Academics

Academics are at the heart of everything we do at Goshen High School. We firmly believe that every child, given time and support, can and will learn.

We are a diverse school, and our students have diverse needs. In the past five years, Goshen High School has had more National Merit Scholars and more ENL (English as a New Language) students than any other high school in Elkhart County.

To meet the needs of all of our students, Goshen High School provides a variety of special programs and opportunities, including:

  • Student Resource Time: Provides each student with a four-year relationship with one teacher who helps monitor individual progress and needs.

  • Resource Rooms: Provides qualified teachers and tutors to give extra help, when needed, to each student in four 45-minute sessions each week.

  • Alternative Schools: Merit Learning Center and Opportunity Knocks provide alternative school settings for students who may not be successful in traditional high school classrooms.

  • Cooperative Education: As global competition and technological change continues to impact business requirements, the workplace is being constantly transformed and worker skills continually redefined. Students at Goshen Community Schools are given an opportunity to better equip themselves for their careers and to make themselves more workplace ready by participating in Cooperative Education.
  • School to Work Program: Provides career training through Mentorships, Internships, and access to Elkhart Area Career Center.
  • Honors Program: Provides opportunities for college credit, Advanced Placement Exam preparation, and outstanding college preparatory coursework.

  • English as a New Language: Provides English language learners standards-based instruction in many content areas until they can be successful in the general education classroom.

  • Special Education: Provides the appropriate opportunities and accommodations as recommended in students’ Individual Education Plans.

  • Freshman Academy: Provides extra support for 150 incoming freshmen.

District programs include Gifted & Talented, ENL and more.
