Goshen High School Marine Biology Course Day 4

Students load the pontoon boat for the first trip out to Indian Key. Students en route to Indian Key.

The day started at 6:00 for the athletes and exercisers in training while everyone else was cheerfully awakened by Mama J and Mrs. J. at 7:00. First-year students finished up the algae seminars and attended a seminar on Annelida and Echinodermata. The highlight of the afternoon excursions was our first set of trips to Indian Key to snorkel over the coral reef. A nurse shark was sighted, along many different types of beautiful coral.

The evening adventures included a trip to the Everglades. The group was subject to high drama as the alligators were very numerous and active. Most of the group witnessed a very large gator eating a meal of gar (a type of fish). What an incredible sound that was to hear the gator crunching his meal!

Students load the bus for the trip to the Everglades. Carl in conference with Gerald prior to the trip to the Everglades.

Carl in conference with Joe and John regarding the day's events. Our own alligator hunters!
