the schools’ programs.

After speaking at an early education conference in Goshen, Ritz had a walk through of West Goshen Elementary and sat in with West Goshen Principal Alan Metcalfe and the school’s master and mentor teachers during a cluster group meeting, a weekly part of an initiative called TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement. The

program focuses on helping teachers continually improve their skills through classroom observations and group and individual coaching, which in turn improves student achievement. All Goshen Community Schools have implemented TAP, while West Goshen received recognition from the organization that oversees TAP for the elementary’s implementation of the system in 2012.

Superintendent Ritz then had a window into Goshen High School’s programming with a visit there later in the morning.
