8-7-20 GCS Statement re: COVID-19
GCS Parents:
Goshen Community Schools officials were notified on the evening of August 6, 2020 that a student athlete tested positive for COVID-19, following the positive test of a family member. Goshen Community Schools has worked closely with the Elkhart County Health Department on mitigation and contact tracing. The athlete followed all the health department and school protocols related to physical distancing, keeping close interactions to less than 15 minutes and wearing a mask at all times when not participating in rigorous exercise. The protocols, along with the student’s responsible relay of information to the coach, prevented any additional people from needing to self-isolate.
In our investigation into the situation, we found that our coaches, athletes, and teams are doing a good job of keeping their physical distance, wearing masks, using hand sanitizer, and doing all they can to keep everyone healthy.
We will continue to maintain mitigating standards and work closely with the Elkhart County Health Department in all COVID-19 situations. We thank you for your continued cooperation with our established COVID-19 protocols since they are essential for maintaining a safe environment for all students and staff. Please contact Steve Hope, Interim Superintendent with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dr. Steven Hope
Goshen Community Schools Interim Superintendent
