This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.
IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week: The NCAA Basketball Tournament is one of the most exciting sports events of the year. This year’s surprising team is Loyola-Chicago. They are advancing to the Final Four for the first time in over 50 years. Their coach, Porter Moser, was asked how a small Division I school gets to the Final Four? His response was emotional and very truthful. “It’s an accumulation of a group that is resilient and tough and believes and invested……..this didn’t just happen two weeks ago, but it’s not one person, it’s not one player, it’s a collaboration of a lot of tough, high character people.” The winning recipe for a championship team requires more than just athletic ability and individual skills. It requires meshing all those unnoticed sacrifices to survive against the best of the best. Like Coach Moser said, you can’t win on skill alone. It’s a combination of all the little things (that are truly the big things) that leads teams to their greatest performance!
Goshen High School, Goshen Middle School and Goshen Health Systems will combine efforts again this spring to offer $20 athletic physical exams to all incoming 6th-12th grade students. These physical exams will be performed by Goshen Health Systems health providers and will take place at Goshen Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Center off of CR 27 (Dierdorff Road) in Goshen. The event will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 16th. Appointments for the exams and payments must be made in advance. You may sign up in the athletic offices at the GHS and the GMS. Payments of $20 and physical forms should be brought along when making your appointment. If we don’t fill all the spots, walk-ins will be allowed at the end of the evening. For Goshen High School students, parents should contact Mrs. Jan Schrock at jschrock@goshenschools.org or call 533-0652 to make an appointment. For Goshen Middle School students, parents should contact Mrs. Sue Egli at segli@goshenschools.org or call 534-6436. It is very important that parents complete the health historical page in detail before the students can begin the physical exam process. Forms can be picked up at the GMS or GHS athletic offices or found online at goshenredhawks.org under the More tab. The money collected from this event is used to pay for GHS training room supplies and a scholarship for a training student. However, no student will be turned away for price. Please let Mrs. Schrock or Mrs. Egli know of your need when you make your appointment.
Key Club will be collecting personal care items for the Parent Comfort Cart at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis from April 9th-13th. REMINDER: YOU MUST BE STAYING AFTER SCHOOL FOR SOMETHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS – The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school. This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity. Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner. The cafeteria will stay open until 3:55 p.m. to hand out the snacks. All students picking up the healthy snack after school will need to eat their snack in the cafeteria. We appreciate your cooperation with this adjustment that is mandated by the state of Indiana in order to continue this program.
If you are a student that leaves the building at any time during normal school hours then you must have a sticker on your ID if it’s for a class (PACT, Building Trades, EACC, Merit, shortened schedules, Red Zone, internship, yearbook, etc.) that indicates that or a blue pass from the office indicating that you have permission to leave. Building Trades, EACC and Red Zone students are also required to sign out at the Welcome Center before leaving.
