On Friday, June 26, 2020, Goshen Community Schools learned that an employee tested positive for COVID-19. Individuals working with this employee have been notified to ensure that appropriate quarantine actions are taken. In addition, GCS is working closely with the Elkhart County Health Department for additional contact tracing and social isolating beyond our organization.

The first priority of Goshen Community Schools is the health, wellness and safety of its staff and students. When COVID-19 was recognized as a pandemic in March, GCS suspended in-school classes and provided health and safety training based upon the Centers of Disease Control and the State of Indiana for all staff members. Additional cleaning processes and procedures have been put into place in every building within the district.

All GCS employees have signed an employee agreement to complete wellness self-checks before coming to work. If employees have any symptoms, they have been asked to inform their supervisor and not to report to work. We continue to ask all GCS employees to wash their hands frequently with soap and water (for at least 20 seconds), use hand sanitizer frequently, wear face coverings, and maintain physical distances from co-workers of at least six feet.
GCS employees have been diligent about following safety rules for the well-being of themselves and their co-workers. At the same time, the coronavirus is a novel, virulent disease about which we continue to learn more and respond accordingly. Team members, like anyone, may encounter the virus in numerous places around our community.

GCS remains committed to working diligently with the Elkhart County Health Department and the Indiana Department of Education to ensure that our facilities and procedures are reflective of best practices in health and safety. In addition, the district will continue to deep clean and disinfect all facilities while following any other recommendations from the Elkhart County Health Department. We urge the community to join with us in following the safety guidelines recommended by the Health Department and the CDC.
