ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Congratulations to the members of the Crimson Marching Band for placing 2nd in their class at the Bands of America Regional in Bowling Green, Ohio and capturing the best General Effect award. After class awards the Crimson Marching Band was named a top 10 finalist and advanced to the evening finals competition where they placed 6th out of the 25 schools that attended.
IB Students: Please turn in your registration form to Mrs. Haney in the office. It’s imperative that you do this by October 10th. You will not be able to test if you don’t submit this form by the deadline. If you have any questions, please ask your IB teacher, Mrs. Collins, or Mr. Nichols.
IUSB will be in the Guidance office for on-site admissions on TODAY, October 1st from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Come to Guidance and sign up for a time slot and a paper application to fill out prior to October 1st, and you will know if you have been accepted at your meeting. IUSB will also be giving a $500 scholarship to any student that has a 3.0 or higher GPA. This scholarship will only be available on October 1st.
Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) will be in the guidance office Tomorrow, October 2nd from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Their admissions office has discontinued paper applications. We encourage students to apply during the last week of September, if at all possible. The $30 application fee will be automatically be waived THAT WEEK ONLY. The application process is streamlined and takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. There are no essay questions for students to worry about. Students should bring their official high school transcript to their scheduled meeting.
Attention Students: Herff Jones will be here again Tomorrow, October 2nd before school to take class ring orders for any grade, and for senior orders for caps and gowns, graduation announcements, and other senior items. Extra packets are available in the main office.
Attention GHS Students: FCA or FCS (Fellowship of Christian Athletes/Students) will meet on Wednesday, October 3rd at 7:30 a.m. If you are looking to fellowship with other Goshen students and athletes, FCA is for you. This club helps students and athletes inject their faith into daily routines. This year our meetings will be held on the first and third Wednesday of the month. We will meet in Mr. Hutcherson’s room. Anyone is welcome – you don’t have to be an athlete. Activities range from videos, guest speakers, community projects, and even lessons given by the FCA leaders. This club can often be the support a student needs in order to navigate the extremely tough waters of the high school experience and highly competitive expectations of a sport.
In order to be able to vote in this year’s election you must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License or Indiana State ID Card, be a citizen of the United States, be at least 18 years old on or before November 6th, 2018, have lived in your current precinct for at least 30 days, and not currently be in prison after being convicted of a crime. Go to https://indianavoters.in.gov/ to register online. The deadline to register is Tuesday, October 9th.
GHS presents Agatha Christie’s Appointment With Death on November 16th and 17th at 7:30 p.m., and November 18th at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors 65 and older, and $20 for families. They can be purchased at the door.
BE A PART OF IT ALL! The Interra Credit Union RedHawks Branch is open! Located in the commons, the kiosk is in operation from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. Students, faculty, and staff – stop by to learn about the services available to you and to meet Martha and Tricia. Plan to participate in this year’s Grand Opening celebration NEXT week, when you can register to win door prizes and spin the WHEEL OF SUPRISES!
Do you need to catch up on credits or just want to get ahead? Merit on the Move may be for you! Students can earn credits in nearly any subject in order to get a better grade, get a class or two out of the way early, or even graduate early. Sessions run Wednesdays and Thursdays after school from 3:45-5:45 p.m. Talk to your counselor for more information.
GHS has formed a Robotics team to participate in the FIRST tech Challenge which competes at the state, national, and world level in robotics. We our looking for more students interested in being part of this team. All skill levels are welcomed and needed – technical and non-technical. Our team needs all kinds of skills to succeed. Student and adult team members are encouraged to bring any skills they already have, like programming, electronics, metalworking, graphic design, web creation, public speaking, videography, and many more. FIRST Tech Challenge welcomes every student, with or without special skills. If you want to be part of the team, see Mr. Moist in room 1311 or e-mail him at kmoist@staff.goshenschools.org. You are under no circumstances allowed to lock your bike up to any fence or gate on school property. There has been a problem with students specifically doing this along the fence/gate to the soccer fields. If you continue to do this, your lock will be cut, and your bike will be removed. There are bike racks available, and they should be used. Thank you for your cooperation with this!

YOU MUST BE STAYING AFTER SCHOOL FOR SOMETHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS – The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school. This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity. Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner. The cafeteria will stay open until 3:50 p.m. to hand out the snacks. All students picking up the healthy snack after school will need to eat their snack in the cafeteria. We appreciate your cooperation with this adjustment that is mandated by the state of Indiana in order to continue this program.
Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in the media center from 3:45-5:00 p.m. You must be in the media center by 3:50 p.m. in order to stay for this, and dismissal times are at 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. You are expected to exit the building through door FF, which is located by the stairs just down from the media center. A bus will be available around 5:10 p.m. if you need a ride home. This bus is for students who stay for after-hours help ONLY. It will pick you up at the south end of circle drive by the flag pole. This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.
The 2018 yearbook has arrived! The books are being delivered to the SRT of the student who purchased the book. If the student is not in SRT, the book will be returned to room 1400. There are a few extra books that can be purchased for $45 in room 1400. Students may pick up books for siblings or graduates in room 1400. If you are a parent who will come in to pick up a yearbook for your graduate, please e-mail Susan Long at slong@goshenschools.org to make arrangements for her to leave it with Mr. Huser at the Welcome Center.
