Congratulations to Wesley VanHooser on being selected to the Region 2 All-Star Team. He is one step closer to being selected to play in the Indiana North/South All-Star Football Classic held in July. Way to go Wes!
All 9th-11th grade students and their families are invited to explore the Elkhart Area Career Center’s many programs at their annual open house on Sunday, January 26th from 1:30-3:30 p.m. All of their programs offer TUITION FREE college credit and/or industry certification while attending high school! Check out their Facebook and Twitter pages or go to myeacc.org for more info about their programs.
Davenport University Esports head coach Colin Graham will be visiting the Esports Club on Tuesday, January 28th. Please visit https://dupanthers.com/sports/esports to see more information. He will share how colleges recruit and talk about possible scholarship options available for anyone wanting to pursue Esports after high school.

Intramural soccer signups are now underway. You can pick up a team sign up form or individual sign up form from the bench in front of the athletic office or from Lucas Kauffman. The cost is $8 unless you played intramural basketball. If you played intramural basketball, and would like an additional shirt, the cost would be $5. All money and forms are due by Friday, January 31st.
The Delta Theta Chi Sorority scholarship is now available in the student counseling office. The deadline is Sunday, February 1st.
Merit on the Move will be starting on Tuesday, February 4th and run through Wednesday, May 6th. We will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:45-5:45 p.m. in the APEX lab. If you need to earn a credit to catch up or to get ahead on graduation requirements, this is a great way to get what you need. Courses started in Merit on the Move MUST be finished by May 6th, so attendance is important. If you have a job, play a sport or have a musical time conflict, let us know and we may be able to work something out. Please contact Mr. Wolf (pwolf@goshenschools.org), Mrs. Miller (almiller@goshenschools.org) or your counselor for more information. We only have 40 spots and they will go fast, so sign up soon!
There will be a Culver’s Giveback Night for the TOK 2020 Bee House Project from 5-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4th. Mark your calendars to support saving the bees!
The Elkhart County Farm Bureau Scholarship is available in the counseling office or on their website at https://www.infarmbureau.org/CountyDistrictApplications. The deadline is Sunday, March 1st. Your parent/guardian has to have been a member of Elkhart County Farm Bureau for at least three years and you must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply.
The Ceres Solutions Scholarship is available. You can apply at www.ceres.coop or pick up a paper copy in the counseling office. You must be a four-year 4-H member or have two years in your local FFA program. The deadline is Sunday, March 1st.
Attention Seniors: The Community Foundation of Elkhart County has opened their 2020 scholarship application. Any high school senior who is seeking help for paying their higher education can apply at www.inspiringgood.org/community-foundation-scholarships/. With one single application you are able to apply to the 25+ scholarships that are currently available. The deadline is Monday, March 2nd at 5:00 p.m. If you have any questions please email Samantha Lambert at Samantha@InspiringGood.org.
The Niccum Educational Trust Foundation Scholarship is available in the counseling office. You must have financial need to apply. The deadline is Sunday, March 15th.

The Kiwanis Indiana Foundation Scholarship and the Purdue Alumni Club Foundation of Elkhart County Scholarship are available in the student counseling office.
The Carol Rinheart Memorial Medical Scholarship is available in the student counseling office. You must be graduating in the upper half of your class, be in need of financial assistance, and going into the nursing or medical related fields to qualify.
Senior Students – Nurse Wendy wants you to be aware that your immunizations must be up to date for many colleges, universities, or trade schools. Currently there are 239 seniors who need updated immunizations. If you are not sure if you need any, please contact Nurse Wendy.
Attention 2020 Spring Graduates – The scholarship application process for Dollars for Scholars is open. If you have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and plan to attend a college or technical school, you might quality for one of the 60 scholarships to be awarded. A detailed tutorial of the application process can be found at https://youtu.be/459R1oRPgTs. Liliana Embriz (the college coach here at GHS and a former Dollars for Scholars recipient) is available to help with any college or trade school questions. Just stop by Guidance to talk with her.
