Boys soccer players from the JV team and C team need to turn in their fundraiser money to the athletic office by the end of the day TODAY.
GHS is offering a lifeguarding class next semester. If you have any interest in becoming a certified lifeguard or renewing a current lifeguarding certification please contact your counselor THIS week to reserve a spot in the class.
Boys basketball will be working football concessions TONIGHT. All boys planning to play basketball this season need to see Coach Wohlford to sign up to work.
The Crimson Marching Band will compete Saturday at the Penn Invitational at 10:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in the band office for $6 each. Correct change is appreciated.
GHS is hosting the 2019 Elkhart County College Fair on Monday, September 30th. The event runs from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and will take place in Whiteman Gym and the cafeteria. Over 70 colleges and military branches will be represented. Financial aid experts will also be available to share information and answer questions about the college financial aid process. Student planning to attend are encouraged to register for the fair through Strive Scan. The process is free, only takes a few minutes, and will save you time as you meet with college reps at the fair. Go to StriveFair.com to register for a barcode.
Goshen College will be in the guidance office on Thursday, October 3rd from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. for on-site admissions. Stop by the guidance office to sign up for a time slot.
IUSB will be here for on-site admissions on Thursday, October 10th from 9:00 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. Please sign up in the guidance office for a time slot. They will be giving away some $500 scholarships!
On-site admissions from Purdue Fort Wayne will be in the Guidance Office on Friday, October 11th from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please stop by Guidance and sign up for a time slot to meet with the admissions counselor. Please fill out the online application during College Go Week (September 23-29) and this will be FREE! The application needs to be filled out BEFORE you come for your meeting. If you have any questions, please stop in guidance and ask.

The 2018-2019 yearbooks have arrived and are being delivered to SRT classes! If you didn’t order a yearbook but would like one, you can email Ms. Pobocik at ppobocik@staff.goshenschools.org. We have a very limited number of yearbooks available for purchase which will go on a first come, first serve basis. If you know a 2019 graduate who ordered a yearbook, please have them email Ms. Pobocik to set up a time to pick it up.
It’s time to register for your IB exams! Please turn in your completed form to Mrs. Haney in the main office. Also, you don’t need to pay in full when you turn in the form. Please take care of this as soon as possible!
Key Club and Environmental Club are collecting caps for benches. We are trying to get enough for two benches. Please deliver CLEAN #2, 4 or 5 caps or lids to your SRT before October 31st. The SRT with the most caps/lids collected will receive pizza. The SRT that comes in 2nd will receive cookies. Please help our school have comfortable places to sit.
Homework help is available every Tuesday and Thursday in room 1190 from 3:45-4:50 p.m. You must be in room 1190 by 3:50 p.m. in order to stay for this. You are expected to exit the building through door M where a bus will be available at 5:00 p.m. if you need a ride home. This bus is for students who stay for after-hours help ONLY. This is a great opportunity if you just need a little extra time or even just a quiet place to do your homework at the end of the day.
YOU MUST BE STAYING AFTER SCHOOL FOR SOMETHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS – The GHS cafeteria is offering free after school snacks every day after school. This program is for any student who is staying after school. All student-athletes, club members, music participants, drama participants, after school homework help kids, etc. are strongly encouraged to stop by the cafeteria after school and take advantage of this generous opportunity. Students just need to show their ID and they can grab a healthy snack to go that will hold them over during their after school activities until dinner. The cafeteria will stay open until 3:50 p.m. to hand out the snacks. All students picking up the healthy snack after school will need to eat their snack in the cafeteria. We appreciate your cooperation with this adjustment that is mandated by the state of Indiana in order to continue this program. Student athletes are expected to get their snack immediately after school. They should change clothes for practice AFTER they get their snack.
REMINDER: Any student driving needs to have a parking tag. You can get this through Mrs. Haney in the Bookkeeper’s office. You need to have a valid license, valid registration, valid proof of insurance (this means that none of these can be expired), and $5. You don’t want to be the proud new owner of a big orange sticker.
You are under no circumstances allowed to lock your bike up to any fence or gate on school property. There has been a problem with students specifically doing this along the fence/gate to the soccer fields. If you continue to do this, your lock will be cut, and your bike will be removed. There are bike racks available, and they should be used. Thank you for your cooperation with this!
