Last Day of School Attendance – Students, if you have plans to be gone for the last day of school, PLEASE make sure your parents have called in for you BEFORE THE DAY OF! There will be a lot to process and if you wait till the last minute, it may not get done on time. Thank you for your cooperation!
Auditions for next year’s choirs are happening NOW! Schedule your time in the choir office (5300) ASAP!
Are you an EACC student taking an IB exam? If so, please see either Mrs. Kuiper, Mrs. Collins, or Mr. Nichols to get your attendance letter in order to excuse your absence at EACC from when you were taking the IB exam.
Cinco de Mayo Celebration: MYD and MYA will bring food TODAY and Friday during lunch. Come and enjoy the sopes, tacos, and tostadas!
The Goshen Community Schools Foundation is offering Major Saver cards for sale. Elementary students will be selling the $15 cards featuring 20 buy-one-get-one-free offers until Monday, May 14th. The 2018 participating restaurants/establishments include: Mega Blast Laser Tag, Mancino’s, Lux Café, Buffalo Wild Wings, Goshen Brewing Co., CiCi’s, Universal Tamal, Wendy’s, Trolley Café, McDonald’s, Goshen Family Restaurant, Papa John’s, Dutch Maid Bakery, The Electric Brew, DQ, Maple City Bowl, El Camino Real, Culver’s, Maple City Market, and Pride’s Express Carwash. The unified track & field team will host the 2nd Annual Goshen Invitational Friday at 5:30 p.m. Come on out and cheer on the RedHawks at beautiful Foreman Field.
Student Faculty Senate will have their last meeting of the school year TOMORROW at 7:45 a.m. in the media center. All club sponsors are expected to attend and club members are encouraged to attend.
IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week: This past weekend the NFL held their annual draft. Two of the first three picks were quarterbacks and over 200 college players were selected for the opportunity to play on Sundays. However, it was the quote from the 3rd player taken, by the New York Jets, that caught my attention. Sam Darnold, the quarterback out of the University of Southern California, had the classiest comment after his name was called. Upon leaving the stage after his selection, Darnold said, “Whatever the coaches want me to do, whether they want me to sit or want me to play, I want to star in my role.” In this day of self-promoting athletes, it’s great to see that this up and coming professional player has the proper outlook. High school student-athletes need more role models that they can look up to and emulate. Let’s hope more athletes at all levels share Darnold’s philosophy and star in their role!

Stop in to support our GHS artists at the Spring Art Show that is taking place during First Friday’s in Goshen on Friday at the Goshen Youth Arts House at 324 S. 5th Street from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Awards will be presented at 6:00 p.m.
Join us in Goshen on Saturday, June 9th for the Puerto Rico Rising 5k run/walk. Your run or brisk walk will take you along the Winona Interurban Trail, a paved surface that connects Bethany and Goshen College. The run will be followed with food, drinks, age group awards, CASH PRIZES and a raffle. A free t-shirt is included with registration. Attention SENIORS: Please stop by the guidance department and pick up forms to let us know what college you would like your final transcript sent to, and to fill out a form for any scholarships that you have received.
If you are a current junior, and have an interest in politics and our community, you should consider running for the Goshen City Council Youth Advisor position. The election is open to any junior and will be held May 22nd at GHS. If you have any questions please see Mr. Weldy in 2360 or talk to Jason Barahona. All interested candidates can pick up an information packet from Mr. Weldy.
Attention: It’s that time of year again to get your lunch accounts paid off. Starting on May 9th, you will NOT be able to purchase any a la carte items if you have a negative balance on your lunch account. Seniors: You need to get your negative lunch balances paid by the end of the school year!
Prom tickets are now being sold for $45 each during lunches Tuesday-Friday through Friday, May 11th. Merit students may purchase tickets at Merit. Outside guest forms are available in the main office from Mrs. Wolfe. If you have questions please email Ms. Poling at bpoling@goshenschools.org. If you purchase your ticket by next Friday, May 4th, your name will be entered into a drawing. The winner will get a free ticket…..as in, you get your $45 refunded to you! Tickets will remain $45 through Wednesday, May 9th. On May 10th and May 11th the price will increase to $50 per ticket.
Seniors & Juniors Who Are Graduating Early: If you still need to order a cap and gown you can visit their web site at www.highschool.herffjones.com to place an order or see Mrs. Gardner as she has some on hand. You will need $60 cash to purchase one of these from Mrs. Gardner. If you only need a tassel, you will need $10 cash. Please have exact change. If you missed delivery day and still need to pick up your items, please stop by room 2290 and pick up your items from Mrs. Gardner. If you have already graduated, are a Merit student or your parents are coming in to pick up your items it is easier if you e-mail Mrs. Gardner (rgardner@goshenschools.org) ahead of time so she can have your stuff waiting at the welcome center for you.
WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.
Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in the media center from 3:45-5:00 p.m. A bus will be available around 5:10 p.m. (5:20 p.m. on Tuesdays) if you need a ride home. It will pick you up at the south end of circle drive by the flag pole. This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.
It is that time of year again for the annual GHS Prom Dress Drive! The purpose of this drive is to provide free dresses for students who want to go to the prom but may be in financial need. We have several dresses in various styles and sizes to choose from. If you are in need of a prom dress or if you wish to donate a gently used dress, please contact Mrs. Hershberger or Mrs. Shakley. You may also ask your SRT teacher for more information.
REMINDER: YOU MUST BE STAYING AFTER SCHOOL FOR SOMETHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS – The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school. This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity. Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner. The cafeteria will stay open until 3:55 p.m. to hand out the snacks. All students picking up the healthy snack after school will need to eat their snack in the cafeteria. We appreciate your cooperation with this adjustment that is mandated by the state of Indiana in order to continue this program.
If you are a student that leaves the building at any time during normal school hours then you must have a sticker on your ID if it’s for a class (PACT, Building Trades, EACC, Merit, shortened schedules, Red Zone, internship, yearbook, etc.) that indicates that or a blue pass from the office indicating that you have permission to leave. Building Trades, EACC and Red Zone students are also required to sign out at the Welcome Center before leaving.
Online yearbook sales are set up! All you have to do is go to www.yearbookordercenter.com and enter our school code (14723) to order your yearbook or yearbook ad.
Just a reminder that if you are coming to see Ms. Tovar you need to check in with the staff in the main office and fill out a request to see her. She will send a white pass for you as she has time. Please do not cut through the nurse’s office to get to her. You need to enter through the main office.

MEETINGS DURING SRT:
Key Club will have its last meeting of the year TOMORROW during the 2nd session of SRT in the cafeteria.
Student Athletic Council will meet TOMORROW during the 2nd session of SRT. At this meeting, you can sign up to help with the Unified Track meet this Friday night, discuss and plan fan appreciation nights at spring events, discuss current events in GHS athletics, and complete a leadership activity. All current juniors and seniors who competed in sports this school year are eligible to attend. At the Student Athletic council meeting, we would also like any students interested in Unified Flag Football for next fall to attend this meeting. If you are interested and cannot attend, please contact Mr. Smuts during the school day in person or by email.
Any boy interested in playing football next fall should attend a call out meeting on Tuesday, May 8th in the Main Gym during the 2nd session of SRT. We’ll discuss the summer schedule, collect information, and talk about the future of our program. There will be a lot of information discussed. Please plan to attend!

The girls track & field team participated at the John Reed Relays at East Noble High School on Saturday, April 28th. The team placed 4th out of eight teams. Results were as follows:

Boys varsity baseball won 6-2 and moves to 13-3 overall. Joe Good was the winning pitcher and moves to 2-0 on the season. Will Koshmider got the save. Robbie Riegsecker was 3-3 with two doubles.
The girls tennis team fell to Plymouth Tuesday night. Joya Drenth went 2-0 in her JV matches. Courtney Sloop, Maiah Huffman, and Sydney Penner also won on the JV side. The team is back in action Wednesday as they host Memorial on Senior Night.
