GHS ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR FRIDAY, AUGUST 19, 2016

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Picture retakes are on September 8th.

If you are interested in this year’s GHS Boys Soccer apparel, you can purchase items at our webstore at http://tsprintingplus.tuosystems.com/stores/gbs16.  There are many options to choose from.  The webstore will close Sunday night at midnight.  Thank you very much for your support of our boys soccer program!

It’s Spell Bowl season!  Any student interested in joining the GHS Spell Bowl team please contact Lisa Caskey by email (lmcaskey@staff.goshenschools.org) or in person in room 3130.  All are welcome to join!

Another great way to support GHS Boys Soccer is to simply eat out.  Take your friends or family out to eat at Culver’s in Goshen and help support boys soccer on Monday.

The class with the most students dressed according to the football theme TODAY during 7th period will earn free food (pizza or doughnuts) from Student Council!

Super Mileage Club will have a call out meeting on Tuesday, August 23rd at 3:40 p.m. in room 8010.  All interested students need to attend this meeting.

Are you interested in a career in Law?  Have you ever wondered how our court system works?  Bashor is looking for teens to serve on Teen Court.  Youth volunteers may serve as a Bailiff, Clerk, Defense or Prosecuting Attorney.  Teen Court meets on Tuesday evenings and dinner is provided.  See the guidance office or contact Bashor at www.Bashor.org for more information.

Students, if you are driving to school you must get a parking tag.  Officer Johnson will start checking vehicles next week.  Bring your license, current registration, current insurance and $5 to Mrs. Haney, the bookkeeper.  Again, you must get a new parking tag every year!

REMINDER: You can buy the 2016-2017 yearbook online at www.herffjones.com for $45, but the price will increase September 5th.  Get yours today!

The Ultimate Frisbee Club meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. on the administration field.  If you’re interested in learning how to play the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, you can pick up your required paperwork from Mr. Snyder in the choir office, Mr. Brubaker, Lucas Kauffman, or Mrs. Stealy in the main office.  The paperwork should be turned in to Lucas Kauffman the first time you attend.

 

MEETINGS DURING SRT:

Juniors:  You will meet in the auditorium on Tuesday during the 1st session of SRT for a drug education session.  You will report to your SRT first for attendance.

Sophomores:  You will meet in the auditorium on Tuesday during the 2nd session of SRT for a drug education session.  You will report to your SRT first for attendance.

There will be a Key Club call out meeting on Tuesday during the 2nd session of SRT in the cafeteria.  If you are thinking about joining Key Club or would like to know more, plan to attend.  Students cannot be “signed out” for club or team meetings during SRT, so you will need to report to the meeting when the bell rings and attendance will be taken there.

Student Council will meet on Thursday during the 2nd session of SRT in the auditorium.

The German Club will meet on Tuesday, August 30th during the 2nd session of SRT in Whiteman.

The first regular Key Club meeting will be on Thursday, September 1st in the cafeteria during the 2nd session of SRT.  This meeting is for current and new Key Club members.

 

SPORTS SCORES:

The girls varsity volleyball team defeated Westview 3-0.

The girls JV volleyball team lost to Westview 0-2.

The boys tennis team lost 2-3 to Bethany with both doubles matches losing in three sets.  The JV won 5-4, clinching it with a tiebreaker win from Anton Pham and Josh Haimes.  Hugh Birky and Simon Myers scored singles points for the varsity, while Wes Beck, Mitchell Yoder, Nathanael Wertz, Ben Bontrager-Singer and Austin Peeler contributed to the JV win.

The first game of the 2016 GHS girls soccer team season was a tale of two halves.  After falling behind by two goals in the first half, the Goshen girls had a strong second half defeating Elkhart Central 4-2.  Forward Aylissa Trosper started off her senior year with a hat trick to lead the Lady Redhawks comeback.  Aniya Hartzler and Noelia Calderon assisted on two of the goals.  The JV team defeated Elkhart Central 4-1.  Evelyn Santos, Joana Regalado, America Esparza and Mia Mayorga scored for Goshen.

 

IN SPORTS ACTION TODAY:

The boys varsity football team will host Fairfield tonight at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday:

The boys/girls JV and varsity cross country teams will compete in the ECA Hokem Karem at 9:00 a.m.

The boys varsity tennis team will host the Goshen Round Robin at 9:30 a.m.

The girls varsity volleyball team will play in the LaPorte Invitational at 10:00 a.m.

The boys JV and varsity soccer teams will host West Noble.  JV plays at 5:00 p.m., followed by varsity at 6:45 p.m.
