REMINDER:  Students, please do NOT park in visitor’s spots!  This is continuing to be a problem.  OJ will write ordinance violation tickets starting TODAY to students caught parking illegally on school property.  The minimum fine in Goshen City Court is $165 for each violation.  Also, remember that you MUST have a parking permit on file with Mrs. Haney in the bookkeeper’s office to park on school property.  Requirements are a VALID license (not a permit), VALID proof of insurance, a VALID registration and $5.

The Ceres Solutions Scholarship is available in the Guidance Office and on the Guidance Department’s web page.  Eligibility Requirements are that you are a student who has been involved in four years of 4-H.

Due to testing, the Student Senate Faculty meeting scheduled for TODAY at 7:45 a.m. has been postponed, and is rescheduled for Thursday, December 14th at 7:45 a.m. in the media center.

Yearbook is looking for photos of you and your GHS friends!  Please email them to slong@staff.goshenschools.org.  You will need your name and grade plus the name and grade of any friends in the photos.  Don’t delay, send them today!

The Indiana Better Business Bureau Scholarship is due in the Guidance Department by TOMORROW!

All PE and FIT students are bowling next week.  Please turn in your permission slips to your teacher as soon as possible.

Key Club will be ringing bells at Walmart Supercenter on the south side of Goshen Friday, December 8th from 5-9:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 9th from 2-4:00 p.m.  Students and staff, please consider donating to the Salvation Army during our bell ringing shifts.  Key Club volunteers, please check your email this week to confirm your shift time and location.  Volunteers are still needed on Saturday.  Contact Mrs. Dubash or Mrs. Dillman if you can help.

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week:  Wisconsin linebacker Garrett Dooley was quoted in the Indy Star as saying, “If you have a bad play, you have to forget about it. I think this year we’ve done a really good job of forgetting about last season and moving forward, preparing every single week.”  In all sports and in most games or matches, there comes a time when you must move on from a bad play, a bad call or an unlucky break.  Are you capable of doing so?  Although there is no simple answer on how to move on, I will suggest that controlling your emotions is the key.  Having a short-term memory on a bad play or tough call will help get you focused and keep your emotions intact on the next play.  Athletes who can concentrate on the play ahead instead of looking back will be the ones that are the most successful!

Girls’ Golf will hold open gym in the warehouse on Thursdays from 7:45-8:30 p.m.  Bring your clubs and make sure to dress warm if the temperature outside is cold!  Contact Coach Walesa or Coach Pecenka if you have any questions.  We hope to see you there!

Sign-ups for intramural basketball will continue through Friday, December 22nd. The cost is $8 per person, and you must have a concussion form on file with the athletic office. Individual sign up forms, and team sign up forms can be picked up from Lucas Kauffman, or the athletic office.  All forms and money must be turned in to Mr. Kauffman before December 22nd. If you have questions, please e-mail Lucas Kauffman.

Baseball conditioning sessions are taking place at the Chandler Gym on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 a.m.  If attending, park or get dropped off on Cottage and enter from the back of the school.  Doors will open at 6:15 a.m.  You must have athletic paperwork on file in the Athletic Office to participate.  Address questions to Coach Collins in the library.

Freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior football players should see Coach Weldy this week in 2360 to sign up to work concessions Saturday at the boys basketball game.

Attention Students:  Herff Jones will be here on Tuesday, December 12th before school for class ring delivery, and for senior orders for caps and gowns, graduation announcements and other senior items.  Extra packets are available in the main office.

Any student interested in pole vaulting for the boy’s and girl’s track teams can attend open vault sessions in the warehouse on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. through Christmas break. Coach Place will be there to provide his coaching expertise along with our senior returning letter winner and Conference, Sectional and Regional Champion, as well as State Qualifier Lucas De Moya and other top vaulters from last season.  This is a great opportunity to try a challenging event.  Please be on time and be ready to participate.  Contact Coach Clark or Willis if you have any questions.

Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in the media center from 3:45-5:00 p.m.  A bus will be available around 5:10 p.m. (5:20 p.m. on Tuesdays) if you need a ride home.  It will pick you up at the south end of circle drive by the flag pole.  This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.

Goshen Community Schools will host a public meeting to further explain the Strategic Planning Facilities Committee recommendation to the school board.  Their recommendation was to proceed with building a new 5-8 Intermediate School on the school-owned property at SR 119 and Greene Road, and to convert the current Goshen Middle School to a 5-8 Intermediate School as well.  Please plan to attend to learn more about the rationale that led to this recommendation and to give your input.  There will be table group discussions held following the presentation in order to receive feedback from the public.  Meetings will be held at these locations and times:

  • Tuesday, December 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the Goshen Middle School Cafeteria

Anyone interested in Ski Club for the 2018 season needs to see Mrs. Clark in room 2280.  Forms and money are due by December 15th.

ATTENTION ALL SRT CLASSES:  We will have a competition between all of the SRT’s to see who can collect the most bottle caps.  Starting this week, there will be bins in each SRT classroom and the caps will be collected every week. The winning SRT with the most caps will get HOMEMADE CINNAMON ROLLS or a PIZZA PARTY!  The competition will end before Spring Break.  If we collect 400 pounds as a school, we will be able to recycle them into a park bench.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity to save the environment and win a prize!  If you would like to collect or sort caps during SRT contact Mrs. Swihart in room 2200 or email her at cswihart@staff.goshenschools.org.  It will count for NHS volunteer hours and it looks great on college applications!