YOU MUST BE STAYING AFTER SCHOOL FOR SOMETHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS – The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school. This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity. Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner. The cafeteria will stay open until 3:50 p.m. to hand out the snacks. All students picking up the healthy snack after school will need to eat their snack in the cafeteria. We appreciate your cooperation with this adjustment that is mandated by the state of Indiana in order to continue this program. Student athletes are expected to get their snack immediately after school. They should change clothes for practice AFTER they get their snack.
Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in room 1190 from 3:45-4:50 p.m. You must be in room 1190 by 3:50 p.m. in order to stay for this. You are expected to exit the building through door M where a bus will be available at 5:00 p.m. if you need a ride home. This bus is for students who stay for after-hours help ONLY. This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.
Caps-to-Bench Update: Thanks to everyone that has been donating plastic caps and lids for the caps-to-bench project. Congratulations to the 1st semester SRT winners: 1st Place – Mr. Wolfe (pizza prize) and 2nd place – Ms. Bachman (cookie prize). We still need more plastic caps/lids (recycle #2, 4, 5), and they must be clean! How many can you save over break? There will be more prizes again for 2nd semester.
REMINDER: Any student driving needs to have a parking tag. You can get this in the Bookkeeper’s office. You need to have a valid license, valid registration, valid proof of insurance (this means that none of these can be expired), and $5. You don’t want to be the proud new owner of a big orange sticker.
You are under no circumstances allowed to lock your bike up to any fence or gate on school property. There has been a problem with students specifically doing this along the fence/gate to the soccer fields. If you continue to do this, your lock will be cut, and your bike will be removed. There are bike racks available, and they should be used. Thank you for your cooperation with this!
After school, it is expected that all students exit the building by 3:50 p.m. If you have an after school activity, you should report to the sponsor’s room responsible for that activity by 3:50 p.m. You are not to remain in the hallways or commons after 3:50 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation with this request.
Free/reduced lunch forms are available in the bookkeeper’s office, in the cafeteria and in guidance. Please pick one up if you need it!
WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to Mrs. Alcala in the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.
If you are a student that leaves the building at any time during normal school hours then you must have a sticker on your ID if it’s for a class (PACT, Building Trades, EACC, Merit, shortened schedules, Red Zone, internship, yearbook, etc.) that indicates that or a blue pass from the office indicating that you have permission to leave. GTV and Red Zone students are also required to sign out at the Welcome Center before leaving. You can get this sticker in the main office from Mrs. Wolfe or Mrs. Kuiper.
Just a reminder that if you are coming to see Ms. Tovar you need to check in with the staff in the main office and fill out a request to see her. She will send a white pass for you as she has time. Please do not cut through the nurse’s office to get to her. You need to enter through the main office.
MEETINGS DURING SRT:
There will be a callout meeting to form a prom committee on Thursday, January 23rd during the 2nd session of SRT in Whiteman Gym.
Any girls interested in track & field this spring must attend this mandatory call-out meeting on Thursday, January 30th during the 2nd session of SRT in the Main Gym. If you are unable to attend, please email Coach Willis at awillis@staff.goshenschools.org for the information given during the meeting.
SPORTS SCORES:
Boys JV basketball fell to Warsaw 49-39. Goshen was led in scoring by Deecon Hill with 17 points and Anders Revoir with 15 points.
Girls varsity swim & dive had another wonderful day of swimming at NLC Finals, finishing 5th as a team. Several swimmers qualified as top 10 fastest times in GHS history and many more dropped time resulting in personal bests for the season. Congratulations to the top 16 finishers who competed in finals today! It was a great day to be a RedHawk!
Girls varsity basketball fell to Warsaw 42-28. The leading scorer was Brynn-Shoup Hill with 13. Tori Eldridge added 8, Lizzy Kirkton 5, and Regan Mast 2.
Girls freshmen basketball lost to Warsaw 12-48. The RedHawks were led by Estrella Manzano with 4 points.
Boys JV basketball defeated Jimtown 46-31. Goshen was led in scoring by Anders Revoir with 14 points, Deecon Hill with 13 points, and Isaac Sawatzky with 10 points.
Girls JV basketball defeated Jimtown 41-19. Goshen was led in scoring by Breyana Cline with 15 points and Tyra Marcum with 11 points.