After school, it is expected that all students exit the building by 3:50 p.m. If you have an after school activity, you should report to the sponsor’s room responsible for that activity by 3:50 p.m. You are not to remain in the hallways or commons after 3:50 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation with this request.
Free/reduced lunch forms are available in the bookkeeper’s office, in the cafeteria and in guidance. Please pick one up if you need it!
WORK PERMITS: When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit. Please bring completed forms to the main office in the morning and they will be completed by the end of the school day.
If you are a student that leaves the building at any time during normal school hours then you must have a sticker on your ID if it’s for a class (PACT, Building Trades, EACC, Merit, shortened schedules, Red Zone, internship, yearbook, etc.) that indicates that or a blue pass from the office indicating that you have permission to leave. GTV and Red Zone students are also required to sign out at the Welcome Center before leaving. You can get this sticker in the main office from Mrs. Wolfe or Mrs. Kuiper.
Just a reminder that if you are coming to see Ms. Tovar you need to check in with the staff in the main office and fill out a request to see her. She will send a white pass for you as she has time. Please do not cut through the nurse’s office to get to her. You need to enter through the main office.
MEETINGS DURING SRT:
French Club will meet Tuesday, October 1st during BOTH sessions of SRT. We will learn about and play petanque, a southern France lawn game, and have a picnic. Please bring a snack to share! Feel free to attend both sessions or only one session.
Attention girls and gmen interested in cheering for basketball season – We will have a callout meeting on Tuesday, October 8th during the 2nd session of SRT on the upper deck of the main gym by the cheer closet. Email Coach Kristy at kristy.sloan@goshenschools.org if you are unable to attend.
The GHS Book Club will be reading Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card for their meeting on Thursday, October 10th. Students and staff will meet during the 2nd session of SRT to discuss the book with yummy snacks! Get your own copy of the book or come to room 3180 to check one out from GHS. Contact Mr. De Kleine, Emily Brugh, or Noemi Vela with further questions or to be included on the e-mail list.
SPORTS SCORES:
Boys freshmen football was in action against Concord. The RedHawks fought hard and the game couldn’t be settled in regulation being tied 14-14. Goshen lost a hard fought game 20-14 in overtime. Leading the offense for the RedHawks was Quinn Bechtel. He had two passing touchdowns. Colin Vidmar had the first touchdown catch. Nathan Pinarski had the second touchdown catch. Colin Vidmar also ran the ball well. Defensively, the RedHawks were led by Peyton Hall. He was everywhere on the field. He had multiple tackles for loss as well as two quarterback sacks. Fabian Macias and Noah Alford also had multiple tackles and a couple of big hits as well. The team is 2-2 and 1-1 in the NLC.
Girls JV soccer won 1-0 against John Adams. Mia Diaz had the goal. Meggy VanHooser had four saves. The girls are now 6-2-2 for the season.
Girls varsity soccer lost 1-2 against John Adams. Alessandra Lozano scored the goal with an assist from Regan Mast. Abril Diaz had four saves. The girls are now 5-7-1 for the season.
Boys varsity soccer traveled to Warsaw, and put up a fight against the Tigers who currently are at the top of the NLC on the boys side, but lost by a score of 1-2. The goal for Goshen was from Chris Lozano. Ricardo Garcia had an assist. The loss puts the record for the varsity team at 8-6, and 4-3 in the NLC.
Boys JV soccer tied Warsaw 1-1. Alejandro Pedroza scored a goal. Goshen is now 11-0-3 and 4-0-3 in conference.
Girls varsity volleyball defeated Concord in straight sets 3-0.
IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:
Boys varsity football will host Warsaw at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday:
Girls varsity soccer will play at LaVille at 10:00 a.m.
Boys varsity tennis will compete in NLC finals at Concord at 9:00 a.m.
Girls varsity volleyball will play in the Crown Point Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
Boys and girls varsity cross country will run in the New Haven Classic at 9:00 a.m.
Boys soccer will host Mishawaka Marian. JV plays at 10:00 a.m., followed by varsity at 12:00 p.m.
Boys JV football will play at Warsaw at 10:00 a.m.
