GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2016                                 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Last week the Goshen News and Mayor Stutsman released more information about the Goshen City Council Youth Advisor position.  This position will be elected by the GHS student body.  If you are a senior and are interested in running for this position, please see Mrs. Clark in room 2280.

Any student wanting to apply for free/reduced lunch this school year will need to have the forms filled out and turned in before September 19th.  Forms are available in the main office from Mrs. Haney, the bookkeeper.

Any student interested in doing Merit on the Move should contact their guidance counselor.  Merit on the Move is an opportunity to earn a credit you are missing after school with an Apex course. Merit on the Move will start on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. in the Apex Lab, room 1060.  There are still a few spots open.  If you are interested, talk to your counselor ASAP.  The class meets Wednesdays and Thursdays after school in the Apex room.

If you missed Herff Jones, they will return on Thursday from 7:45-8:15 a.m. to take cap and gown/graduation orders.  Students, GET YOUR ORDERS IN to avoid late fees!

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field.  If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Mr. Brubaker, Lucas Kauffman, or Mrs. Stealy in the main office.  The paperwork should be turned in to Lucas Kauffman the first time you attend.

The boys varsity football team lost to the Northwood Panthers, 35-12, on Friday night.

On a rain soaked day, the Lady RedHawks battled their Northern Lakes Conference foes at McCormick Creek Golf Course in Nappanee.  Goshen shot 491 to finish 8th while Northwood bested the field posting a 340.  Concord was 2nd with a 377 followed by Warsaw firing a 378. Olivia Lehr led the Lady RedHawks shooting a 116, followed by senior Megan Fleischer posting a 123.  Olivia Thomas (124) and Katie Kercher (128) rounded out the scoring for the team.

The boys varsity soccer team beat St. Joe 2-0.  Goshen goal scorers were Ciro Agular and Juan Castaneda.  Lucas Bontreger had an assist.  They beat Marion 3-1 as well.  Goshen goal scorers were Marcos Hernandez (2) and Lucas Bontreger.  Lucas Bontreger had two assists.

The boys JV soccer team defeated St. Joe 3-0.  Goshen goal scorers were Max Flores, Saulo Luna and Chris Losano.  Goshen assists were Ricardo Vargez and Eduardo Rodriguez.  They also beat Marion 3-0.  Goshen goal scorers were Chris Losano, Roman Zamora-Perez and Saulo Luna.

The boys cross country team finished 6th at the County Clash.  Jason Barahona finished 9th followed by Zach Oyer 26th, Angel Arreola 41st, Irving Suarez 49th, Sergei Culp 51st, Ben Sommers 57th and Nate Ganger 70th.

The girls cross country team placed 13th at the County Clash.  Ariana Perez-Diener came in 13th, Kirsten Graves 34th, Julieta Walton-Clark 76th, Persis Wade 79th, Brandi Smith 83rd, Elena Meyer-Reimer 87th and Veronica Qurioz 88th.

The varsity boys tennis match against Lakeland was postponed due to rain.  The make-up date has been set for Friday.

The boys JV tennis team competed at Culver Military Academy on Saturday on their indoor courts due to rain.  Wes Beck, Ryan Harmelink, Austin Peeler, Ben Bontrager-Singer, Drake Crowder, Josh Haimes and Wyatt Fisher all went 2-1 on the day to finish 3rd at their positions.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The girls JV and varsity golf teams will host Fairfield and Mishawaka Marian at 5:00 p.m.

The girls JV and varsity soccer teams will compete at Westview.  JV plays at 5:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 6:45 p.m.

The girls freshman volleyball team will play against Concord and Northridge at Northridge at 5:00 p.m.

The boys JV and varsity tennis teams will play at South Bend St. Joseph at 5:00 p.m.

The boys JV football team will play at Northwood at 6:00 p.m.
