Day 6 -- Algae and excursions

We are all hoping that the snow you are getting is over when we get back so we can show off our tans! Today was another work day for the students with algae seminars, excursions and continuing the lab work. Its evening now, everyone is fed and most are out playing volleyball or cards or sitting on the sea wall watching the moon come up with the cool (75 degree?) breeze in the palms.

Five of the students successfully completed their SCUBA certification today on Alligator Reef about 4 miles out to sea from the Star of the Sea Hotel.

Everyone is excited about the activities tomorrow. Most are going to John Pennicamp State Park where we will board a boat that will take us snorkling on the reef. About eight of us will go SCUBA diving at Pennicamp. And some have requested a glass-bottom boat for viewing the reef. When we get back to the hotel late in the afternoon, we just have time to get cleaned up and respectable for going to the Whale Harbor in and stuffing ourselves! After that (since the students are, for once, in something other than swimming suits) we will take all the "formal" pictures of the students, eating groups, etc. So... be forewarned that there will likely only be one picture posting tomorrow late, but there should be LOTS of pictures to show you from the day! If you notice that we have lost your student, let us know right away...

Here are some pictures from today ...