After school, it is expected that all students exit the building by 3:50 p.m. If you have an after school activity, you should report to the sponsor’s room responsible for that activity by 3:50 p.m. You are not to remain in the hallways or commons after 3:50 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation with this request.
Free/reduced lunch forms are available in the bookkeeper’s office, in the cafeteria and in guidance. Please pick one up if you need it!
Any student driving needs to have a parking tag. You can get this through Mrs. Haney in the Bookkeeper’s office. You need to have a valid license, valid registration, valid proof of insurance (this means that none of these can be expired), and $5. OJ has started tagging vehicles without parking permits, so please make this a priority. You don’t want to be the proud new owner of a big orange sticker.
WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.
If you are a student that leaves the building at any time during normal school hours then you must have a sticker on your ID if it’s for a class (PACT, Building Trades, EACC, Merit, shortened schedules, Red Zone, internship, yearbook, etc.) that indicates that or a blue pass from the office indicating that you have permission to leave. Building Trades, EACC and Red Zone students are also required to sign out at the Welcome Center before leaving. You can get this sticker in the main office from Mrs. Wolfe or Mrs. Kuiper.

MEETINGS DURING SRT:
FRENCH CLUB is meeting Tuesday, October 2 during 2nd session of SRT in room 2410. We will be looking at T-shirts/hoodies and playing Halloween Bingo! We hope to see you there!
German Club will meet on Tuesday, October 2nd during the 2nd session of SRT in the Main Gym. We will be doing our graffiti activity, picking a t-Shirt design, and electing officers.
Do you enjoy engineering competitions, figuring out how things work, solving problems, or designing new things? If so, then come check out TSA (Technology Student Association) during the 2nd session of SRT on Thursday, October 4th in Lab 8040! Come hear what TSA is all about and the opportunities available. Multicultural Youth Dance Club (MYD) will have a call out meeting on Tuesday, October 9th during the 2nd session of SRT in Whiteman Gym.
GHS is starting up an ESports Club for this year! There will be a call out meeting Tuesday, October 9th during the 2nd session of SRT in the Main Gym. The club will be using League of Legends, Defense of the Ancients 2, or Heroes of the Storm initially to develop the club with a chance to grow into more platforms. So if you have an interest in ESports, want to learn how to play ESport games, or want to increase your own skills come check it out. SPORTS SCORES:
The Unified RedHawks travelled to Warsaw for the inaugural Unified Flag Football Sectionals. Despite playing hard with several missing players and injuries, the RedHawks ended their season with a loss in the first round of sectionals against the Wawasee Warriors Goshen – 7 Wawasee – 34. Scoring the only touchdown of the game for the RedHawks was Spencer Witmer with a full field run and point after touchdown was scored on a 5 yard run by Lexi Tucker.Quarterbacks Allen Guthrie and Kateleen Marquez worked their crews hard. The RedHawk defense tries hard to keep the Warriors at bay but ultimately it wasn’t enough. The Unified RedHawks will be presented at the Boys Varsity Football game on Friday October 5th
Congratulations to the GHS JV girls’ soccer team on winning the NLC soccer tournament this weekend! The girls defeated Northwood 1-0 in the championship game. The winning goal was scored by Maddie Swallow with 3 minutes left in the game on an assists from Alex Lozano. In the first game of the tournament Goshen defeated Elkhart Memorial 7-0. Maddie Swallow had two goals to lead the Goshen offense. Alex Lozano, Diana Cortez, Joya Drenth, Priscilla Ramirez, & Christina Herrmann also scored for the RedHawks. Lucy Kramer, Alex Lozano, Priscila Ramirez, & Diana Cortez assisted on the goals. The girls finish the year with a 11-3-2 record.
The girls cross country team placed 8th at the conference meet. Yadira Sanchez led the team finishing 21st followed by Kassidy Bestul 36th, Julie Walton Clark 46th, Brandi Smith 48th, Kayleigh McKee 49th, Sophia Koshmider 54th and Abigail Garcia 55th.
The boys cross country team finished 4th. Felix Perez Diener was the Northern Lakes Conference Champion, followed by Angel Arreola 13th, Cole Johnston 21st, Johnathon Snyder 23rd, Sam Miller 27th, Adrian Mora 29th, and Ryan Diaz 30th.
Saturday morning, the Goshen RedHawks JV team took on the Northridge Raiders at Northridge High School. The RedHawks lost 50-0. Leading the offense was Alex Ubaldo. He rushed the all very well. Mitch Daniels also contributed to the rushing attack. Defensively, the RedHawks were led by Connor Ratcliff. He had a fumble recovery. Isaac Swatazky also had multiple tackles.
Friday night, the Goshen RedHawks took on the Northridge Raiders at Goshen High School. The RedHawks lost to the Raiders 30-14. Leading the way offensively for the RedHawks was Bryant Grewe. He had two rushing touchdowns. Daveyon Sanford had 188 yards receiving including a 65 yard reception. Defensively for the RedHawkswere led by Tomas Fuentes. He had two interceptions. Dominic Sosa had 12 tackles and a forced fumble. Drew Marlow had 11 tackles with three being for loss of yards. The defensive unit as a whole had seven tackles for loss.
The Goshen RedHawks Varsity Volleyball team went 3-1 at the Southwood Invite defeating Ft. Wayne Northrop, Marion, and Southwood and losing to Huntington North. The RedHawks are now 23-8 heading into their final regular season contest against Bethany Christian Tuesday. Top performers for the RedHawks were:
