IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week: Have you ever been leery or unsure of playing for a new coach? Coaching changes are very common in this day and age, and whether it’s moving on from the freshmen team to junior varsity to varsity, every athlete goes through this experience. How will you adjust? Sometimes you look forward to a change, and other times you will be apprehensive. Regardless, you have to prepare yourself to be ready, especially mentally ready. A quote from a newly appointed football coach in the SEC said it best. “The team is much more willing than I anticipated, much more eager than I expected, more unified than I ever imagined.” Change will be much smoother if you and your teammates are willing, eager, and unified! Can you help lead the way?

The Goshen Public Library doesn’t just lend books! We also offer FREE activities for young adults. Stop in on Thursdays after school from 4:00-6:00 p.m. to hang out, study, find an independent reading book, play a board game, color or just chillax at the teen café! We’ll also have hot chocolate and coffee. Our two NEW clubs are continuing in March! Weebz Anonymous, our manga club, meets first and third Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. and Courageous Pages, our creative writing club, meets fourth Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the teen area. Our regular monthly programming continues on Friday, March 11th with our Nerd’s Night Out: International Iron Chef from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a taste-test game, menu creation contest and cooking contest with prizes! Pages & Popcorn Club happens Thursday, March 17th from 5:30-8:00 p.m. We’ll talk about the book Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and watch the movie (rated PG-13).  Finally, our regular programming will conclude this month with the Crafty Bandits, which will meet up on Monday, March 28th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to have snacks and learn how to play with electricity to “hack” art and book cover prints to decorate the teen area. To sign up, or for more information about our programs, stop by the library or check out our GPL Teens webpage, Facebook or Twitter.

The Unified Track & Field and the Student Athletic Council will be sponsoring a “Spread the Word to End the Word” day on Thursday, March 11th.  Students and staff, we invite you to be a fan of respect and join us in an ongoing campaign to stop the use of the R-word and pledge #Respect for everyone.  Over 500,000 people have pledged their support online since the campaign launched in 2009 and we hope you can join us by making your pledge to end the use of the R-word.  Please come by the commons before school or during lunch hours on the 11th to sign the banner to symbolize your promise to help end the “R” word!  Visit www.R-word.org for more information on this national program and to make your pledge online!
