GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 10, 2017

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Any GHS student that needs a winter jacket can stop by the administration building.

WORK PERMITS:  When you get a work permit EVERY box needs to be filled out on the Intent to Employ form before we will issue you the work permit.

REMINDER:  Students are to wear their IDs at all times.  You MUST have your ID to purchase a lunch in the cafeteria.  If you forget your ID you can get one at the Welcome Center for $1.  If you need a lanyard they are $1, or we can provide string for free.

Wrestlers, you need to sign up for your individual meetings with Coach Pickard this week.  The sign-up is on the wrestling office door.

Congratulations to Tyler Colpitts for rolling a 300 game in the MCB Masters League at Maple City Bowl!

SENIORS:  Please take note of this VERY IMPORTANT FINANCIAL AID DEADLINE!  If you would like to qualify for financial aid from the state of Indiana, please remember that you MUST file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by TODAY at midnight.  It must be done on-line, and you need to set up a FSA ID for you and your parents.  Go to fafsa.gov for more information or to file. We also have some handouts in the Guidance Office which might help you with the process.  Seniors who are 21st Century Scholars – YOU MUST DO THIS or you may lose this scholarship!  See this note from Ancilla College:  The deadline is TODAY.  If they haven’t received an FSA ID yet, that needs to happen ASAP– It can take 24 hours. Waiting until TODAY will be too late.  Students who file after TODAY miss out on ALL Indiana financial aid.  They may still apply for federal aid, but they will get nothing from Indiana.  This isn’t just for students interested in private colleges or state universities– it is important to any upcoming graduate of yours who will consider going to school in the next 12 months.

Monday, March 13th will be a Culver’s Give Back Night for the Champions Together Carnival hosted at GHS on March 24th.  Please consider dining at Culvers on Monday and a percentage of all sales that evening will be donated to the Champions Together Carnival!  Thank you for your support!  If you are interested in helping with the Give Back night or the Carnival, contact GHS Senior Cheyenne Kalb at kalbc1@students.goshenschools.org.

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week:  One of the great success stories this year is about a Division III basketball team, Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.  Their 27-0 record is only part of the story.  Their unconventional coach, Eric Bridgeland, is a realist who relates to his players in a very unique way.  The following quote from USA Today sums up his approach:  “If you could wish your team one thing, I would wish they are having a blast and that they don’t feel pressure.  So that’s what we are doing. In our team visualization before every game, we talk about being creative and enthusiastic in handling these awesome situations we get into.”  Do you visualize success before your game?  This may be a key to Whitman’s success and yours!

It’s time for the annual GHS Prom Dress Drive!  This purpose of this drive is to provide free dresses for students who want to go to the prom but may be in financial need.  We have several dresses in various styles and sizes to choose from.  If you are in need of a prom dress or if you wish to donate a gently used dress, please contact Mrs. Hershberger or Mrs. Shakley.  You may also ask your SRT teacher for more information.

The Goshen Band Boosters are hosting a shoe drive through April 9th and would love your help! They’re collecting gently used or new shoes which are then taken to other countries such as Haiti and given to micro-entrepreneurs.  The entrepreneurs refurbish the shoes into usable ones or other items of use and sell them to earn an income to help themselves and their families.  Take a look in your closets or wherever you may keep your shoes and see if you have a pair or two that you would be willing to donate.  You can even donate flip flops.  Bins will be placed around the school (as well as the Goshen area) that have a poster on them with the dos and don’ts of what is an acceptable shoe.  If you would like more information, or have any questions please feel free to contact Kristy Nissley at nissley1998@gmail.com.  *** Next Thursday, the Band Boosters are doing a Shoe Drive Blitz form 3:30-9:00 p.m.  If you bring a pair of shoes you will get a free Redzone cookie while supplies last.
