The Prom Committee will be selling tickets from March 31st (Tuesday) to April 24th (Friday) from Tuesday through Friday. The price for prom tickets will be $40 this year and will increase up to $45 the last two days so make sure to purchase your tickets soon. We will NOT be selling prom tickets at the door!

Do you enjoy running and being active? Looking for ways to be involved in the community or bank volunteer/community service hours? Move It! Michiana is hosting the second-annual Move It! Michiana 5k & One-mile walk/run in August to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana. During lunch on Friday, March, 20th, representatives from Move It! Michiana will be set up to in the commons to promote race registration and signing up students who would like to volunteer on race day! Stop by and talk to Sarah and Amber about how YOU can get involved on August 29th.

Softball practice has begun!!  If you are trying out, please report to the main gym after school.  Locker room #3 is your locker room and if you have not already confirmed your eligibility in the athletic office, please do so today.

Girls Tennis, Boys Golf, and Baseball all start Monday, 3/16.  Please stop by the athletic office this week if you still need to submit paperwork for eligibility.

There will be a drama club meeting in room 3190 after school on Thursday, March 19. This meeting is for anyone interested in one acts or next year’s fall play; there will be information about auditions and rehearsals. One Acts auditions are after school on Monday and Tuesday, March 23 and 24 in 3190 until all have auditioned. If anyone has questions, email Ms. Pobocik (ppobocik@staff.goshenschools.org) or talk to a junior or senior drama student!

Purdue University Fort Wayne will be hosting their Spring Campus Visit day where you can ask questions about majors, internships, financial aid and get the opportunity to speak with professors. The visit is on Sunday, March 22, from 1PM to 5PM. If you would like to attend, please register online by clicking here.

Unified Track and Field has begun! Meet after school in Coach Smuts’ room for this year (1100).  We will be practicing after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays until 5:15pm.  The first practice will be a lot of information but please plan to attend and also let friends know who may be interested.  We are especially looking for out of season athletes and people who just want to try a sport.  Email Coach Smuts (ssmuts@goshenschools.org) and let him know if you are interested in being on the team and joining the Inclusion Revolution or if you have questions. The Parent Player Meeting for Unified Track will be on 3/19 (after the start of practices). Please make sure your paperwork is turned into Mrs. Schrock including your Code of Conduct, Physical, and Concussion paperwork.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available for filing from now until April 15, 2020.  To give yourself the best chance to secure financial assistance complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.  If you’ve started the application but are stuck, if you have specific questions about it, or if you’re just unsure about completing it on your own – you’re in luck!  GHS is hosting a FAFSA Completion Night on Monday, March 9th in the cafeteria.  A financial expert from InvestEd as well as the GHS School Counselors will be on hand to provide assistance to students and families.  If you’re interested in attending stop in the School Counseling Office to pick up a handout of what you need to being with you on the 9th.

Indiana University-South Bend will be having their Multicultural Student Showcase Day TODAY, March 13, 2020. This event includes guest speakers, Q&A session, campus tour, and an informational breakout session. If you are interested in attending, you can pick up a field trip permission slip in the guidance office with Ms. Embriz or in the main office with Ms. Tovar. This event is for juniors and seniors only.

It is that time of year again for the annual GHS Prom Dress Drive.  The purpose of this drive is to provide free dresses for students who want to go to the prom but may be in financial need.  We have several dresses in various styles and sizes to choose from.  If you are in need of a prom dress or if you wish to donate a gently used dress, please contact Mrs. Hershberger in Room 3220 or Mrs. Shakley in Room 2140.  You may also ask one of your teachers to help you get in contact with one of us.

Girls’ tennis conditioning will be after school until 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please meet in the 2nd floor hallway after changing into workout clothes and please bring water.

Attention Seniors & Juniors Graduating Early:  If you haven’t ordered your cap and gown yet, you can order online at www.jostens.com.  Just a reminder that if you have ordered, they will be here on Tuesday, April 28th for Cap & Gown Delivery Day during SRT at the athletic concession stand by the main gym.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

The Cass County Conservation Club Scholarship is now available in the student counseling office.  You must be going into conservation/and or agriculture to qualify.    Scholarship is due on 5/1/20.

The Stifel 2020 Scholarship Essay Contest is available in the student counseling office.  This is a $2,000.00 scholarship for High School seniors.

The Niccum Educational Trust Foundation Scholarship is available in the counseling office.  You must have financial need to apply.  The deadline is THIS Sunday, March 15th.

The John & Dorothy Geyer Scholarship is available in the counseling office.  You must have financial need to apply.  The deadline is Wednesday, April 1st.

The Laura A. Kindig Scholarship is available in the student counseling office.  Applicants should be involved in the nursing or medical related fields.  The deadline is Wednesday, April 15th.

The Cpl. Aaron L. Seal Memorial Scholarship is available in the student counseling office.  You must have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average to qualify.

Attention 2020 Spring Graduates – The scholarship application process for Dollars for Scholars is open.  If you have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and plan to attend a college or technical school, you might quality for one of the 60 scholarships to be awarded.  A detailed tutorial of the application process can be found at https://youtu.be/459R1oRPgTs.  Liliana Embriz (the college coach here at GHS and a former Dollars for Scholars recipient) is available to help with any college or trade school questions.  Just stop by Guidance to talk with her.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Creative Writing Club: We will be meeting for the second to last time this school year during 2nd session of SRT on Thursday March 19. We will continue to look at setting with a focus on “recognizing the good” in a day. Hope to see you there!

There will be a boys’ soccer call out meeting on Tuesday, March 24th in the Whiteman gym during 2nd session of SRT.  Any boy interested in playing soccer in the fall should plan to attend.  We will be discussing our spring/summer schedule and activities. If you cannot attend the meeting, please contact coach V before Tuesday March 24th.

There will be a sideline cheerleading call out meeting for both football and basketball season on Tuesday, March 24th on the upper deck by the cheer closet during 2nd session of SRT. Anyone interested in participating in sideline cheerleading should plan to attend. Information on the summer schedule and team camp will be handed out.

There will be a football call out meeting on Tuesday, March 24th in the main gym during 2nd session of SRT.  Any boy interested in playing football in the fall should plan to attend.  We will be discussing our spring and summer schedule, team camp information will be passed out, and voting opportunities.  See you there!

The GHS Book Club will meet on Thursday, April 16th to discuss The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys.  We meet during the 2nd session of SRT in room 3180 to discuss the book over yummy snacks.  Interested students are responsible for getting a copy of the book and reading it.  If you have further questions or need assistance in getting a copy, please contact Mr. De Kleine, Noemi Vela, or Emily Brugh.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

Boys and Girls Track and Field:  The boys and girls track and field meet at Purdue Fort Wayne for the Bulldog Invite on March 14, 2020 has been canceled by the host school. The boys and girls track and field meet at IU Bloomington for the Hoosier State Relay Finals on March 28, 2020 has been canceled by the host school.
